I’ve got to do this today.
My Bank Holiday Treat

Apparently, you are supposed to clean the pipes (?) every six months or so, to keep it working effectively and cost efficiently.

I had no idea.
I mentioned it to my dad, he didn’t either.

Do you regularly do this?
I’m dreading to think what is behind the blooming thing.
The freezer isn’t working properly so it much be done

Bleurgh

Thanks for that, I never gave it a thought. The minor problem is how do I move it to reach the rear?

sodapop Mon 29-Aug-22 12:43:28

It is dangerous to move your fridge freezer alone Charleygirl they can so easily topple over. Please take care don't want your next post to be from A & E.

FannyCornforth Mon 29-Aug-22 12:47:02

Thanks sodapop, I hadn’t thought of that.
I was just going to try and slide it out at 45 degree angle and poke an attachment behind it ?

FC’s tip puts Charleygirl in hospital! shock

Jaberwok Mon 29-Aug-22 12:52:10

shock

Charleygirl5 Mon 29-Aug-22 12:54:47

Thanks for that!

Galaxy Mon 29-Aug-22 12:56:15

Dont. I scratched my new kitchen floor doing that sad

tanith Mon 29-Aug-22 12:57:03

I couldn’t move mine if I tried for a week.

Charleygirl5 Mon 29-Aug-22 13:03:18

I probably could but it is tall with every cleaning liquid known to man taking pride of place on the top.

Jaxjacky Mon 29-Aug-22 13:11:04

Never done it and they’ve always been fine in 40 years or so, ours is integrated anyway so no chance.

Shinamae Mon 29-Aug-22 13:16:21

My fridge freezer is about three years old,I’ve never hoovered behind it and have no intention of doing so as it would be quite a job to get it out its position…

M0nica Mon 29-Aug-22 13:17:47

Bought my first freezer in 1973. Since then I have owned a succession of freezers and never cleaned the back of any of them even once.

Even when they are moved for replacement every 15 years or so, the back neer looks particulalry dusty or dirty.

Despite this recommendation, I intend to continue not to clean them.

Pittcity Mon 29-Aug-22 13:20:15

I can just about squeeze a feather duster behind mine....yuk!

FannyCornforth Mon 29-Aug-22 13:20:15

I’m not entirely sure if it was a ‘recommendation’ as such Monica!
It’s just that my freezer isn’t getting cold enough to freeze, and every internet search suggests that I do it.
It’s about four years old

Pittcity Mon 29-Aug-22 13:21:05

Apparently it can save on running costs too.

Elizabeth27 Mon 29-Aug-22 13:25:04

Not sure it is possible with an integrated fridge freezer.

Pittcity Mon 29-Aug-22 13:34:11

An integrated unit would not have as much accumulated dust though.

mokryna Mon 29-Aug-22 13:45:06

Mine’s intergrated, no doubt there is dust there but I can’t get to it. Another thing to worry about.
I had vacuumed everywhere before going away for three weeks only to come back and see a ball of fluff on the parquet. I mean how did it get there?

Elizabeth27 Mon 29-Aug-22 13:45:16

Good point, had started to think it would not last as long.

I would go back to the supplier as this doesn’t sound fit for purpose. A freezer should last much longer than 4 years

I've done mine once in a blue moon but with a soft brush rather than a vacuum cleaner.

FannyCornforth it sounds as if your freezer could be losing gas or have a problem with the compressor. Is it under extended warranty?

We had a very troublesome freezer which fortunately had a 5 year warranty from JL but it took a lot of protracted negotiations, several repairs before we could get a replacement. It started going wrong after a few months and was a good make too.

Callistemon21 Mon 29-Aug-22 15:40:41

It could be a potential hazard if the freezer temperature is not minus 18C

Thank you Callistemon
Fortunately I clocked that there was a problem before anything awful happened.
It appeared that things were freezing, but they were ‘frozen’ because everything was packed in.
It was only when I tried to freeze some ice cubes that I realised that it wasn’t right.
I had to bin a load of stuff.
Which included some fish pies, which could potentially have been an absolute disaster if we had eaten them.
I honestly dread to think.
It was very lucky really.

Callistemon21 Mon 29-Aug-22 16:03:33

Minus 18C is the correct temperature for normal use, turn it up to minus 24C, I think, if you're freezing more than a couple of fresh things.
We've got fridge and freezer thermometers.
