Sorry Serendipity - you look beautiful as ever! ?

FannyCornforth Sun 21-Aug-22 10:15:37

My explanation of its origins isn’t mentioned (I still think I’m right though! wink)
It used to mean something very small and insignificant, but it’s meaning changed in the 1920’s

*Giulia*, Bees - knees is a corruption of the word ‘business’.
As in, ‘looking the business’.

It’s probably got US origins, maybe a movie or song?
I shall investigate… ?

Thank you. Very interesting. It is such an absurd expression. It came up in an advanced English/Italian translation with my advanced students. They were totally flummoxed and I was unable to supply any explanation.

Beautiful Serendipity. It's many years since I felt a million dollars. I am a physical wreck.

Baggs Sun 21-Aug-22 10:24:49

Lovely pics, serendipity. I couldn't wear a dress like that.

But what I found myself doing early this morning is mentally envisaging the outfit that will could make me feel as energetic as I used to be. I've aquired the skirt, made of cotton and silk. Just have to find the perfect top now.

It's going to be my "serenity" outfit. Got the idea from that cult series, Firefly, where the young female mechanic finds her dream dress that everyone else – more stylish and who doesn't spend their time in engine-suitable clothes – thinks is awful.

Ohhhhhh why the heck not .... yeahhhh.

Well I am just a Yorkshire lass and that was my Million Dollar moment....

Go on Big Bertha1 do it .... x

We've had our Million Dollar moment and how brilliant is it to look back and remember..... it doesnt matter what the heck it is as long as we feel THE BEES KNEES in it ( love that expression hahaha)

Since I had the time during the covid lockdowns I really went through my clothes and decided not only to reduce how many I had but only buy/wear the things I felt really good in. It's worked. I feel good in nearly every thing now and I take better care of everything plus there have been no impulse buys this summer, win win.

Blossoming

Yammy

I wouldn't dare to bare like Blossoming something might fall where it shouldn't but she really is one claassy lady.

I haven’t bared anything Yammy, did you mean Serendipity?

I do mean Serendipity sorry, I was thinking of your Red coat I once had a beautiful one and someone at work made a remark about it and I never wore it again. I was silly but somehow managed with the red shoes.
I still have a pair but these days they are Carvela comfort...pity really I think I should still try and pull a heeled pair off.

FannyCornforth Sun 21-Aug-22 10:43:15

To be honest Serendipity, I don’t think that I have had a Million Dollar Moment!

Kate1949 Sun 21-Aug-22 10:47:32

Thank you Serendipity. As the poem goes ‘when I grow old I shall wear purple etc’.

Your dress is so stylish especially the back with the beautiful cross strings ?

Prentice Sun 21-Aug-22 16:34:46

I have never had a garment that I felt $ of any amount in sad to say.
that is ok for me though as I have never liked to be looked at.

Kate1949 Sun 21-Aug-22 16:40:08

I used to feel a million dollars in everything when I was a young woman. Especially in the '60s. I was tall and slim, just the right shape for '60s fashions. Sadly not now. Hey ho. Comes to us all.

Auntieflo Sun 21-Aug-22 16:51:49

On our wedding day.
Then, shortly afterwards, at Christmas, went to mum and dad's, dressed up, and my brother's face was a picture.
I did scrub up well, when I was much younger and slimmer.

Jaxjacky Sun 21-Aug-22 17:01:18

Not a million dollars, but making the effort for a lunch out with friends I resisted my normal jeans or shorts. As I only possess one smart dress (the others are long hippy loose things), which is really for winter, I bought this.
It felt quite lovely much to my surprise, I need to find another reason to wear it before summer is done.

FannyCornforth Sun 21-Aug-22 17:08:59

That does look really nice Jacky
You are very elegant

Kate1949 Sun 21-Aug-22 17:20:26

I love that Jacky.

I remember Galen used to post pics of her cruise outfits and she always looked very glam. With ? Bellasnonna
