Stinky scent , with a chemistry set I got for Christmas. It got put on a high shelf and I could only have it back when I agreed to follow the booklet. A cousin who was an industrial chemist had sneaked me the iron fillings and I think copper sulphate crystals.
I remember at school in our art class, we were given rectangular blocks of salt to carve. This was in Junior school, and I have no idea what I eventually made, but do remember that I enjoyed it.
Auntieflo in the girl guides I remember soap carving competitions. Ok if you had a creamy soap but a nightmare with cheap stuff which all turned to dust.
When Mum made pastry she gave me the leftover bits. I decided I would make my Dad a jam tart with a special surprise for him. Unbeknown to Mum, before I put the lid on this special tart I put in a little red plastic figure I’d got from a cereal packet. All the tarts went in the oven to bake and when she took them out she was mystified by this bright red gloopy mess on the tray. How I cried that my special gift had been ruined. I was too little to know that plastic would melt in a hot oven.
I used to go to an art class where we had clay and other materials as well as paint. I had some kind of obsession with cannibals and tribes which made shrunken heads - not sure where I found out about them. I made a shrunken head from clay, painted and decorated it with stuck on hair! The art teacher didn’t react in any way and I must have grown out of this strange phase.
