Good Morning Thursday 4 August
(59 Posts)Just popping in to open up lovely peeps….will return later with ?for celebrations etc
Hi Galz! I'm still awake and just wondering what people are doing? My first post and very curious for a response!
Good morning from a bright and breezy South Yorkshire.
Just finished my Pilates class, so feel suitably stretched, and off for a shower shortly, but thought I’d post first before the morning is gone.
A bit of pottering in the garden planned today - just a bit of deadheading to do. The side hedge needs a trim, but I’ll leave that until the weekend, I think, when it might be less breezy.
Hope they get to the bottom of your weight loss, Harrigran and that it doesn’t prove to be anything serious.
Well done on your lottery win Pantglas2 - enjoy your ??. Shame it didn’t have a few more noughts on the end, but you never know, this could be the beginning of a winning streak ??.
Well, I’d better go for my shower now.
Hope you all have a decent day.
Sending a comforting hug to quite a few who are in sick bay.
Good morning from sunny West Sussex.
DH is downstairs removing skirting in preparation for new flooring next week. I forgot to warn the neighbours about the noise ?
I am off to take GD (age 7) to her swimming session. She is doing a week long crash course and loves it. I hope the drive over is better than the drive back was yesterday. It was horrendously busy and slow and very hot in my ancient car with no AC. I felt for Maw on that 5 hour drive to Norfolk - I had a period of regularly making the journey from the south coast to Norwich and it could be a nightmare, though I think the A14 has been widened since.
Thoughts with DDs of Gingster and Chrissielou.
Sorry to hear of your fall Blossoming - you work so hard on keeping fit and active - hope it doesn’t set you back.
Harrigran, hope you get a speedy referral re your weight loss.
Congratulations on your win Pantglas - don’t spend it all at once ?
Oh Blossoming I can sense your despair, it’s a hiccup, you’ll get back your confidence lady ?
Drinks on you pantglas cheers ?
Blossoming how disappointing for you and painful too. ?
Good morning all from my sunny part of Glasgow where I have arrived at the coo’s tail due to an early FaceTime chat with DD2 this morning.
Washing already out and apart from foutering in the garden, no other plans for today.
Best wishes to all for a good day, especially to those who are troubled and struggling.
Blossoming hope you are by too shaken up by your fall and back feels better soon .Condolences Gwen. I'm still testing positive although they now say chances of being infectious to others after 5days I am trying to stay away from people . It's a beautiful day here so will be sitting in the garden .
I have also had photochromic prescriptions glasses SD and find them less useful for driving and of course the photochromic effect does not take work behind a (tinted-albeit lightly) windscreen. I’m not sure they had the polarising “effect” which is helpful to reduce glare on e.g, wet roads, especially in sunshine. I used to hate them for everyday wear too as going out of bright sunshine and into a shop, pub or restaurant , I found myself temporarily blinded until they readjusted to the light.
But thank you for your response.
I’ll just have to eat up my greens and try to grow a couple of inches.
On the matter of light dazzle from the sun while driving.
I had a similar, yet different, problem years ago when driving to and from work.
I am somewhat taller than average and mostly I did not get direct sun in my eyes, but I got considerable reflected sun from the road surface.
I wear prescription glasses anyway, so I got some prescription photochromic glasses. However, although they worked well if I was outside my car, they did not work when driving, as they relied on direct sunlight. I do not know if the light transitting through the car windscreen reduces the photochromic effect.
The solution for me was to get some clip-on sunglasses, but not the barely tinted ones from some general shops, but some that looked black from an optician shop, but in fact worked very well.
Later I got some prescription sunglasses, tinted a deep brown and ultraviolet protection coated and anti-glare coated and they were wonderful. No glare and colours enhanced, not looking as being tinted brown.
Apparently how they do the brown colour is to soak them in a solution. The longer the soak, the browner the effect.
However, for driving they must not be too dark, so it needs advice from an optometrist.
As you are both shorter than me the photochromic lenses might work for you when driving. I no longer drive.
Good morning Auntyflo and all x
Good morning from an overcast NE.
Had a long chat with the nurse practitioner yesterday, I have been referred to the hospital because I have lost 16 kilos and with other symptoms this is causing concern.
SIL had dinner together and then watched a film on Netflix, Rogue agent with James Norton, we really enjoyed it.
DS working today so I have an empty and don't have to cook for the family.
Blossoming ouch take it easy ?
