I wondered if the Elizabeth Line had acquired a new spur to Oxford! ??

Good morning Mick and all from a wet northwest coast and a pile of washing to deal with…
Quiet day today after a busy one yesterday. Before the practice with the band, I gadded about to the bank to put my online banking on to my IPad etc and took in a nice exhibition in our local gallery before a tasty Hawaiian panini.
I was a ‘Twerly” for the bus by three minutes (I drive but sometimes enjoy the change) but the miserable sod wouldn’t accept my card, so paid. I happened to have him on the return journey and saw him being difficult with another passenger. He then put some speed on, driving down our quiet roads like a racing driver. One passenger’s bag crashed to the floor with her shopping everywhere.
As I alighted, I turned and said in a loud voice “NO SPEEDING!” Which gave me a lot of pleasure.?
Have a good day, will read through later and thoughts to those with troubles.

Nannagarra Sat 30-Jul-22 10:31:39

It’s raining in this part of the north west as I bid you good morning.
I recall similar weather when we visited Cragside; the rain seemed to underline the significance of the site. We were really impressed and will definitely return.
Bread making and a trip to the greengrocer’s will occupy me today. Whatever you intend to do, have the best time possible.

Good morning all from damp Harrogate. Am hoping to make it to the carnival parade this morning- must pull my socks up! Been watching the marathon in Birmingham, wishing I could run!!
Baubles good luck with your scan.
Haven’t been able to persuade my gardener (DH) to grow anything edible. But there were alpine strawberries ? in this garden and our last garden. Our last garden had a magnificent Bramley Apple tree which I sorely miss.
Hope to read the posts later to - earlier if I don’t get to the carnival!
Have the best day possible folks

Good morning Mick and all. It’s dull and raining in my corner of Lancashire, currently 17°C.

Mr.B and I had a lovely day birdwatching. I haven’t been out for a couple of weeks other than to collect my prescription and it was wonderful to get some fresh air. We saw avocets which were rare this far north but are now breeding here. Perhaps another effect of climate change. We enjoyed fish and chips, a rare treat. The journey home was long and tedious due to holiday traffic due to an incident on the motorway that had a knock on effect on the country roads. We were quite late home and I’m sitting up in bed enjoying a mug of tea right now.

Sounds like an enjoyable but tiring day Marydoll, I hope you will have a good rest today.

Have the best day you can everyone ???

Good morning from a cloudy W Kent. Nothing that has to be done today but small shop required and hopefully an afternoon in the garden.
Best wishes to all

harrigran Sat 30-Jul-22 09:40:58

Good morning from a rainy NE, garden looks nice and fresh.
Had a quiet day yesterday, gentle housework and treating some scratches on furniture due I think to increased traffic in my living room.
Sister and BIL visiting this afternoon and also DS and family. DIL says that GDs are going to make Lasagne and bring it with them, I don't have to cook today.
Love Cragside house Greyduster, there is so much to see and the gardens are wonderful especially at Rhododendron time.
Talking of fruit and jam, when I was shopping on Wednesday they were selling strawberries ? for 27 pence because they were eat by that day. There was in excess of 500g in each punnet, thrilled to find no wastage at all.
Have a good weekend.

Grey morning but no rain in the forecast, sadly. Am only watering the pots - everything else has to survive if it can. Nothing planned for today but something or someone will crop up, I am sure.

Marvellous description of a day well spent, Marydoll, though glad you avoided arrest. I live in fear of inadvertently not scanning items so I felt for you!

Good morning all from showery East Yorkshire. Slept in I should have got up at 6.45 when going to the bathroom grrrr.

Talking of plums my dad wasn’t too happy when his gardener had cut down some of his when trimming some hedge. I meanwhile have picked a lot of very large blackberries from our garden this week. Had some with ice cream and on muesli. Delicious.

Our plans will revolve around football this afternoon. How is it back so soon ?

Take care everyone.

Good morning everyone from another sunny morning in the Algarve. I’m with Maw on this, sun and the problems it brings, everyday for weeks on end does get monotonous. In our case it’s combined with temperatures that this week are again set to be 30°C plus. I wish I could share it around a bit. I too will be complaining if we get more than three days of rain in a row ever again.

So far I’ve only skimmed the first two pages so will catch up when I can later.

A wave ? to Anniebach, whose post is just above mine at the moment.

