There’s a definite nip in the air here, I’ve just given in and put the heating on for a while to warm up.
I changed all the bedding this morning and decided to change onto our warmer duvet too. We usually last with the summer duvet until the end of September but it’s been feeling a bit too chilly. It started raining just after lunch so we gave up on the gardening and went out for a coffee and a cake instead - a much better idea! Then a last minute request from DD2 to take DGS to his football practice and then to drop off DGD at her brownies. They’re always si busy with after school activities and it’s just lovely to see them even just for a few minutes.
Enjoy your cycling soop and blossoming and hope all the test results are ok llfl

‘Evening All’
(No Dixon, he won’t make an appearance for some reason!).

I’m home! Got back into Manchester at 8pm, no queues, taxi home (no rain either!) and we’ve just had tea & toast. Water on, heating up for a shower.

We’ve had a wonderful summer in Málaga! ?

No idea what’s been going on in the kitchen. I’ll skim read to catch up as best as.

? to all in this little haven. x

Urmstongran Thu 15-Sept-22 21:39:16

Ah.
I wonder why he was so reticent earlier?

Good morning Kitcheners. Glorious Cornish sunshine but 10 degrees outside. 17 inside but there may be a fire tonight to keep our little cottage warm.
MrM and I had an excellent meal on Tuesday. The pub only had 3 other tables with eaters. A sign that the Cornish holiday Crush is over.

Excellent news soop.

. Ladyleftfieldlover fingers crossed here that all will be well.

Welcome back Urm.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 16-Sept-22 09:55:47

Thank you for everyone’s best wishes. I had another five little test tubes of blood taken this morning. Eek! CT scan in Oxford tomorrow and a talk with my GP, probably the middle of next week.

annsixty Fri 16-Sept-22 10:17:14

Good morning all.
I have been missing from this lovely kitchen for a week or so, so will try to catch up.
I know some kitcheners are unwell, waiting for scans, test results etc and some have had encouraging news so I send my best wishes to you all.

My friend with cancer has been told her treatment will stop now.
She is so stoic and I pray that she will cope well.
My other friend waiting to see if his cancer has returned is now waiting for an MRI as the ct scan was “ambiguous “
So hard for him and his wife.

I had my Covid booster yesterday with no ill effect at all.
Flu next Saturday but dental checkup due on Monday has now been rearranged for October 10th.
I should be a new woman after that.
I do hope so as the old one is running out of steam.

Out last Saturday for a very nice meal and again tomorrow with my friend across the road for a “cocktails and canapes” do to celebrate her GGD’s 18th and her GD’s 40th birthdays .
Quite the social butterfly.

I miss Grandmabatty and I hope things are well with her.
I look forward to her return along with so many kitcheners we don’t hear from these days.

Have the very best weekend you can and I hope Monday goes as well as these things can.
I am not a royalist but admired the Queen enormously, I hope Charles does as good a job.

Naughtyneine Fri 16-Sept-22 10:31:09

I think my FB this morning says it all!!
I'd forgotten how much fun the joys of a heavy cold can be.... My get up and go...got up and went and as yet has not returned or is even in sight...my inclination to do housework has disappeared (oh hang on that was never much in evidence anyway). I've discovered there is even a snotty emoji ?. I'm regretting having mirrors in nearly every room in the cottage as it's freaking scary to catch sight of this wild eyed wild haired hag that seems to have been following me around for days. So to the kind wee soul who passed this to me...I wish you happiness and laughter and joy unending...oh actually no I don't...I hope you sneeze and your legs fall off!!!!!!

soop Fri 16-Sept-22 16:11:43

A cheery welcome home, Urms.

brook Snap! You are correct, it is time for changing the bed sheets and covers to something cosier. My feet were perishing cold in bed, and at one point, I even considered getting a hot water bottle. hmm

muse Having lived in Cornwall, I prefer Cornwall out of season.

Ladyleftfieldlover Dear lady, please, please rest your weary body. No point whatsoever pushing yourself to do unnecessary jobs aboot the hoos. The dust won't go anywhere until you feel a whole lot better.

Hello annsixty, I've missed you. Your post is beautifully written. Thank you for bringing us lot up to date with your busy life.

I have two pet portraits waiting to be sketched. I will wait until after the Queen's funeral and then I won't be tempted to keep checking on the television coverage.

It is a sunny, blustery and bracing day. The waves are white-capped.

