I need some help, please.
My to do list is going to include, probably, vertical blinds. (Not everyone's choice, I know)
My living room is starting to look quite dingy; the wood furniture has become dark, and the colours are quite rich.
So, any suggestions of a colour for the blinds?
I had thought of just white, with white flimsy sort of curtains, too, but I'm worried they may show every mark that they'll inevitably get.
Now I'm thinking of a bamboo type, woody looking colour.
Then I could (but don't want to) whitewash the furniture.
Any suggestions?

Yes, I expect that's it she lied
All of this in full sun, too, in front of all the neighbours.
Fitting blinds is really easy but, MissA, as you have been so unwell, I would get somebody else to fit them. Just don't pay through the nose for a nationwide company who are expensive and rely on their brand name.
Thank you.
That's what I need to do - just grit my teeth and pay up for a decent job.
There is a blind man (!) in my area, who is highly recommended.
The perils of DIY.
DH tried to fit blinds in the bathroom. He broke two drill bits trying to drill into the lintel. His stepladder left dents in the floor. Only one got done. The other sits outside waiting. For five years.
I must make the effort to contact a local company to start again.i am sure it will be money well spent, and whilst I am at it, a new blind in the kitchen too, to keep the sun out.
Yes, mine would need to be drilled into the lintil, too.
I'm a downstairs flat, and the huge window in the living room is fitted into a whole upvc panel, with upstairs window straight above it.
I can picture myself on a ladder, trying to hold up my window, the panel, the radiotor(which is set into the lintel) and all of the upstairs weight, too.
My friend in another block can see daylight above her lintel, and her upstairs neighbours panel dropping down into it.
maybe try to get the repairs around the windows done before the blind is fitted, if that is possible?
please just pay up and enjoy sitting back.
My friend was having a nice cool bath when she heard someone at the door. "Who's there?" She called. "It's just me, the blind man," came the reply. "Come on in," she said - and you know what's coming next. ? I'll get my coat.
I would definitely go local as it's easier to sort any problems. I have vertical blinds and next door have the zebra ones. I quite like them

When we downsize my husband says no more DIY. I can't wait!

Oi!
I have gel nails, a bungalow sized tv, and the absolute state of the art latest iPhone to buy out of my benefit money.
Plus me 5 times a week takeaways!
So, jokes aside, any colour suggestions?
My walls are white, after years of magnolia, so I'm a bit loathe to have beige (and I have no grey at all in my living room)
White will work.
I have sort of sage ish green silky curtains, so do you think I would be better to get white?
I don't want just the blinds there, because the panel and window is so ugly.
I think I'll end up with all different shades of white.

You omitted your tats, lip filler and eyebrows. Lol

Can you imagine wavering around on a ladder with a face like that?
I suppose I might bounce back up if I fell off, at least.
You might be able to get white blinds with some sage-ish green on them or maybe get sage-ish green blinds with white curtains. Or keep the sage-ish green curtains and get white blinds. The curtains will provide a break between the whites if they are slightly different shades.
Yes especially if you landed on a pair of overfilled slug like lips....
If you are happy with white walls, which I happen to love, I would tend to go with White blinds. Means you are free to change curtains if you get fed up, and as icanhandthemback points out, the curtains would provide a visual break between any variance in the whites between window and wall. Or you could go two tone to soften the white a bit - I mean white one side, colour on the other side. And try to imagine what they would look like opened, pulled back, and closed as you won't always have a solid covering of colour. It's quite a lot to consider isn't it?
Thank you all.
You've been really helpful.
There is a lot to think about, so I have to really consider everything.
It may take me another 30 odd years.
I hadn't even thought of two tone. Gulp!!

Why don't you go with a different sage ish colour for the blinds. Don't try to match what you have but look to find a contrast, maybe even a darker green.
Oooh, now, there is another good thought.
I think the poor man will have to bring round a lorry full of samples!
I had originally thought of just matching the green curtains, but as I've said, it's all starting to look a bit drab now, and also cluttery.
I also have the worlds busiest rug, in red, gold, green, yellow.
I suppose the rug could go, but I quite like it; hence the idea of whitewashing the furniture.
I've never really had this issue before, i just have what i like and it's always (sort of) gone together.
This is why I'm awake, partly, worrying about the blind situation.
What if I had a red colour? I have red bits and pieces in the room.... sigh.
I once fitted out a suite with vertical blinds and chose three colours - white, silver and navy. The finished result was stunning. The paler colours were perfect for elegance whilst the navy gave a striking effect and was the strong colour out of the decor overall which pulled it all together. You never know, it might work ?
That does sound really good.
My flat is very.. erm.. rustic, I suppose you could say.
I'm not sure it could carry off something so smart.
Now I'm thinking of colour combinations!
It'll be like an acid trip in my living room if I'm not careful!
Red would be very harsh, if you choose white or an off hate cream it will not compete with the curtains.
When we had our blinds fitted, the chap told us of a client who had bought a different colour for each room.
Fine, until you looked at the house from outside.....
