Brrrr good job I got my fleecy warm leggings yesterday, I’ve already got them on as it’s so chilly outside. It’s a bit grey and damp but not actually raining so I’ve no excuse to come in from the garden, except for this little lunch break of course. DH has decided to give our largish hedge it’s annual trim so that’ll keep him busy this afternoon
Hope you’re feeling better soon bellanonna and your arm is ok too grannysomerset. We got our covid booster jabs last week and luckily no side effects. They’d run out of the flu jabs though so will get those done soon.
The flower festival sounds lovely nannytopsy something to look forward to

Hello Barmeyoldbat

As usual I am not up with all the kitchen news.

Thought I would tell you something that happened a few minutes ago in our house.

My tumble dryer broke down last weekend, the engineer came and looked at it this morning, DH was chatting with him in the laundry when I heard him say ^ there is no hurry, we are going away in a few days so will not be here to use it^. Cue me running in and disrupting the conversation with yes we are going away which is precisely why I need it pretty damn quickly

Fortunately engineer is married and understood, he is returning with the part needed in a couple of hours ???

I love DH dearly but I am beginning to realise he has no concept of what happens between dirty clothes being placed in the washing basket and their return journey to his wardrobe ??

❤️ that GG13!

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. We were up very late last night watching’Pinnochio’ on Disney Plus! Not much done so far today other than catching up on emails and reading Gransnet. I will move from this chair eventually, have just eaten a lovely bowl of porridge. It’s sunny here but this a definite nip it in the air. I have received a £25 cheque from a Premium Bond win and have spent it already grin. I have bought a cheap ‘Oodie’ from Amazon, recommended in another thread, and a plug-in Russell Hobbs ceramic heater. I feel the cold much more than Mr.B and I’m getting prepared! I think these sort of items will probably sell out as fuel cost rises begin to bite.

Thinking of LadyLFL, hope the scan has gone well.

Blossoming Sat 17-Sept-22 13:54:20

There is a definite nip in the air, don’t know where those extra words came from..,

soop Sat 17-Sept-22 14:51:59

A very warm welcome, Barmeyoldbat. Make yourself comfortable. I have plumped the cushion in your chair in readiness. flowers

Yia Us lot look forward to your return to the kitchen. You will be savoring the memories of your holiday for many months ahead.

Bellanonna Sorry to hear that you had a nasty reaction to the vaccine. On one previous occasion, Mr Soop went through a similar experience. Take things easy. No need to exert yourself until you feel 100% well.

Nannytopsy I enjoy flower festivals. Our village church puts on a fabulous show (most years). Covid has seen two such festivals put on hold.

soop Sat 17-Sept-22 14:56:53

GrannyGravy Thank you for making me chuckle. grin

Llfl You are in our thoughts. sunshine

I am wearing my sheepskin slippers. Not glamorous but wonderfully comforting.

I shall warm myself a little more by mounting my bicycle that goes no place. Maybe manage 45 mins today.

BlueBalou Sat 17-Sept-22 15:18:07

Good afternoon kitcheners from a sunny but nippy Wiltshire, there’s a definite chill to the air.
DDog and I are lounging around doing little, quite simply because I spent the morning cleaning and tidying while DH walked the furrybum, I get on so much quicker if he and she are out! It’s looking the tidiest it’s been for a wee while.
I am knitting an Aran hoodie for my great niece, trying to get it finished before mid October when her grandparents are coming here.
I love this time of year, I am even looking forward to lighting the wood burner!
I hope you all have a peaceful weekend, xx

soop Sat 17-Sept-22 16:43:42

BlueBalou Please may we see a photo of the Aran hoodie when it is finished? And, yes to the occasion when we light the wood burner. As the nights draw in, there is nothing more comforting than seeing the flames dance and hearing the crackle of wood.

Best wishes to you all. I hope to be with you again tomorrow. smile moon

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 17-Sept-22 17:38:14

Hello all. I’m sitting on the sofa snuggled in a blanket. I think it’s time to put my sandals away and get out my socks! Well, I was up at 6 am, left the house at 7 am and arrived at the hospital at 7.40 am where the car park was nearly empty. The radiographer was lovely and the consultation and CT scan were all over by 9.30 am. I should get the results in a few days. She will ring with them and my GP will also contact me. Fish and chips for dinner but in the meantime OH is making a pot of tea. I hope you’ve all had a good day in this strangely autumnal weather.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 17-Sept-22 19:09:04

I am also on the sofa, but lying full length with a Welsh wool blanket over me and a hot water bottle, also wearing my arran jumper. Meanwhile Mr B is sitting in shorts and a short sleeve shirt, I do wonder if we are on the same planet. GG13 you made me laugh, that’s men all over. We are waiting to have wooden shutters fitted in the upstairs rooms, it’s been nearly 4 months now and we have no curtain in our bedroom as the rails fell down and we had it all plastered neatly. So Mr B puts a curtain up every night jammed into the window and now the fitter has rang to say there is a delay of at least two weeks, that’s ok was Mr B reply, no it’s not I want my bedroom back to looking nice and have a proper covering over the window.

Grannmarie Sat 17-Sept-22 19:09:38

Thanks for the update, Ladyleftfieldlover, I've been thinking about you today. Sounds like excellent service this morning! Hope you get good news soon.

I'm just home from early evening Mass with my sisters, where I lit candles ? and remembered all who wish/ need a wee prayer. ??

I've had a lazy day, DH was helping DS2 to prepare an area in his garden for a new shed ( for DGS2's big outside toys!!) so I have been ' titivating ' as my dear Mum would have said, in preparation for our cousin's son's wedding celebrations this evening. They were married in Vegas last week! So I did all the hair, nails, make up this afternoon, just have to jump into the frock and pashmina now and off we go!

