Good Morning Thursday 28th July 2022
(43 Posts)Good morning from an overcast E Kent. The skies seem to clear in the early afternoon.
We had a wonderfully fun evening, including the turkey. Two more guests were added to the list - Philip’s girlfriend and another of DS’s school friends. We had furniture to shift, then we played a sort of musical chairs, only using party poppers. It was hilarious. Dinner was fun, complete with crackers. Three of the favours were dice and a tape measure. Someone suggested we should toss the dice along the dining room table and use the tape to measure the furthest one. The closest to the edge would win. You can imagine the laughter.
Today will be quieter. DS and I are starting to clear our the garage of Philip’s stuff/books that we brought home, little thinking we’d have to go through it all so soon.
Hope everyone has a pleasant day and the only surprises are pleasant ones. Carpe diem ??????
An early good morning from Northampton where, like Brackley, it is dry and cloudy. It actually tried to rain yesterday, and I rushed to get the washing in, but it lasted all of five minutes.
Up early this morning as I am off to London on the train (hopefully) with DS and his partner. He is getting a long service award, and the powers that be have organised a presentation ceremony followed by a buffet. (Not just for him - he is one among many who joined at around the same time!) Looking forward to a nice day out.
Wishing a good day to all.
Good morning Michael and all GNs. It’s going to be a cloudy penultimate day in Northumberland, but I don’t mind that. I had a quiet day yesterday and feel better for it. DD and her menfolk are doing a rib boat trip today, and I’m going bird watching. We’re out to dinner this evening then packing to go home tomorrow. It’s been good and we’ve been lucky with the weather.
Have the best day you can folks.
Good morning from Wincanton where I have yet to look out of the hotel window but guess it is cloudy but dry and mild.
Up early as we are going to an air station open day and DS needs to be there by 8am.
He met us here last night for a lovely dinner as we had brought his gf with us and he is driving today.
Must get up and try to fill the tiny kettle from the bathroom tap....as you do in hotel rooms.
Love to all ? x
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. OH and I are having a special Afternoon Tea in Oxford this afternoon. Our daughter gave OH a voucher for his 70th earlier this year and we’re finally using it. It is my home group this evening and we’re unaccountably moving back to Zoom having met in each other’s homes the last few weeks. Your turkey dinner sounds good GM. I have done something similar when I have been in Sydney - Christmas in July up in the Blue Mountains.
No Matt.
Good morning everyone from south Manchester. We had torrential rain last night and it’s still, cool and damp now. We are minding the Boy Wonder and L’il Miss for a couple of hours mid morning whilst mum goes to get her highlight done. Feet up this afternoon then we will take them to their swimming lessons. Not our job next Thursday as we shall be in Malaga, yay!
grandMattie it sounds as though your turkey dinner went much better than you feared with a lot of fun and laughter to boost you. That said you now have a tough task to attend to today and I feel for you dear lady. x
No commuters on either platform - are the trains not running today either on the Northern line?
Morning Mick, morning All. Light cloud over our corner of Somerset. Would welcome some sunshine now.
Managed a bit of catching up yesterday and enjoyed lunch out. Grocery delivery, ironing and some garden tidying today. Perhaps the garden centre this afternoon.
Hope Thursday is kind to us all.
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry and bright and no rain in the forecast
Congrats to your DS Bluesapphire on his long service award
Today we’re looking after DGD until mid afternoon and then home for a bit of a rest!
Hope everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care all whatever the day brings ?
Good morning all from an overcast Black country.
Shopping today and perhaps some ironing.
Will watch the opening ceremony of the commonwealth games this evening. We are less than 2 miles from the main stadium, its chaos with all the road diversions.
grandMattie it sounds like your meal went well.
Enjoy your Thursday everyone and may you all find some ?.
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and low clouds. I'm not sure what the forecast is. Grandmattie that sounds like a successful Christmas dinner! Strength to you for today's task. Brook enjoy your grandparent duties!
Yesterday I visited mum and she was hard work. She's very deaf and has hearing aids but refuses to wear them, so you have to shout. She was in a negative frame of mind yesterday. I went from there to a friend's house for coffee and that was nice. She always manages to soothe my irritation. She's known me a long time!
