Saw the thread earlier about favourite film and just wondered which is the best gig/concert you have been to. Mine is Queen at Knebworth, closely followed by Michael Jackson at Wembley and Cardiff, though in fairness MJ was more of a show than a concert.

Queen and Fleetwood Mac. Can'tsay which was the better. Both absolutely amazing

I was there too Was a bit fed up as girls were screaming so loudly I couldn’t hear the music !

The Beatles at the Odeon in Brum, wonderful. Also Bon Jovi but can’t remember if it was Milton Keynes.

Beatles, Stones & Billy Joel aside,
The BEST must be Frank Sinatra at Sanctuary Cove, Queensland in 1987 or 88.
Support was Whitney Houston, compere was an almost speechless Clive James.
I think I win!

Adele in Auckland, New Zealand. I wasn’t really a fan at the start but that completely changed by the end of the concert!

Rolling Stones in Stockton in 196? I actually went to see John Leyton & Mike Sarne - they were great, but the Stones blew me away!

deejay I think I win! grin

At an insider addiction fundraiser, small venue - Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Andy Fairweather-Low, Gary Brooker ... and then they announced that "we have a friend here from across the Pond" and on strolled Joe Walsh, and picked up a guitar. I rest my case.

Neil Young in Manchester, about 10 years ago. Not sure of exact date. And Judas Priest in Leicester in about 1978.

Fleetwood Mac Fairfield Halls 1972ish before any female members. Fantastic. A few hits then rock and roll for the rest of the concert

Any of the loads of Status Quo gigs I have been to. Cant pick a favourite but any of the Hammersmith Odeon gigs were probably the best! Best band in the world sooo miss Rick but Rossi still with us!

The Beatles in 1963 at The Colston Hall in Bristol….(not called “Colston” now of course.)
Also Isle of Wight festival 1970 ….FAB

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) without a shadow of a doubt.

I've seen them 13 times in all and nobody, but nobody, can replicate Andy's dying fly dance to Maid of Orleans. Wow!

Roxy Music and David Bowie (some venue in London!) stand out but the absolute best was Blondie (London again!) as Debbie Harry was my idol. I am amused to say I copied her look as far as I could, to the extent of having my chestnut hair dyed platinum and cut in her style! Happy days!

Barbra Streisand with IL Divo in Ireland which was absolutely fantastic. Sitting outside of a Manor House in the rain watching her with a 58 piece orchestra and then at the end her husband James Brolin came onstage with her gorgeous dog. I also saw her a couple of years later in Canada.,
Fantastic memories….

Janis Ian and Tom Paxton at the Liverpool Philharmonic 2014. Janis Ian in Manchester on two occasions, and once in Sheffield.

CliffRichard at Blickling Hall

Don’t any of you go to classical concerts? My best one was Britten’s War Requiem in 1966.

I feel it’s a bit out of place here, though.

Chrisks Thu 08-Sept-22 12:04:49

Pop idol with Will, Gareth and the lovely late Darius.
Take That.

Bluecat Thu 08-Sept-22 12:22:00

Saw Simon & Garfunkel at the Albert Hall and the following year in Manchester, and they were very good. This was back in the '60s but my daughter saw Paul Simon more recently in the States, including his farewell tour, and said that he was still excellent. More than she could say for Bob Dylan, unfortunately, who was a sad disappointment. I also saw Leonard Cohen, around 1970, and he was very good too. Paul, Bob and Leonard were always my idols.

But if I had to pick anyone else, I would say Metallica. We saw them at Earls Court and they were superb.

I’ve been to ( and sung in) loads. Mahler 8 in Brunswick was exceptional, but I think the atmosphere is usually a wee bit more subdued at classical concerts.
Our Brunswick concert was a Sunday afternoon, and I was struck by how well dressed the audience was, definitely dressed in their Sunday best!

Debbie was, and still is, one of my idols too. I was lucky enough to see Blondie live several times in their heyday and she was always absolutely amazing. She still is.