Away to empty the washing machine. After which, a nice cup of tea. All very civilised. wink

I shall join you all again tomorrow. I shall also raise a glass of full-bodied red wine to your health later this evening. smile moon

brook2704 Fri 16-Sept-22 17:48:30

Lovely to hear from you annsixty, enjoy your meal out tomorrow and the birthday celebrations
Ive been for a splash around in the pool at the gym, then into town to buy some cost warm leggings, a couple of thermal tops and some warm socks! That should see me through a few weeks
Your holiday sounds lovely yia - enjoy every minute, and hoping you feel better soon neine, take care all

Blossoming Fri 16-Sept-22 18:29:29

Pleased you’re enjoying your holiday Yiayia. I’m having a lazy afternoon, Mr. B is making pasta and meatballs for dinner while I admire the view from our window. I love Autumn sunshine and the trees are just beginning to turn. September is my favourite month.
Goodnight dear Kitcheners, TOYA.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 16-Sept-22 18:58:28

Never been or read this thread before, but what a joy it is, full of general chit chat with large bouts of humour. I have been in absolute pain, pain that was so bad I felt sick for most of the day, but at long last it’s under control and to my amazement after I rang the surgery this afternoon the Dr rang me back and seems to think I have a lung infection and arranged for antibiotics to be delivered to me. Wonderful service. I did want to cycle to Cardiff today to see our new king but of course it didn’t happen but never mind. Blimey they are talking on the weather forecast about it being really cold to night with a frost, good job I have my hottie out. Take care everyone

Bellanonna Fri 16-Sept-22 19:30:50

Welcome to soop’s kitchen, Barmey. I’m sorry to read about how unwell you’ve felt and hope the meds do the trick.
Yesterday I went for my 5th vaccine. Up to now I’ve always had Pfizer but this was the latest Moderna one which is meant to protect against variants. By evening I was shaking from head to toe with a nagging headache. DH prepared me 2 hot water bottles and I fell into bed fully clad, intending to get up later. Instead I woke at 11.30 this morning needing the loo.

I changed but went back to bed after DH had given me some tea. More paracetamol for the throbbing head and I eventually got up at 3.

Just a warning to anyone taking the new vaccine, don’t have anything planned for the next day or two. I had to cancel tomorrow’s Pilates but hope to feel a bit better. It’s not like me to lie around doing nothing but this vaccine was a real shock.

All the best to everyone on here. Hope to see you again, Barmey.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 16-Sept-22 19:52:25

Whow Bellanna that was some sleep, you might have even slept longer if you hadn’t needed the loo.

Blossoming Fri 16-Sept-22 19:59:27

Hello BarmeyOldBat, this kitchen is a warm and welcoming place. Hope you visit again smile

Urmstongran Fri 16-Sept-22 20:00:45

‘Evening All’

We are just about to eat. I’m hungry! Chicken thighs in Nando’s peri-peri sauce with ping mushroom rice. What could be easier eh? Eat your heart out Delia.

? raising one back to you dear soop.

It’s lovely to be home. I ❤️ both our small places for different reasons. Had a squidge with Li’l Miss and the Boy Wonder after school. I’m very lucky. “Wherever I Lay my Hat, that’s my Home” ? ?

Stepfather reminded me today (we always speak every day - we take turns to ring late morning) that his brother had his birthday and is 97y old. Wowzer! Such a nice man. I rang him today to wish him many happy returns of the day and said we all hope to visit him in a few weeks. He said “looking forward to it already! I will book a table in that restaurant we all like for luncheon”. Love that word. Not used much nowadays is it?
?

Urmstongran Fri 16-Sept-22 20:06:29

? to you BarmeyoldBat! soops is the nicest of places for chat, support and kindness in general. We all need a cosy corner now & again.

Grannmarie Fri 16-Sept-22 20:16:43

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people!?

Just catching up with everyone's news, lovely to hear of people enjoying holidays and family visits/ celebrations.

Thinking of all with ailments and appointments, fingers crossed ? for tomorrow, Ladyleftfieldlover.

? Brook, you reminded me that it's nearly time to put the winter bedding on the bed and in the garden! I like heathers, winter pansies, ivy and cyclamen in my tubs and baskets.

Neine, I believe mirrors are overrated! Just ignore them and be kind to yourself!

Welcome back, Urms, you sound rejuvenated after your wonderful summer in the sun! ☀

? Hello, YiaYia, enjoy the rest of your holidays!

Annsixty, you have been missed, enjoy your cocktail evening tomorrow. You are wise to keep social engagements, helps to lift the spirits when you have sadness around you. ?

I, too, miss Grandmabatty and often think of her and her wee family. Hoping that she is able to return soon.

Muse, I hope you and MrM enjoy your cosy fireplace this evening. That's one of the nice things about the change of season.