Well, I’m back! ?? with the reason to celebrate…..
I got 3 numbers on last night’s lottery and won the princely sum of £30 which is why I trotted to Lidl this morning with MrPG who wanted some DIY offers! ? their champers is 13.99 and delishus ? so help yourself jax?
Condolences to Gwen, how sad to lose a family member ? and hope all the ‘DDs’ have a good day, given their trials and tribulations at the moment x
Gosh LLFL you’re brave ? - do show us the hall when it’s finished, I imagine it’ll be stunning!
Hope all on their travels have fun and urms doesn’t forget her ? sweeping duties….
Good morning everyone. It’s sunny in my corner of Lancashire but lots of cloud about and it has been raining. It’s currently 16°C.
I have had a fall this morning and bashed my back against a hard object. I’m feeling a little shaky, also disappointed as I have been doing so well. I will read the thread later.
Have the best day you can everyone ???

Good morning.
I notice that the year number has not appeared in the title for a few days.
Is there a reason for that please?Good morning Star Dreamer, welcome to this gentle thread.
Mick, who starts the thread is on holiday at the moment, so others open up.
As long as the day and date are correct, the year is really not that important for me.
It's a chat thread, and every day is a new day, unlike other threads, which evolve.
Good morning, Marydoll.
Thank you for your welcome.
Thank you for explaining.
I suppose it is my desire for completeness.
The lack of the year number does, however, reduce the accessibility of archives for future social historians.
Yet, the thread is for communication now, archiving is just incidental.
Good morning everyone from cloudy and showery Carlisle where it is currently 14C. I could say the same about the weather Baubles. You aren't that far from me so I expect we're getting the same stuff. Pity we can't blow it south to our drought-ridden friends down there.
I got an emergency appointment at the dentist yesterday morning. It was a good job I didn't suffer any longer in the hopes it would improve as it turned out to be the dreaded dry socket. I hadn't thought it was as there seemed to be a firm clot in the socket and the pain wasn't the horrendous pain I'd had on a previous occasion. My socket was cleaned and dressed and antibiotics prescribed for my worsening infection. I went home to the bliss of a pain-free mouth after days of all that side of it being pained and tingly. It's a little achey this morning and fingers crossed for the next few days.
I'm researching my cruise stops and gradually working up some enthusiasm for getting out of my rut at last. It's looking interesting. I'm going to have to pack for various weathers I think. It's currently hot but could easily change to cool and rainy I suspect. I'm trying to keep my suitcase lighter, it's not easy!
I hope you have a good last day with your DS grandMattie. What a treasure he's being.
And have a pleasant day all.
Not long Chrissielou not long ?
Welcome SunshineSally what a lovely cheery post.
Still waiting with an empty glass pants ?
Chrissielou - love to you and your brave girl . ♥️

Good morning all from Sunnyside northwest coast. I too am zonked MawtheMerrier after driving over 100 miles round trip yesterday to friend’s recital, including a crowd of us going on after it for a bite and socialising. He sent me a message too late to say I could park in the church car park, but I had already parked and set off on a walk to get there.
I sat near the back and couldn’t hear him speak, thought it was my hearing, but others said the same…
I hate low lying sun when driving, it’s downright dangerous! Apparently it was the cause of Prince Philip’s accident when he overturned his car.
Off now to take it for its MOT.
Welcome newcomers and thoughts to anyone with troubles.
Good morning from a bright but grey Durham. I’m very restless, as I’m meeting a Valuer at my rental house this morning. After 14 years, I’ve decided to sell and despite the current tenants being ‘difficult’ I feel like Judas! I might pop to a nearby garden centre afterwards to mull things over.
Have DD2s older (13) dog here - part of a long term plan. I can see he’s starting to struggle, but he’s such a sweetheart and a happy little soul.
Have a good day.
Good morning all from South Lanarkshire where the sun is trying valiantly to shine through the cloud cover. It’s been raining again, I’m so tired of this weather.
I wasted yesterday, lolled about doing nothing and feeling fed up so I’m giving myself a shake today.
My condolences to Gwen
No visit to Edinburgh as DoutL has taken the children to stay with her Mum on the south coast of England for a couple of weeks. I’m hoping they have lots of sunshine for their holiday.
A friend whose Dad is very ill has suggested we go out for coffee this morning so that she can think about something other than that. I hope our outing gives her a little break from her worries.
Have the best day possible everyone.
