Saw the thread earlier about favourite film and just wondered which is the best gig/concert you have been to. Mine is Queen at Knebworth, closely followed by Michael Jackson at Wembley and Cardiff, though in fairness MJ was more of a show than a concert.

Isle of Wight 1970- no contest!

I saw The Who perform Tommy at the Manchester University Students Union.

Oh I wish I had seen Queen, and David Bowie. Absolute legends...

I've not been to many gigs/concerts but Dr Hook at Wembley were brilliant and so entertaining and Alice Cooper way back when was an experience never to forget!

Michael Jackson’s Dangerous concert at Wembley stadium was wonderful. I remember crying all the way through it. Stunning.

Freddy Mercury Tribute, 1992, Wembley Stadium. David Bowie and Annie Lennox singing Under Pressure was my stand out.

I love gigs, have been to lots but my favourite ever was Bryan Ferry 1977 at DeMontfort Hall in Leicester. I wish I’d seen Oasis in their heyday.

It would have to be the first time I saw The Beatles at Hammersmith Odeon. I think The Yardbirds were the support act so we got Eric Clapton too!

I went to an antiapartheid concert at The Festival Hall in the late 60s. One of the acts couldn't appear (he'd just been jailed in America) and the substitute they brought on was Sammy Davis Jr. Absolutely incredible! My mum was so jealous!

I've been to quite a few. Among the best are Rolling Stones and the Who.

Probably the best was a free concert in Hyde Park with Pink Floyd

Live Aid has to be mine despite having seen my idol Eric Clapton more than 100 times.

I saw The Kinks The Fortunes & Screaming Lord Sutch at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin in 1965, brilliant.

Fleurpepper - I was at the Isle of Wight in 1970 too. I was only 17 and had to beg my parents to let me go. More recently, when younger son was at Manchester University we went to see Faithless twice. Another standout was when Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) played in Oxford with John Mayall. Green had recently started appearing in public again after a breakdown. It was brilliant

The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park.

Fleurpepper Mon 05-Sept-22 21:40:28

Ladyleftfieldflower, it was amazing - I was just 19. But there was quite a few of us, so not sure I remember you - about 550.000 lol

HowVeryDareYou Mon 05-Sept-22 21:44:58

Rolling Stones, Wembley, 1990 (I think)
Queen (sadly, not with Freddie but they had the fantastic Paul Rodgers fronting them), Nottingham, a few years ago

avitorl Mon 05-Sept-22 21:53:49

Going back in time I saw Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran together in Liverpool.Sadly Eddie was killed in a car crash not long afterwards. They were both magic.

Kate1949 Mon 05-Sept-22 22:41:55

I've been to so many. Beatles 5 times, no one will surpass them for me. Rolling Stones twice, Kinks, Tom Jones, Roy Orbison, many more
The best were Tony Bennett and Michael Buble.

Hellogirl1 Mon 05-Sept-22 22:44:00

There have been so many, it`s hard to pick just one, but the 3 Classical Spectaculars at the Royal Albert Hall were fantastic, wish I could have gone to them all.

bridie54 Mon 05-Sept-22 22:47:00

Without a doubt Paul Simon on his farewell tour in Glasgow.
Also saw him with Sting in Glasgow, again an excellent night. Both within the last few years, can't remember exactly when.

1970 Pink Floyd Hyde Park

Another here for the Beatles at Hammersmith Odeon and also at a TV special called Around the Beatles (saw them close up there! Biggest thrill of my life).

I could never cope with large crowds like Wembley, but saw Tina Turner in the 1980s (1,500 seating so not too large).
