Not a thread about a thread

No it’s not a thread about a particular thread but in the last few days we ve had two threads removed, people with stories wanting either advice or sympathy or both
One was fairly obviously the other not so much and it involved a lot of people giving heartfelt feelings and well thought out advice taking time and effort to offer links organisations to help etc it could have involved posters empathising by offering their own stories I don’t think it did

This post is mainly to help new member or those that don’t post much who may think we re a hard lot
We aren’t a hard lot but we do need to make sure we are not taken advantage of and taken the ‘p’ out of

Just be aware some people do seem to get a kick out of doing this

This is not a thread about a thread was my title of choice because it is a discussion about threads in general dorothy
I personally don’t understand the rule from HQ or why they seem to believe we are not clever enough to make our own decisions as to what to discuss
I see no good reason we can’t discuss problems within threads how else do we learn, it has always seemed very heavy handed
to me
I believe there were two very nasty ones a few years back Jennifer and really affected some posters and to be honest instead of smacking wrists for things like discussing threads admin should have looked at those suspicious threads much sooner warning bells had been raised by posters but they went on for a long time That is why I started this thread and thankfully I think we ve had a sensible discussion so far

I guess I am either a bit naive or believe in the best of people. To me both posts seemed real enough, but it seems to me that some here assumes it is put on for entertainment, then others join in and ridicule the poster. It just seems mean spirited to me.

There was recently a discussion about this site being a bit bullying, and I admit I am starting to see it. I still maintain that if you have no helpful info to give, or interesting conversation to engage in, then just don’t comment. Some of these posts turn into attacks of the OP. no wonder they don’t return.

Sometimes ( quite often) I feel suspicious of certain threads but then, as others say, your answers may help someone else in genuine need. If they are sick enough to make stuff up then they probably do need help but of a different kind!

I couldn't agree more. The way some speak to others is often rude and belittling. There are about 4 or 5 who do it regularly.
