Cultural teatowels (totally frivolous)

Those school tea towels with the stick figures are priceless! I still have a couple. Many years ago we ran a competition for the children to draw the school dog for inclusion and the chosen item still makes me smile teary eyed.
As do others, I like tea towels from different parts of the country and abroad.

Years ago my auntie always sent tea towels at Christmas - really nice ones, so nice, I didn’t want to use them and I have a collection in the cupboard. Also a couple of advertising ones such as for Lymeswold Cheese (remember that?!)

I have a couple of the school tea towels, now well washed and soft.

I have some favourites that I reach for every time, it’s funny how you can get attached to a bit of cloth! One of my favourites disappeared but recently made a reappearance. In my daughter’s house.

I have an older one than 1972, it’s the new decimal currency, 1971.

And a ‘30 years of Coronation Street 1960-1990’.

I have the decimal currency one. It must have come from MiL.

I also have several of the school fund raising ones with the children's artwork. I appear on a few from when I as a classroom TA. They were in a box for years but now they are washed and in a drawer. I use them to cover food when it's too hot for the fridge.

The cricket club kitchen has a fantastic collection of tea towels. Lots of unwanted gift ones end up down there.

I like nice tea towels and have some good ones. The Irish one my granddaughter sent me: my British Birds one, etc. I've often bought them on holiday as souvenirs.

I’m a sucker for tea towels generally. We don’t have a dishwasher so the tea towel is used several times a day.
I invariably come back from holiday with several.
I prefer them to ornaments.

I like to buy a towel when I am on holiday. Always one with pictures of the area. A boring task like drying up is
helped along by the memories on the towel.

Is it true that 100% Irish linen teatowels are very hard to find now? I always considered them the best of all and still have some which are almost transparent. I use them for drying food like potatoes for chips or fresh fish, rinsed under the tap. The certainly don't exist here in Italy and the cotton quality here is often very poor as well.

My mum has one with the 'We are survivors' poem on it - she points to it whenever anyone moans about not being able to get their preferred type of bread etc!

My MiL had tea towels for every occasion, so the Christmas ones would come out half way through December, Easter whenever that arrived and one for each child's birthday through the year. Kept us all on track!

I’ve stopped ironing mine, too! They will still just about fit in the drawer if nicely folded.

I've got a cotton bag with a 5 year old DGD's self-portrait on it.

Yes, some of the tea towels are from an unused collection of MIL's, many still unused, a few I've collected or been given.

A journey up the River Thames, Royal Jubilee 2021, map of New Zealand (handy if the satnav fails), decimal coins, flags of the United Nations, various cityscapes.

A couple of ones with Irish poems were well-used as was a recipe for an alcoholic lemon drink given by a friend from Italy.

I did have one with self-portraits of DD and all her Y6 classmates but I must have put it somewhere safe.

Royal Jubilee 2012, not 2021

Annsixty I too have those, though they are from the school where I work. Just seeing the name and picture brings the children back to mind.
My favourites are one with French Cheeses, one with French Wine regions and two from Oz with pictures from the Gippsland Lakes area.