Today I'm looking after both boys for a couple of hours. A friend is bringing me a jar of lemon curd and I'm giving him a jar of gooseberry jam in return. He's not staying though as he doesn't like small children. No doubt this afternoon I'll do some Spanish. Have a good day all.
Good Morning Mick and everyone from a rather damp Hull.
grandMattie it was so good to hear about the fun you all had yesterday. Things generally turn out better than expected ?
Congratulations to your DS Bluesapphire as old as they are we never stop being proud of our children.
Today we have DGS for the day. Picking him up from his Mum at 9-15. Not sure what to do. We were going to the coast but might save that for a better day. I think we’ll take him to a large park later with his scooter.
We had DGD for a couple of hours yesterday and before she left she told me I smelt lovely. They are such joys ?
Have a good day and thoughts to those who aren’t feeling so well ??
Morning all
I have no chance of catching up with all your July news.
My July has been busy and very enjoyable, lots of socialising with friends and family which after the last two years I really appreciated. We are meeting up with friends for lunch later today, so I have designated myself a lazy morning (after yesterdays lazy evening ) I am learning Urmstongran #lazygran ???
We were very proud parents on my actual birthday evening as we went to A Summer Ball in The Officers Mess with eldest son and his wife, the serving Officers from all three services and from all over Europe (yes we still do-operate and work together despite Brexit) looked so handsome in their dress uniforms, and us civilians scrubbed up pretty nicely.
We have also evaluated our Cruise experience, whilst we had fun with our long standing friends, and despite the luxury of our suite and exclusive restaurants (I know I was spoilt, and I do appreciate it) on the whole a smaller ship might have suited us better, we will look at a river cruise in a few years, maybe the Duro from Oporto, Portugal.
In a mad moment I booked a Holiday Lodge for DD, The Imp, the 7 yr old ad myself for 5 days in August, it’s right by the beach, with lots of facilities (swimming pool, playground, entertainment etc) I feel that I might need a holiday afterwards ????
Wishing you all an enjoyable day, and sending (((hugs))) to those in need
Keep safe and well folks ?♀️?
Good morning from a dull Black Country.
Had a lovely few hours yesterday at Mums with Brother and SIL, lunch then a walk along the canal.
Today is my every other Thursday walking group. Another canal walk, then lunch at a lovely little pub that do the most marvellous beef and cheese cobs for £2.50, with side salad. I imagine that price has risen lately though.
Then this afternoon meeting a friend in the park as she has her 3 year old granddaughter with her at the moment.
I can imagine the chaos near your Monk roads around Dudley, Sedgley and Baggeridge Country Park are going to be closed here Thursday next week.
Sounds like a fun day grandMattie. It's always good to have some brightness in sad times.
Hoping you all find some brightness today.
Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, it's 8°C.
GM, its sounds as if you have a great time.
Slept poorly last night, mulling over the results of my procedure and the report I was given.
NB: Do not use Google to find the meaning of medical terms, you do not understand!
Apprehensive about having a dicussion with the surgery receptionist yesterday, much to my surprise, she said, No need to explain, I will ask your GP to call you. That she did, thirty minutes later.
I had a long chat with her, she was so supportive and advised me to come right away, to pick up some new prescriptions, including something to ease the folliculitis in my scalp (those bl**dy biologics again), to get me by, until the results are back.
Unfortunately, I could not contact the RA specialist nurse, about an alternative biologic, apparently, they have been swamped by patients calling for advice. That may be because the RA appointments keep being cancelled. My one for May was cancelled twice, its now November!
DD is taking me to a garden centre today for a wander. Kalu recommended it, but I've never managed to get there. I will need to leave my credit card at home, I fear I may be carried away!
I think she wants to soften the blow that, despite the fact they are getting the keys to their new home today, they have no plans to move out quite yet. They have been spoiled here, its my own fault!
I want to scream and scream and scream!!! ?????????
Pitt and Bluesapphire, enjoy your days with your boys!
Wishing you all the best of days.
Good morning all from a cloudy North Leicestershire. We had some rain yesterday but could do with more.
Ironing, an M&S shop and a Sainsbury's delivery today. I know how to live.
Good morning all and it’s a bit overcast and blustery here at the seaside.
