Room 101

I m sure this has been done before but hey ho let’s do it again
What’s your Room 101?
I have a great hatred for squeezy bottles of things (tomato sauce/ mayonnaise etc) at the moment I am fighting with the latter it will not drip down but all sits ‘up in the bottom’
So the ‘thing’ is sitting upside down (as it’s made to) but the mayonnaise is sitting in the bottom which is on the top
Get your head round that
So I have to take the top off ( which is at the bottom) try and squeeze the stuff down or keep the top on and bang it or get the knife out to scrape it but then you can’t get in the corners and miss half of it
Grrrrrrr
How about you ?

Narrowboatman you need sunglasses on when Rylan of the very very very black hair smiles
I d like to put TV dramas that have a very important piece of info on a phone or card at a prime point if the murder and you cannot read it It’s so frustrating why they can’t include it in the subtitles I ve no idea Don’t help us poor sighted folk one bit

Oh yes the text messages you can’t read

Lucca Sun 07-Aug-22 14:29:10

I see lots of posters saying “wokery”. Meaning what exactly? Being open to new ideas of being tolerant and kind ?

Yes, mine is very similar to that one... and jolly useful

FannyCornforth, you seem a bit of a volatile person. If I actually knew you I think I would feel as if I needed to be very careful how I worded things to you.

SachaMac Sun 07-Aug-22 15:00:54

I’d put those awful long fake eyelashes that some people seem to think look so good straight in room 101 along with long claw like nails & the awful Blow up doll style fake filled lips shock

Volatile ? FC ? Hardly.

Can you give examples of this volatility on this thread? This seems to be an excessive reaction to a bit of pedantry which was acknowledged, especially as FC has joined in with good grace and hasn't reacted to unkind things said to her.

People calling a room a 'space'

No it's a room

You seem like a lovely, intelligent person to me and I simply can't understand why people feel the need to make unpleasant comments

All those “professionals” and their “hacks”. There seems to be a new one every day popping up to reveal some groundbreaking cleaning method we’ve all been using for decades ?

Agreed, along with all the people who claim to be style experts, who tell people the 5 things that make your home look tacky, everyone is a expert these days.

I'd put the whole RF in room 101 be done with them let them work for a living instead of getting paid millions for doing very little. Lazy entitled th lot of them.

I agree 100%

1. Sport on the news. When I tune into the news l want to see what important things are happening in the world, not the score of some silly football game.

2. Calling holidays in this country a staycation. A staycation was always a holiday where you actually stayed at home, in your house. Having a holiday in our lovely country is a proper holiday and shouldn’t be denigrated by calling it a staycation.

3. Those silly little foil tops they put on toothpaste tubes now. I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to open them even when my fingers worked properly and certainly can’t now. Surely a sealed carton and a cap on the tube is enough protection.

People who say prostrate cancer. Maybe this should be in Pedants' Corner.

GreyKnitter Sun 07-Aug-22 16:11:44

Able bodied people who park in disabled spaces. I understand that not all disabilities are visible but to park in a disabled space you need a blue badge. Also hate those who borrow one from a disabled relative in order to make use of the parking permit on their own.

Chewbacca Sun 07-Aug-22 16:16:45

1. Those tacky wall signs saying "Live Laugh Love" or, even more bizarrely, the ones in bathrooms that say "Soap! Bubbles! Shower!", or in kitchens: "Eat! Food!" like without those instructions, you wouldn't know what the room was for.
2. Hermetically sealed cooked meat, patè and fresh meat that you need an hammerdrill to cut through all the packaging just to get at it.
3. Bottles of bleach, that have such a tight childproof cap on that I end up drilling a hole through the lid just so's I can actually use it.
4. People who walk down the street and in shops, whilst staring fixedly down at their phones, completely oblivious to all the people they've barged into like skittles.

this is a very good thread that you started BlueBelle and you are quite right, the tv show Room 101 is meant to be about things you really dislike and that irritate you.
well, let me see,
the thick eyebrows that remind me of slugs, which are popular with young women and girls now.
buses which turn up to the stop far too early and therefore I miss it.
endless tv shows about how to improve your home and garden that usually cost the earth to do.
shop assistants asking me what else I will be doing with my day, usually only household chores or falling asleep over a
book in my chair.Which I don't like to say.
far too much packaging with any online purchase.

Santana Sun 07-Aug-22 16:31:43

Into my George Orwell room 101, I would add spiders to the rats as I am afraid of both.
In the Frank Skinner room, I might shove him as he can be irritating. Sea gulls are top of list as driving me mad. A squeaking baby on my roof and his entire family turn up shouting.
Just a thought on the rain disparity, could we tilt the UK so some of the water sloshes down south from the north?

Oh, thank you so much, that’s very kind of you! thanks
And thank you so much too Lucca thanks
I knew that Lucca would understand my PC quip (tbh, I thought that anyone would)
I do seem to attract some strange reactions.

FannyCornforth Sun 07-Aug-22 16:43:20

Thank you too Icanhandthemback thanks
Seriously, I don’t have a volatile bone in my body, especially now I have had my Evil Hip removed.

Thank you BlueBelle for starting this fun thread, I hope that I haven’t caused too much of a distraction

BlueBelle Sun 07-Aug-22 17:15:01

You haven’t caused any problem Fanny we sorted it in post 2 and 3 as far as I remember I wish it would stop getting referred to, its old news
Well how about I put it in Room 101 and we just get on with the fun
Shops who have put their prices up even before their new consignment of goods have come in grrrr

Chewbacca Sun 07-Aug-22 17:20:20

Shops who have put their prices up even before their new consignment of goods have come in grrrr

Grrrrrr indeed BlueBelle; that's happened to me just this week. Actually told me that the stock they had on the shelves was the last available, no more to be had. Bought what I thought would be sufficient for the job but found that I'd actually need a bit more. Returned to the shop 1 week later and the price had gone up 25%.

Rosina Sun 07-Aug-22 17:27:19

Fanny Cornforth you are lively and intelligent, and it's a pleasure to read your posts. You have not caused a distraction. Perhaps we should consign to Room 102 - as I believe we are now calling it - those who cannot cope with what they perceive to be harsh criticism when it is merely a good humoured comment. I am 'right fed up' with people who are looking to be insulted - they, like the Dementas in Harry Potter books, suck all the fun and laughter out of life.

ordinarygirl Sun 07-Aug-22 17:40:19

graffiti - ugly, not artistic and devalues the towns it exists in
litter - why are people not trained to use bins or take litter home?

Jendel Sun 07-Aug-22 17:54:13

Bloody plastic packaging on everything
