Who hasn’t had Covid?

A group of people is emerging who seem to be immune to the virus. Neither myself nor Dh have had it - I was on the shielded (hate that word) list but took advantage of all that I could do when restrictions were eased a little. I met people, had meals out, stayed in holiday cottage, went to theatre with Dgc etc. Of course I observed all the distancing/mask wearing/sanitising guidelines - many others have also done this and still caught the bug but Dh and I haven’t. My elder daughter is department head in a local academy and she has never had the virus either. She’s in daily contact with 50 department staff plus 100s of pupils and has avoided it. Dgd has had it, but her mother still hasn’t even with it in her own home.

I was just curious to see how many Gnetters have avoided it.

Neither DH or I have ha it, neither has DD who uses public transport to travel to work in London and back.

Oh, forgot DS hasn't had it, although the his wife and children have.

Neither I or DH have had it in spite of regularly flying back and forth to mi Casa once regulation allowed over the last two and a half years.

We’ve both only had one cold since 2016 and have been religious with disinfecting anything we touch in public since then.

We’ve followed all the mask, distancing rules applicable since COVID arrived and I’m convinced that our daily intake of home made kefir keeps us well.

I’ve been blessed with very good health but DH has various issues so I’m determined to keep my ?!

I our immediate family: I have had it, DH hasn’t. Our younger son and his wife had it last week, both have contact with the general public in their jobs. Our older son and his wife both work in retail and worked all through the pandemic but neither of them have had it, neither have their two daughters - 24 and 13 but their 12 year old son has. Their older daughter lives with her boyfriend and he has had it twice, they both work in retail. We have all had the recommended vaccinations. There is no rational explanation for who has and hasn’t had it.

I haven’t officially , as in no positive test.
Neither has DH, DD3 and her husband or youngest boy although the eldest (6) had it about a year ago.
We have all at some points been in contact with others who have then tested positive.
Talking with friends and family it seems there is little logic to it.

I haven`t had it either, but several of my family members have, maybe I`m just lucky.

I am sure we have been asymptomatic - touch wood-head

Oldbat1 Wed 17-Aug-22 19:27:23

Dh nor I have had it. Dh is high risk but has had 4jabs. He has stage 4 cancer. We don’t go to cinemas or eat out anywhere but we’ve been away in motorhome. Rest of family have had it but very rarely see them as they live 300mles away.

We have all had it, except for DS1 although his wife was laid very low with it and their children were coughing and snivelling for weeks and tested positive once or twice.

He puts it down to his blood group being O, although our other daughter-in-law also has that blood group and she did catch it.

I'm surprised not more people have mentioned blood group on this thread (only VB000 so far). This may be a myth but it is less far-fetched than some of the theories that have been bandied about since the pandemic started.

I haven't had it despite DH having it. DD and family also had it, DD 3 times.

MayBee70 Wed 17-Aug-22 19:37:04

I haven’t either but have been obsessively careful throughout the pandemic and am still being so. Had an engineer fixing something in my house today and I wore a mask. Currently at my daughters looking after her dog but I’ll leave the house before they get back. Still not going to any indoor places. Looked after my younger grandchildren the other week and worried about that but was ok.

PoppyFlower Wed 17-Aug-22 19:38:16

I haven't had it so far, neither have my elderly parents. My sister recently had it (badly) and also five of my cousins..

rafichagran Wed 17-Aug-22 19:38:40

I have not had it yet, neither has my partner, my daughter and Grandson have had it though.

MissAdventure Wed 17-Aug-22 19:43:35

I wonder if we could find anything that the "not had" people have in common, just out of interest?

Georgesgran Wed 17-Aug-22 19:54:28

Me - not yet, but never say never.

Close-knit family of eight, living close together as well: two DGPs with two DDs with partners, each with two children. All have tested positive at various times, some more than once, except DGM and one DGC. One DG and his father have had symptoms, otherwise the positive testers have been pretty much asymptomatic. I, DGF, was certainly symptom-free.

Conclusion: it's all pretty random.

I haven’t, although I’m still being fairly careful as my husband is CEV. But we do have been on a few ferries, a couple of short breaks with friends, out to dinner now and then, and we provide childcare a couple of days a week, and didn’t get it when all three grandkids did, which surprised me.

Fingers crossed it stays that way, and I haven’t jinxed us both now!

Me, my husband and my youngest have not had it that we know of. We are all 3 vaccinated with a booster. My oldest had it earlier this summer. She did not get the booster. We sent her to her room for 5 days and the rest of us managed to not get it. Hers was very mild and by day 3 she was feeling fine and was mad she had to stay away.

I suspect that more of us have had it then we think. Many people are finding it after testing positive for travel or work with no symptoms.

I was interested in what the worldwide numbers look like. As of August 17th, 589,680,368 people have tested positive for Covid worldwide. There are 7.97 billion people in the world.

That is about 7.3% of the population worldwide.

While these numbers could be way off due to people not testing or reporting test results, it does lead me to believe that more people have not had it then those who have. Knowing that, I do not think it would be unusual for people to never have had it.

Floradora9 Wed 17-Aug-22 21:35:11

DH got it on a holiday to Lanzarote but I have never had it . We were very caeful while he was ill to keep apart though .

Fleurpepper Wed 17-Aug-22 21:38:52

What happened next then Aveline?

OH is the only person close to me who has not had Covid. Double jabbed + booster.

SusieB50 Wed 17-Aug-22 21:40:04

I have always tested negative , but had a horrible virus over the Jubilee weekend and was left with breathlessness , palpitations and dreadful cough. A friend’s doctor son says the LF tests don’t always pick up Omicron . Apart from being similarly ill in Jan 2020 soon after DH died, before all the testing started . So maybe I’ve had it twice or maybe not …

Aveline Wed 17-Aug-22 21:53:22

Fleurpepper we were disembarked and taken to quarantine at an airport hotel. It was a river cruise. There were many others affected who also had no symptoms.

Oldnproud Wed 17-Aug-22 22:07:00

Our younger son hadn't had it until this week, even though his wife had it a few months ago, but he tested positive this Monday.
Neither DH nor I have had it yet, but we were at a family get-together with DS2 on Sunday, so watch this space. The same applies to my mother.

Daisymae Thu 18-Aug-22 07:45:37

Not had it but don't go out very much, certainly not large groups.

tickingbird Thu 18-Aug-22 07:53:13

I haven’t had it despite being in close contact with 3 different people who have tested positive the following day.
