I love Gransnet, but read more often than post. You can always find useful information, fun, sympathy, so many things on the forums. I also understand the preference for anonymity, but as legalities, customs etc vary so much from Country to Country, wouldn't it be a good idea to include the Country in the Poster's information? Nothing more specific, just UK, FR, AUS for example. It wouldn't identify the poster, but would indicate if advice etc given was relevant to where the OP is located. It would also be interesting to see how different the responses are depending on which Country you are from.

Ilovecheese

I am not sure about this idea. There was a somewhat hysterical and deeply unpleasant post on the thread about Meghan Markle towards an American poster. Responses like those may put off others from giving that information.

Just to say, that was one person, and when someone shows discrimination against a country or race then other grans quickly step up and give them a telling off. I don't think anyone need worry about their country being shown. But if that is deemed a problem then maybe give people the option of showing it? In your profile you could say yes or no.

Not many have answered the question of the OP which is wouldn't it be a good idea to include the country in the poster's information. In fact about 15 out of 52 have answered so far. I'm afraid the title of the thread has misled them.

I have a vague idea that posters' on the Good morning thread used to mention their location. Am I right in thinking that? To answer the OP., yes I think it's helpful and interesting to have an idea of where posters' live. But, if a poster prefers not to say, that's fine.

Kent. I agree it could be useful to know, particularly the sort of questions which usually result in the answer visit a Solicitor.

I like the anonymity of GN, so I don’t want to say exactly where I live as I’m a very private person, but suffice it to say I live in England. It would be interesting to know in which country other Gransnetters are living. I agree though, that kindness and empathy to others contributors should be universal. By the way, I love Gransnet and the range of subjects that crop up. I’ve been a member of GN since the summer of 2020 and it was quite a bit of a lifeline during the lockdowns and aftermaths of lockdowns. Thank you everyone for giving me a great deal of pleasure and information. I look at GN most days and always find something of interest.

gossamerbeynon, I would have guessed your place: I flirted with pollygarter as my GN name....

You could have your countries flag next to your name

Flags, though pretty, are not as clear as abbreviations. For example NZ is not open to confusion but the NZ flag most certainly is.

Interesting how many people do not read the OP before adding their irrelevant tuppence worth.
Nancat I wholeheartedly agree. Some members don't think to tell us where they are located when it is hugely relevant to the discussion. Often it is not necessary to know but sometimes it is.
I suggest you report your post (which ensures gransnet HQ read it), state that this is your post and you would appreciate it if GNHQ considers your suggestion.

Welcome Poppyjo. I am from Melbourne, eastern suburbs. Melbourne is very sprawly, covers 100s of kilometres and many different small towns. Where in NZ are you?

Hello ? Poppyjo!
We are never completely alone with Gransnet... there is always a kind and/ or helpful response. ?

Poppyjo Sat 03-Sept-22 00:17:01

New Zealand. Sometimes I get very lonely. I find reading gransnet gives me a sense of belonging. So many of us in the same boat. I don’t agree with all opinions of course but I respect other Grans right to state theirs.

Love this site . Thank you everyone for being there