Thinking of all those brave souls in The Queue tonight, I hope they are prepared for the drop in temperature that is forecast. ❄

DSisterinL and I were out all afternoon, paying a visit to the ' old Aunties ' of the family, who buried their daughter/ Goddaughter last week. Bittersweet moments, lots of happy memories, we laughed and we cried, so sad to listen to the bereaved mother recounting her last moments with her only daughter.
On the way home, DSisterinL and I realised that when these two senior ladies of the family ' go', we will be the ' old aunties'. Very sobering and humbling thought.

Hello ? and welcome Barmeyoldbat, I am sorry to hear about your pain, I hope it will be under control soon. Well done you, still cycling! My lovely ladies' cycle, with pink mudguards and wicker basket, has languished in the back of the garage since I fell off it before lockdown. I was never a very competent cyclist, wobbled a lot, ? , have since gained weight and lost confidence, don't know when/if I will cycle again...

TOYA, sorry if I've missed anyone, NNGB.???

Jaxjacky Fri 16-Sept-22 20:46:30

Hi all, Urms pleased you’re back safely, I really think you have your life well sussed.
Good to hear from you annsixty I’m pleased your Covid jab was fine when Bellanonna had a reaction, we’re all different I suppose, cocktails and canapés sounds fun.
Naughty cover the mirrors and recover soon, no housework though, it’s bad for poorly people.
Welcome barmey frost, goodness, I think we’re down to 5 here later, a swift recovery hopefully for you.
Bonsoir Yia we love St Malo, it’s so magical, enjoy the short time left.
Thanks for the reminder brook the thermals in my online Decathlon goody basket won’t arrive unless I checkout will it.
Penultimate evening at outdoor bowls earlier, a definite nip in the air and fun, a sort of ‘End of term’ air to the group I was in, we finished last before the next session, everyone else watching, grumpily. Some take it very seriously, Friday is practice night ?

Grannmarie Fri 16-Sept-22 20:56:13

Bellanonna, so sorry to hear of your reaction to the vaccine ?, I hope you feel better soon.

Enjoy your outdoor bowls, Jaxjacky. Will you continue with Indoor at the end of the month? DiL2's Mum really enjoyed her bowls, they went to see the competitions when Glasgow held the Commonwealth Games.

Jaxjacky Fri 16-Sept-22 21:12:29

Thanks Grannmarie we start indoor on the 29th, MrJ, who’s played before years ago, prefers the indoor.
I’ve just read Le Touquet airport in France is being renamed Queen Elizabeth 11, what a lovely gesture.
Enjoy the last vestige of this evening all x

cornergran Fri 16-Sept-22 23:59:09

Good to see you barmey, sorry you’ve been in so much pain, your GP sounds a keeper.. Hope you’re more comfortable tomorrow.

Oh heck bellanonna, that sounds quite a reaction. Mr C and I both had our jabs this week, the all singing dancing Moderna, not a reaction between us. Isn’t it odd how different we all are? Hope you’re over it soon.

Pleased you landed safely urms. Good luck tomorrow lasylfl. Enjoy your meal ann.

Apologies to all I’ve missed. My head simply can’t contain all the news. Sleep well everyone. TOYA.

Nannytopsy Sat 17-Sept-22 08:12:11

Morning everyone! I think we have all had a shock with the temperature! It’s sunny but very chilly here this morning. September always catches me out somehow - I expect it to be warmer than it is.
Life is a bit hectic just now. We are having a flower festival at church next weekend and as I am the youngest one of the village ladies I seem to have lots to do! Of course, life goes on as well, so there is gardening, ironing, washing and child care. I shouldn’t complain - it was my idea.
Glad you are home Urms and Yiayia will be soon. Best wishes to those of the kitchen who are unwell, reacting to vaccinations and waiting for results.
I hope everyone gets a chance to sit in the sun today.

GrannySomerset Sat 17-Sept-22 09:23:57

Bathroom feels chilly and can see I will have to consider using the heating soon though am putting off the moment as long as I can. Bright and still though, so should be a nice day. Nothing much planned apart from a local, shop.

Thursday’s booster left me feeling very fragile yesterday and I still have a sore arm, but a minor reaction compared with some and worth putting up with. So onwards and upwards!

Bellanonna Sat 17-Sept-22 12:07:49

Thanks for booster good wishes! I’ve still got a headache but have stopped shivering. I’m glad to see others haven’t reacted too badly.
Granny Somerset, yes the sore arm might be there fot a while. I’ve decided to have the flu jab in October. It’s never been a problem but I feel it will see me through the winter.

Have a good weekend everyone.
