Who hasn’t had Covid?

A group of people is emerging who seem to be immune to the virus. Neither myself nor Dh have had it - I was on the shielded (hate that word) list but took advantage of all that I could do when restrictions were eased a little. I met people, had meals out, stayed in holiday cottage, went to theatre with Dgc etc. Of course I observed all the distancing/mask wearing/sanitising guidelines - many others have also done this and still caught the bug but Dh and I haven’t. My elder daughter is department head in a local academy and she has never had the virus either. She’s in daily contact with 50 department staff plus 100s of pupils and has avoided it. Dgd has had it, but her mother still hasn’t even with it in her own home.

I was just curious to see how many Gnetters have avoided it.

To the best of my knowledge I haven't had covid. Fully jabbed and circulate freely (with a degree of common sense caution). I've reverted to using public transport and attend theatres/ cinemas again. Just thinking recently how well I feel in general. Mind you, personal past experience has taught me that doesn't mean a thing.

So far, so good for me. I have had five jabs. I have tested fairly regularly up until now as I have been in contact with both vulnerable people and those who have tested positive.

My eldest daughter who was ordered to shield (much to he disgust and dislike), back in 2020 has NOT had it. She heads a large community mental health team and seems to be the only one who has not contracted this. Her daughter also has not had it.

A few weeks ago, I thought I had a mild summer cold, decided to test just so that I could reassure everyone I my u3a group that my slight cough was NOT covid. Came back positive - (thought I was just seeing double at first). Very slightly under the weather, most definitely not ill. Without that test and subsequent ones would never have known I had it. Another g.child has not had it, despite everyone else in her family having it and working in the library, mainly in the children's section.

Me. Does it mean that I am exceptionally robust at 74 or that I take great care? The latter is not true as I wear masks as little possible!

Fleurpepper Thu 18-Aug-22 08:49:54

Aveline

Fleurpepper we were disembarked and taken to quarantine at an airport hotel. It was a river cruise. There were many others affected who also had no symptoms.

Wow! So your partner, if you were with him (sorry) also had to leave, even if he was not positive. Did insurance cover for both of you? What a shame.

I had it last year, was on a ventilator for 2 weeks. Husband had it, it was like the 'flu. One son had it, he was hospitalised for 3 days. Other son hasn't had Covid, hasn't had any of the jabs, never gets so much as a cold

Aveline Thu 18-Aug-22 11:23:17

Fleurpepper. Yes my DH came too. However, not only did insurance cover us, the VG cruise company phoned on my first day home and offered a very good compensation package indeed. We've actually come out of it very well. It would have been better for our holiday to work out as planned but we've now got another cruise to look forward to FOC.

No I haven't had it. My daughter is the only one in our family who has had it. My sister had it a few weeks ago. We spend time together every day. I tested for the next three days..negative. Feel absolutely fine. There is no rhyme nor reason

Pudding123 Thu 18-Aug-22 11:37:16

I must have had it March 20 as I had gone to bed perfectly fine but lost my taste and smell but no other symptoms my taste has still not returned but my sense of smell has husband has not had covid and considering he is now 71 has never been ill in his life apart from getting a cold about 3 times in his life...some people seem to have natural immunity.

I’ve not had it, i work on education where every other staff member had it and two thirds of the children (over a long period of time)
However, December 2019 before Covid broke, myself and my DH were both really poorly with what we now know to be classic Covid symptoms… anyone else?

JuBut Fri 19-Aug-22 11:16:33

I was a retired nurse, went back to my local hospital to help with covid. I worked with covid patients and afterwards gave covid jabs. Never contracted covid. My husband hasn't had it either. Family members have

Natasha76 Fri 19-Aug-22 11:16:38

DH & I have not had it nor has my bridge partner & her husband and she works in and out of care homes & has tested very frequently throughout. We have never shielded & went back to eating out & visiting museums & theatre as soon as we were able. I have 11 grandchildren who range from 11 to 1 and I have looked after them at different times throughout, collecting from school, nursery as well as being on holiday with them.I don't think I'm superhuman or immune but think I must have had it & been asymptomatic. I still test if I feel unwell or need to because I'm going to see vulnerable people.

I haven’t, but had all jabs offered, which for me was 3 plus the extra booster due to having chemotherapy……. I have been pretty careful though, staying home, mixing outdoors and wearing a mask indoors, lots of hand washing.

OldEnough2noBetter Fri 19-Aug-22 11:17:19

I haven’t had it. I was ‘shielded’, diagnosed with breast cancer just as lockdown hit. I’ve been mostly a recluse, with an immune system weakened by treatment. Whenever I’m out I wear a mask - especially on public transport - keep my distance, wash my hands at least 20 seconds very often, etc. My DH worked constantly throughout lockdown as he is an essential worker, in direct contact with the public, and he’s not caught it. He still scours his hands the instant he comes in the door from work.

antheacarol55 Fri 19-Aug-22 11:18:28

My son he could not have the vaccine, I was extremely worried about him getting Covid because he gets everything going.
I had two jabs and got Covid I did have the booster because I had a reaction to second jab and also the flu vaccine made me very ill ,for the first time ever.
I think my body was saying stop putting chemicals into it

I will not be having flu vaccthis year or anymore Covid vaccines

ClaraB Fri 19-Aug-22 11:18:39

We haven’t had it but I’m classed as vulnerable and still being careful. We are doing more now, have been abroad twice on planes but still wearing masks.

Nannina Fri 19-Aug-22 11:19:49

I’ve not had Covid either, I shielded twice and each time re-entered the world cautiously. Only one of my circle of friends has had Covid, she works in a health care setting. We’ve all been friends for 30 years but have never been the huggy/kissy type and all have been careful. In family only my 15 year old granddaughter has had the virus but she is of the huggy/kissy generation. I think there may be a lesson there

Amandajs66 Fri 19-Aug-22 11:21:08

I haven’t had it either, all my family have.
I’m going on holiday in a few weeks, 3 days before I fly I’ve got a family funeral, I bet if I’m going to get covid it will be from someone at the funeral and I’ll have to cancel my holiday.

crazygranmda Fri 19-Aug-22 11:21:22

Hope I'm not tempting providence! Neither of us have had it despite having been in contact with it as all DD's daughter had it. DS and family who also live close haven't had it. We're going about our life as usual though staying aware. All very strange.

SecondhandRose Fri 19-Aug-22 11:22:28

None of us have had it. I am about to have vaccine no 5 as am considered immune suppressed due to previous chemo.

Su12 Fri 19-Aug-22 11:24:40

I had avoided it until three weeks ago. The day after returning from holiday Covid hit me and I felt really rough for the best part of a week.

Janetashbolt Fri 19-Aug-22 11:27:41

Husband not I have had it and I've worked at a GP surgery all through. 7 of my colleagues have had it though

Brownowl564 Fri 19-Aug-22 11:27:57

No, haven’t had it

ScotGranny3 Fri 19-Aug-22 11:28:50

I've not had covid. I've had all my vaccinations and will happily take the next one.

granjan66 Fri 19-Aug-22 11:29:30

My OH and I haven't had it despite flying, going on a cruise and returning to a normal life. We took all precautions, mask wearing etc.