Grandmabatty Sat 30-Jul-22 09:28:23

Grandmattie your plums look delicious. Stewed plums with a hint of spice and made into a crumble. Yum. Dgs1 has relented from endless train playing and is lying on me as he "wants a wee bit of peace" ??

baubles Sat 30-Jul-22 09:26:59

Pleased to hear that your eye surgery went well Stilllearning.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Good morning from Durham. Raining again - two mornings in a row now.
No plans - but have busy weekdays, so will catch up on housework and admin.
Love Cragside - the first house in the World to be lit by hydro electric power and to employ hydraulics. By the way, Newcastle was the first in the World to have electric street lights.

Off in a tangent, sorry. Hope everyone has a good weekend whatever you get up to.

BlueSapphire Sat 30-Jul-22 08:36:30

Good morning everyone from an overcast Northampton, sitting here with a large mug of tea in front of me. Expecting a visit from a man coming to clean my stone sundial and little cat statue this morning.

Rushed out to the shops yesterday to return an order to M&S, and also some tops to Sainsburys, also picked up my laundered duvet. Then home to await the arrival of the plumber, due at 5pm - he arrived at 6.30. But never mind, he got the job done, but will need to come back on Monday with sealant (and his bill!).

Lazy morning with the papers, then out to pick up an order at M&S after lunch. Steak dinner tonight.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone.

grandMattie Sat 30-Jul-22 08:34:49

Re. plums - I used to make jam for DH. I don’t eat many preserves though I make 100’s of pots of jam, marmalade, piccalilli and chutney. DS doesn’t like plums. So I shall probably freeze them and take them out to stew in the dark winter months.

Marydoll Sat 30-Jul-22 08:33:53

Baubles good luck with the appointment.
Stilllearning, I was wondering about your eye surgery, delighted to hear it went well.

baubles Sat 30-Jul-22 08:27:28

Good morning Mick, morning all from drizzly South Lanarkshire.

We have DD’s girls with us, we picked them up yesterday and DH will take them home after he drops me off at the hospital as I have an MRI appointment late afternoon. They have been such good company, they really are delightful children.
I’m sure I’ll collapse on the sofa when I get home though, they can talk for Scotland.

Have the best day possible everyone.

ShazzaKanazza Sat 30-Jul-22 08:22:11

Good Morning Mick and everyone from a damp Hull.

Greyduster Cragside House and gardens look glorious. So pleased you had an amazing holiday.

GrandMattie whenever we are at my sisters in Canterbury I usually pick her little plums from her tree and she makes lovely jam. Her dog sits under catching any I drop.

Ladyleftfieldlover have a great time in London.

Chilling this morning then picking up our friends at 12-30 to drive to Filey to our other friends caravan. Her DH is doing a bbq. It’s her birthday so it should be an lovely afternoon I think it’s going to be showery though. I’m sure they have a large awning so we’ll be dry though cosy.

Enjoy your day everyone especially our friends with grandchildren visiting. Virtual hugs to those who are feeling weighed down with stress and worries??
my sunflowers this year are the deep red ones with orange tips on the petals and don’t look great on a photo I did try to take one to show you. ?

Stilllearning Sat 30-Jul-22 08:21:53

Morning from S Lanarkshire, still very cloudy and breezy, the wind has been a real feature for weeks now. My town is high up at the top of the Clyde valley and our height has made a difference to our weather this ‘summer’.

Laser eye treatment went well yesterday and has made an immediate difference to my vision. A stronger prescription for my glasses should help further but the doctor reminded me gently that nothing can be done about the macular degeneration. I try not to think about that.

I helped out yesterday in my 7 year old DGS’s imaginary pizza restaurant and I was on the phones. He asked me to check whether the caller was vegetarian, vegan or pregnant??
If so no cheese allowed! Other than his rather authoritarian approach it did make me wonder if vegan cheese is in fact okay in pregnancy?

Greyduster, your holiday sounds great fun, it is an adjustment going home to an empty house after a holiday one of the hardest things I think?

Have the best day possible everyone ???

Urmstongran Sat 30-Jul-22 08:18:44

No Matt.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dull and cool.

We are going over to my stepfather’s this afternoon to spend a couple of hours with him. Likely as not we will all have a wee dram together!

He’s asked us to bring some heavy items (huge box soap powder, fabric softener etc) from Sainsbury’s that will keep him stocked up until we return from Spain in mid-September.