Barmeyoldbat Sat 17-Sept-22 19:14:41

Well have a lovely time Granmarie, wish I could do my own nails but I am hopeless

Grannmarie Sat 17-Sept-22 19:17:29

Barmeyoldbat, I have to put my reading glasses on, or I can't see the edges!!!
You sound lovely and cosy on your sofa , I hope you get your bedroom sorted soon. ?

Jaxjacky Sat 17-Sept-22 19:36:10

Hi all, gosh it’s been cold today, us softy southerners are in shock, I had flip flops on last Monday, socks and slippers have replaced them llfl. I even enthusiastically bunged the hoover around this morning to warm up, that’s desperate!
I have wood burner envy, we had one in France and I’d love one here, I don’t think it’s feasible, unless the stairs are moved ?. I’ll be interested in how you get on with the ceramic heater Blossoming please.
A faffing day, garden needs more tidying, I’ll wait until Wednesday, 21 forecast.
Fish fingers, chips and peas for dinner, we’re watvhing Paddington, a favourite at all times.
Enjoy your evening all x

Barmeyoldbat Sat 17-Sept-22 19:42:38

I wish I could light our wood burner but I just know that Mr B will be too hot and end up opening the window which really defeats the object. Granmarie I envy you having reading glasses, lost mine and then found them by sitting on them and my new ones won’t be ready now until Wednesday. Don’t know why they got delayed.

brook2704 Sat 17-Sept-22 20:36:25

Hope you’re having a lovely evening grannmarie!
For those sat snuggled up and cosy on the sofa - enjoy ?

Urmstongran Sat 17-Sept-22 21:44:05

‘Evening All’

We are just home after babysitting. Kettle’s on!

It’s been so mild today here in south Manchester. Sunny too which is lovely. We went over at 5pm. The children were eating their tea at the breakfast bar while mum & dad were upstairs getting ready. The Boy Wonder was allowed time on his PlayStation after.

I asked L’il Miss if she wanted to go out for a walk after tea, or go on her scooter or maybe take baba in her pram to the park?

LM: “With you grandma?”
Me: “I think now you’re five you can go by yourself can’t you?”
Stunned look!
Me: “Of course with me ha!”
?

Good evening Kitcheners. I've just finished watching Ep1 of Doc Martin and about to start Ep2 before bed.

Glorious day here today in mid Cornwall. Had an enjoyable relax morning in the garden with MrM and then realised early this evening we should have gone to have our shingles vaccination and MrM his phnuem one this morning. I will grovel to the surgery on Tuesday. Alert has been set on my phone for our flu and covid booster for 15 October !

How was that cocktail and canapés evening annsixty? Hope you sampled a few for us all.

Welcome to the kitchen Barmeyoldbat. We are holding off lighting our wood burner. MrM is currently sat in a tee shirt?. I have two layers on - both long sleeved. I'm on the look out for some cozy slippers soop.

You tease Urm ?

annsixty Sat 17-Sept-22 23:47:28

Hello all.
I am just back from my evening out with drinks and canapés to celebrate two birthdays.
I would like to say it was enjoyable, actually it was not.
Lots of youngsters who were all very pleasant and well behaved.
However the disco was very very loud and conversation was impossible.
The canapés while delicious hardly filled a very small corner and my friend who had paid for them was very disappointed.
The party girls enjoyed it and that is what it was all about.
I am now so tired, well passed my bed time.
Good night all and sweet dreams.

Blossoming Sun 18-Sept-22 13:14:52

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. I was early to bed yesterday after having a rush of blood to the head and cleaning the upstairs shower (sorry Urms!).

Glad your appointment went well Ladyleftfieldlover, hope the results are good. Sorry your evening was disappointing Annsixty but glad the girls enjoyed it.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the ceramic heaters Jax but I decided to give it a try. It should arrive sometime next week so will let you know. My ‘oodie’ has just been delivered so off to try it on.

Jaxjacky Sun 18-Sept-22 14:08:22

Thanks Blossoming.
I’ve optimistically put washing out to dry, sunny intervals and it’s blowing a bit. Pruned the lavender, pulled up some weeds and the slow cooker has beef in red wine for dinner.
We have an afternoon of football with new series of Bloodlands starting tonight.
I’ll pop back later to catch up.

annsixty Sun 18-Sept-22 14:36:23

Forgive me for being “ungrateful “ last evening.
It was good that my friend’s family invited me and I do appreciate it but I have decided I am too old for such events.
We were picked up at 6:45 and I was then told the return taxi was booked for 11.
My first thought was kill me now.
I am never out of bed after 10 with 9-9:30 being normal for me.
It was so noisy and we all possibly drank more than was good for us although I personally drank about a gallon of water which resulted in many bathroom visits throughout the night.
It also turned out to be quite expensive .
Two gifts, taxis and then 3 of us bought bottles of wine for the table costing us £30 each.
Oh well I won’t be able to take it with me, if there is any left by then.
I was so tired when I got to bed hence my little moan on here last night.

Blossoming Sun 18-Sept-22 14:42:20

Moaning is definitely allowed in here Annsixty and I can well understand how you felt. Hope you’re having a restful day.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 18-Sept-22 15:02:07

Hello all. What a beautiful day, although church this morning was freezing. At least I had socks and boots on! We had lunch at one of our favourite pubs which has only just reopened after 9 weeks due to a fire. They do the best prawn cocktail and their beef is sublime. The landlord used to be a butcher so knows all about meat. I have been reading the third and final volume of Chips Channon’s diaries. Very naughty indeed, but wonderfully historical.