Thankyou everyone who advised me to finish the course of Doxycycline. I had made up my mind to do so, but it’s really upset my system with stomache cramps and pain and diarrhoea. I will phone the doc today and ask for something else.
Last evening was my book club here. We met at a local pub, only 4 of us, but it was nice to see them as I haven’t been for about 9 months.
Today the glazier is coming to replace the kitchen door window at last. It’s been boarded up for over a month now.
We have shopping to do but I don’t like to be too far from home ☹️. I’ll see how I feel tomorrow!
Glad your ‘Christmas ‘ celebrations went well GM and keep strong today.
Take care all ?
Good morning all from N Bucks - cloudy and cooler but still dry. The shower we had yesterday evening has had little impact if any on the beige carpets around the village formerly known as grass.
Has a surprise invitation over to Norfolk next week where D2, SIL and GS are spending a couple of weeks escaping their builders in London before they go to France. At first I thought it would be out of the question as Rosie’s kennels was fully booked for August but they’ve had a cancellation so I’m off for a few days! (The reason I don’t take her is that their bungalow is in the grounds of a lovely old vicarage but not securely fenced and I worry that if she saw one of the many rabbits around, she’d be off over the horizon and the Norwich road runs straight past the drive entrance. Sad to leave her, but always a risk with a sight hound ?)
Can’t think of any definite plans for today, but hope everybody else’s go well and wish you all a pleasant day.
Good morning Mick and all.
The ‘Christmas’ get together sounds like a lot of fun, Grandmattie. I love the idea of playing a game with the cracker contents.
I’m glad you have someone with you as you sort Philip’s things.
We’re planning a trip out to the local woods followed by lunch at a garden centre today.
Have a good day, whatever your plans.
Good morning all. I’m running a bit late this morning so will read all the chat later.
Cakes to make this morning and some admin for WI .
This afternoon our sewing group are off to enjoy an afternoon tea. No sewing today.
Hope all have a good day.
Good morning all from a damp East Yorkshire.
We didn’t get to look at the lodge yesterday which was disappointing. DH rang them to ask if we could put the agreed time back by half an hour to which they replied they were about to contact us to rearrange as they didn’t have any transport. Sounds odd but anyway we are going next week.
Today the highlight of my day is a dental appointment for a filling.
Good to hear of the fun you had at Christmas dinner GM
Hope your journey to London goes smoothly today bluesapphire a proud mum I’m sure.
Take care everyone.
U3A book group here this morning, always enjoyable, and some unavoidable admin this afternoon but that’s all today. Must start putting some social activity in place I think. The world won’t come to me, after all.
Sorry life continues to be so trying, Marydoll, although the domestic irritations at least provide something else to worry about. Hope we all have a good enough day.
Morning all from overcast, dry S Hants.
Sounds like fun gMattie laughter is good for the soul. Nice to see you GG13 you’ve been busy, lots of catching up and a posh ‘do’.
Chuffed Mum BlueSapphire sounds wonderful.
I’m on the voluntary phones today and having a new window fitted in our bedroom with sensible, outward opening. Our hot water was cold this morning, MrJ sorted it, I’ll be having a word on Monday when the boiler is being serviced.
Enjoy your day all with the odd ?to brighten.
Good morning everyone from Wiltshire, just back from DDog walk, she had a good run around with her friend Hector, they’re a crazy pair!
Today I need to clean my car out, it’s still sandy from our holiday weeks ago (DH said he’d do it……6 weeks ago ?), then get things together for my Art residential course next week. I honestly can’t wait to have a 4 nights away in a hotel with no housework, cooking, shopping etc. peace & quiet, bliss ?
Morning from cloudy S Lanarkshire. So glad your meal and gathering turned out happily grandMattie Another hurdle cleared.
Coffee with a friend this morning in one of the many nice coffee shops we have in this wee town, also a cheese scone probably, we are creatures of habit!
Later on I’m going in to stay overnight with East Ren DD as she is taking me to my appointment for laser surgery on my second eye tomorrow morning. I am looking forward to an improvement in my sight, especially my reading ability. The first one last year made a huge difference.
On the way I’m calling in to a friend who is going to ‘ pin up’ the hem if a very nice dress I got in a charity shop. It’s a ‘Sunday best’ frock so church will get a treat ? if the sun shines?!
Wishing everyone the best day possible ???
