As some if you know I have terminal cancer. I want t go abroad for a holiday. I have my oncologist approval. Travel insurance though ….. a lot of companies will not insure me because I took part in a non invasive trial recently. No Follow up procedures, no medication. I did it mainly to help future patients as it can’t save me.

Smileless2012 Tue 26-Jul-22 15:41:17

No it isn't fair Lucca. Were you advised before agreeing to this trial that if you wanted to go abroad you may have problems getting insurance? If you weren't, that isn't fair either.

You've done a wonderful selfless act and now seem to be being discriminated against because of it.

I hope you can find some cover that's affordable and can have your well deserved holiday abroad flowers.

Very unfair!

Have you had a look at the Marie Curie site? It says some companies do provide cover for people with terminal illness

I did not realize your diagnosis was terminal Lucca. Im so sorry to read that.

Im sorry insurance is being unreasonable.

Lucca Tue 26-Jul-22 15:51:20

It’s not the terminal illness thing that’s stopping
me it’s that damned trial !

I’ll pay anything to be honest just to get at least one more trip abroad !

Zonne Tue 26-Jul-22 16:07:55

Have you tried the British Insurance Brokers Association, who should be able to steer you towards specialist brokers?

Oh flipping hell Lucca no, of course it’s not fair, I really hope you get somewhere with the biba site, fingers crossed.

Luckygirl3 Tue 26-Jul-22 16:46:12

Very unfair indeed. I am glad others have found helpful links. I am sorry to hear the prognosis. You need to get that holiday!

Galaxy Tue 26-Jul-22 16:48:33

No it's not bloody fair. I hope some of the links are helpful.

FannyCornforth Tue 26-Jul-22 16:48:42

That is totally bloody awful Lucca.
I really, really hope that you manage to go on your well deserved trip very soon thanks ? ✈️

NotSpaghetti Tue 26-Jul-22 16:48:55

I do hope you find an insurer and get to have uour holiday.

FannyCornforth Tue 26-Jul-22 16:49:42

And you did such a wonderful thing taking part in the trial

Namsnanny Tue 26-Jul-22 16:51:12

Very unfair. flowers

I hope the links posted offer you something.

Where were you thinking of going?

winterwhite Tue 26-Jul-22 16:56:28

What a terrible thing.

How do they think the trial is relevant, Lucca? Do they classify it as an ongoing procedure?

Honestly don’t know! It was a non invasive procedure too.

I’m currently dealing with a broker who is moving heaven and earth to get me sorted. It does seem unfair, it kind of means nobody can do a trial which might prolong their life if then Their life is restricted.
I know I could holiday in the UK but I really am desperate to go abroad and see somewhere different.
We were planning a cruise Dubrovnik to split on a very small ship. Just for a flipping week !

growstuff Tue 26-Jul-22 17:51:09

That's disgraceful Lucca and I hope you find somebody to insure you.

I'm going to follow this thread because I've agreed to take part in a cancer trial too - and I'm going to ask loads of questions beforehand.

growstuff Tue 26-Jul-22 17:52:27

PS. Have you asked Macmillan? I think I was given something about travel insurance in all the stuff I was given.

cornergran Tue 26-Jul-22 17:57:13

I’m furious on your behalf lucca. Very unfair. Can only hope there is one insurer with some common sense.

Auntieflo Tue 26-Jul-22 17:59:10

Oh Lucca, how I sympathise with you. I am in the same boat as it were, and as soon as you tick the terminal prognosis box, everything grinds to a halt. My cancer is stable and being controlled with chemo tablets.

We just want a short UK break, but you can bet your bottom dollar, Covid could raise it's ugly head. Can you get cover just for Covid? not as far as I can make out. So, like you, I am still looking, and I expect the cost would be as much as the holiday.

Best of luck, and if you find something, would you give a heads up on here please?

Beautful Tue 26-Jul-22 17:59:43

Just googled ... this may help or not ... sorry to hear about your cancer, bless you ... also you are a star in doing this to help others thank you ... God bless

Grandmadinosaur Tue 26-Jul-22 18:00:01

No it is most certainly not fair. I really hope you get on your cruise to Dubrovnik area.

JaneJudge Tue 26-Jul-22 18:04:33

sad this is ridiculous

crazyH Tue 26-Jul-22 18:08:44

How awful for you Lucca
I really can’t understand it. It’s not the terminal diagnosis that’s in your way, but the fact that you are on a ‘trial’ which could save lives.
As has been suggested, please get in touch with MacMillan.
All the best flowers

SueDonim Tue 26-Jul-22 18:08:49

I’m so sorry about your diagnosis, Lucca. flowers

That’s very unfair indeed. I recently declined to take part in a Covid trial t the last minute because I was warned it could affect travel abroad. It’s rotten that anyone who wants to do a good thing is penalised for it.

I hope you can find an insurer somewhere. Xx

Grammaretto Tue 26-Jul-22 18:10:46

When DH had stage 4 cancer we were given a list of insurers at The Maggie's centre.
www.maggies.org/
We couldn't go in the end due to covid (ironic) but we enjoyed a few days at a Landmark Trust cottage by the sea which we really loved. www.landmarktrust.org.uk/

I hope you have the holiday you want and yes I do think it very unfair. Can you go without insurance? or is that reckless?
