Beach ready bodies

I see there's a campaign in Spain to get rid of this nonsensical idea.

When did it begin anyhow? I'm sure years ago people didn't have access to fake tans, body buffers etc

Did girls at boarding school shave their legs or have their bikini lines waxed before going swimming.

Did tired mothers with no labour saving devices have time to worry about cellulite?

I would love to see a new generation of women feeling comfortable hitting the beach on the spur of the moment no matter what they look like. I'm sure many do, but many more feel intimidated and uncomfortable.

There is a cure: don't go on typical beach holidays. I've never understood the attraction of lying on a beach scantily clad and faffing around with potions and lotions to avoid sunburn even though you're inviting it by being scantily clad. Mad.

I can't see anything wrong with wanting to make the best of yourself. If the prospect of lying around with little on spurs someone to drop a few pounds then surely it must be a good thing?

I'd like to see swimming cozzies with a shorts type bottom half take off.
I have a cozzie like this and it's a game changer. No more worrying about bikini lines showing or whether it's riding up your bum
I just put it on and swim. Its great.

Hi I would like a cozzie like that where did you buy it please? smile

Yes, I much prefer the notion that to have a beach ready body, you just need a body and a beach, then you're good to go. Having said that lying on a beach doesn't appeal, but swimming in the sea does.

That type of cozzie is a tankini *lindiann’ readily available everywhere. You just buy the bottoms and tops separately.

Calypsa make lovely swimming sets for those of us that don’t want to be scantily clad but still enjoy the sea and sand.

My body is beach ready, I look like a whale.

Bring back bathing machines and ankle length bathing costumes!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 28-Jul-22 10:00:30

I regard getting beach ready as a little self care after the winter months.

BigBertha1 Thu 28-Jul-22 10:13:54

I don't understand this as one sees all shapes and sizes on the beach and it doesn't seem to bother anyone.

The first time I visited the Soviet Union, around 1974, a trip to Yalta was part of the package.

For a couple of roubles, you could buy from a beach stall a bikini to fit any sized body, the theory being that anyone who wanted fresh air and sun on their bodies was entitled to do so.

My first and only bikini but I did like the freedom.

I think they're called Slazenger Boyleg women's swimsuit.
They're great. You can get other makes that have a nore supportive top.
Women just want to be able to swim without worrying about stray hairs showing or bums hanging out etc
I've often thought it's the skimpy revealing style of most women's swimsuits that put a lot of women off swimming
And its all done for the male gaze.

Hahahaha, and an endangered species, to boot!

Granmarderby10 Thu 28-Jul-22 11:08:21

I got one from a charity shop it was Slazenger in pristine condition, in my size, cheap as chips so had to have it.
Looks a bit 1920/30s but might find a flowery swim cap (a modern one that doesn’t pinch ? your hair) to complete the look?

Granmarderby10 Thu 28-Jul-22 11:21:16

Well what about the female gaze? snowberryZ I’ve been gazing at mens unready for anything bodies in swim clobber for years now (at pool settings ) more in sheer disbelief than admiration, but do they care? … Nope! Do they run home and vow to modify their shape? …Nope!
Then nor should we females.
Incidentally socks with sandals is fine too.. and much nicer than bleeding feet (imo)

Aveline Thu 28-Jul-22 11:36:42

I used to go to a women only night at our local swimming pool. My female gaze was sometimes frankly stunned!! Ladies appeared that I'd bet would never ever cavort on a beach. It was actually interesting to see the enormous variety of female body shapes. They were nice relaxed sessions. I don't know if they still go on. In these gender fluid days I suspect that the Muslim ladies who used to go would no longer attend in case there was a transwomen there.

Philippa111 Thu 28-Jul-22 11:44:23

My body is always 'beach ready' as it is for any other activity.
Is a bit of hair or a bum offensive?... no it's part of every human body!
Why should I hide (parts of) my body in shame? I have a voluptuous body and if people don't want to look at me they can make that choice.

I wonder how many men agonise over being 'beach ready'.

Granmarderby10 Thu 28-Jul-22 11:48:11

Phillip111 Exactly they are more likely to agonise over the proximity of the pub to said beach?

Baggs Thu 28-Jul-22 11:52:34

"Boyleg" swimsuits are different from tankinis which consist of two parts.

DD2 used to do high board diving and she always wore a boyleg one piece swimsuit.

Baggs Thu 28-Jul-22 11:52:44

Try sports shops.

This made me laugh GrandmaDerby !
I have been known to feel obliged to have another close look at David Beckham’s Rolex in that pic myself!
