As I am sitting in the South of France covered in mosquito bites, make up sliding off my face and feeling in need of another shower an hour after the last one!

It got me to thinking about my winter boots, cashmere jumpers, casseroles, sweeping leaves, peat fires, mash potatoes and long walks..

What are you looking forward to?

Let’s keep this one positive…..no mention of fuel bills please?

I enjoy all seasons, but there is something magical about autumn.

After the long hot summer it’s akin to pulling up the metaphorical drawbridge.

Art and crafting with deep colours and different textures. Even messy pumpkin carving.
Wool jackets and scarves.

karmalady Tue 06-Sept-22 10:39:20

Oooh definitely autumn and the long shutdown as I get into hibernating cosiness. Out come the indoor hobbies, spinning on my wheel with a good film on tv. The hot drinks that don`t bring me out in a cooling sweat. A jigsaw laid out on my dining table.

I absolutely love wild winter weather, wind, rain and even the cold. If I had to live in either a permanently hot country or a permanently cold country I would definitely choose the latter…

kittylester Tue 06-Sept-22 10:41:48

What gg said.
Drawing the curtains, eating comforting meals, Strictly!!

teabagwoman Tue 06-Sept-22 10:45:17

Soups and stews, no salads. Drawn curtains, Strictly, little gardening to do.

FannyCornforth Tue 06-Sept-22 11:14:49

Oh heavens, I absolutely love Autumn.
The very best thing is that it’s the end of Summer.
I’m going to ♥️ this thread.
Thank you Sago

All of the above and,
Autumn smells, fresh air, walks by the sea with waves crashing, back to a cosy wood burner with a stew simmering in the slow cooker. Oh to be in England, now that autumns there! ?????

Greenfinch Tue 06-Sept-22 12:37:25

I love the dark mornings so that when I wake up in the early hours I have some chance of getting back to sleep.

Nannagarra Tue 06-Sept-22 12:46:21

The end of insect bites, leaves changing colour, the silhouettes of trees without leaves, noting next year’s buds, dampness in the air, the smell of fires and other people’s log burners, ‘winter’ meals in the slow cooker, three family birthdays.

Calendargirl Tue 06-Sept-22 12:48:36

I’m sure many on here will say ‘Strictly’.

nadateturbe Tue 06-Sept-22 12:59:20

Candles in the hearth.

I am looking forward to weather like you have Sago. An autumn holiday in the sun. A warm sea to swim in and only 3 weeks to wait. The first time we have needed a passport since summer 2018.
After that I will be looking forward to a gentle winter and then spring. Maybe Strictly too grin

Beechnut Tue 06-Sept-22 13:01:40

That sounds wonderful Ginster. ?

toscalily Tue 06-Sept-22 13:16:48

Watching the trees turn colour, walking through the leaves on a dry day and hearing that lovely swishy noise, wearing a jumper or tunic in thicker material which hides the waist that is not as it was, a good warming casserole, lots of candles & strictly.

Kim19 Tue 06-Sept-22 13:19:49

Autumn is total eye candy for me. Rather beautiful in general. However, it is also the last stepping stone to Winter which I totally abhor. Mmmmm..........

Ashcombe Tue 06-Sept-22 13:23:14

An unusual one from me: I'm due to have heart surgery to repair my mitral heart valve within the next couple of months so I'm looking for ward to a new lease of life as I recover and expect to have more energy.

MawtheMerrier Tue 06-Sept-22 13:25:57

Oh yes, Sago
Soups, boots, snuggly jumpers (which hide a multitude of sins) justifying my cashmere habit (“saves on leccy”), no obligation to expose any flesh whatsoever, autumn colours and stews ?
But…..I wish we could still have lighter evenings. The days are so quickly over, the evenings are longer and when you are widowed, Winters can be very very long indeed!

Nanna58 Tue 06-Sept-22 13:26:17

All the best to you Ashcombe ?

shysal Tue 06-Sept-22 13:38:42

I am not a fan of autumn as it heralds winter. I prefer spring and summer when I can enjoy my garden. However, I am looking forward to seeing my Amarine bulbs flower. They are new this year and there is no sign of buds yet, but I hope they will be spectacular.

lixy Tue 06-Sept-22 13:39:05

Cinnamon buns, elderberry cordial, all those warming spices that smell and taste so good.
Ashcombe hope it all goes really well for you.

MerylStreep Tue 06-Sept-22 13:46:28

Shysal
It’s not unusual for them not to flower the first year.

Sara1954 Tue 06-Sept-22 13:59:35

Funny isn’t it how we suddenly flip to autumn.
The last few. evenings I’ve been lighting lamps and candles, and soon it’ll be the fire, I love autumn (apart from ?) but I hate winter.
I’m looking forward to Strictly, like so many of you, snuggling up on the sofa with my granddaughter, watching her awful TV programs, hot chocolate, NT walks , bonfire night and Halloween, it’s just a cosier time of year.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 06-Sept-22 14:00:53

We went out cycling on a trail yesterday and noted how so many leaves had fallen, even saw some conkers on the ground. It was such a lovely day and I just love it. At home I look forward to lighting the wood burner, spending time doing a jigsaw puzzle laid out on the dining table, taking up dressmaking again, the spare room is all ready with my sewing stuff and some lovely cycle rides. I also like winter but by mid Feb I getting excited about spring. This winter will be a lot better for me as I won’t be worrying about my daughter having falls, not having the heating on and having a 4 hours round trip to see her and sort things out. A lot less stress
