Waiting for a call from the Labour ward….

My daughter-in-law’s waters broke last night and she’s been having contractions, on and off, all day. We’re taking care of the dog, the other grandparents have our granddaughter…..and we’re all on tenterhooks hoping that baby puts in an appearance overnight.

It’s been a difficult year with many family members having serious health issues, so we’re all looking forward to the joy that a new baby brings.

Is anyone else in line to be a granny before the year’s end? This little chap will be my tenth.

?Let us know.
Wondering if Elizabeth will make a come back as a little girls name.

It's my middle name and I was born in 1952 - but before the king died unexpectedly, so not sure if they were thinking of Princess Elizabeth.

My goodness I remember that call. It came 15 years ago and I was on the next plane up to them ( after waiting to be asked of course) I was SO excited I managed to fall while getting in a friends car and went rolling down her very steep hill getting very wet and muddy in the process. At the airport my ankle was so swollen I had to ask them to let me leave that boot on going through security.
On the plane I opened a bottle of fizzy water and most of fhe contents shot all over me and the poor folk sitting near me. The air hostess came over and looked at the dishevelled woman in the seat. She asked if I was ok. I can remember looking up at her and saying "I've just become a Grandma !" as if that explained everything !
All the very best for the safe arrival of your brand new Grandchild. xx

I've gained two new grandsons this year, youngest only two weeks old. I've now got 3 of each ,love being a Granny. When the eldest one this year was born, he could easily have been born enroute or at home. My DILs waters broke and hospital told her not to go in until frequent painful contractions. She rang in several times to tell them they were getting very painful and close together but was told to stay home. So glad my son just drove her in. They live 20 miles away on country roads and she only just made it in time

Congratulations to you all. xxx

Nearly choked on my coffee laughing at albertina's post (13-34)!

Congratulations to all new grans here- some dramatic births in our family too. Daughter's 2nd was born on bedroom floor, delivered by her husband.

I hope story of birth kept low key in the family. DH ot keen to be haunted, as he was, by story of how he was born into.a commode.

OP

Congrats!

I hope dil gave you permission to post the story online

welbeck Mon 12-Sept-22 14:56:34

but there is nothing revealing as to identity, could be anyone, or even no one at all in real life, another budding author.
so i don't see the harm.
also loved albertina's story. so vivid.

Hithere Mon 12-Sept-22 15:01:25

Because it was experienced by another person that is not the OP?

It is also medically related

Rosina Mon 12-Sept-22 15:02:09

I do wonder why medical staff seem so reluctant to listen to the patient, who surely knows best about how she feels? One close friend was forced to eat a cheese salad by a bossy Sister, who told her she wouldn't have her baby for hours yet and must have her lunch; twenty minutes later her daughter was born, and she had the satisfaction of being violently sick all over the Sister's shoes. Another friend gave birth to a boy, and was being wheeled back to the ward from the labour room, protesting that she was still in pain and something wasn't right - she was ignored, and promptly gave birth to a girl a few minutes later in the maternity ward.

happycatholicwife1 Mon 12-Sept-22 17:50:36

Blessings on all!

Justhavingacuppa Mon 12-Sept-22 17:55:08

Congratulations!!
We welcomed our grandson, our first grandchild, at the beginning of July.
If I’d have known how marvellous having grandchildren was, I’d have had them first ??

Candelle Mon 12-Sept-22 18:07:03

Many congratulations on your new grandson. You seem as thrilled with your tenth as your first and doubtless he will be a lucky little boy to have you as his grandma!

Candelle Mon 12-Sept-22 18:12:28

GraceQuirrel, I am sure that this is not the place or time for your comment.

If you wish, please start another thread where there can be an open and frank discussion on this topic but please leave the OP to enjoy the obvious very welcome news of a new addition to her family.

LauraNorderr Mon 12-Sept-22 19:06:45

Congratulations GrannyActivist and family. Lovely to hear some good news and a funny little story too, although undoubtedly not amusing at the time.
Hope they don’t call him Looie!

LauraNorderr Mon 12-Sept-22 19:08:12

Justhavingacuppa, made me chuckle.

tictacnana Mon 12-Sept-22 19:26:51

I. had no grandchildren and then two within 12 hours ...and they weren’t twins. Both daughters had babies - 12 hours apart - on the same ward. Unbeknown to them, their cars were parked side by side in the car park. An exciting day ! Hope all goes well. X

sodapop Mon 12-Sept-22 19:33:02

Congratulations to all of you, the baby is happy & healthy despite his dramatic arrival, hope your daughter in law is recovered now as well.

Oldnproud Mon 12-Sept-22 19:45:10

GraceQuirrel

I have to ask in all honesty, who would want to bring a baby into the world these days? Just think what might be inflicted on that child in an already overpopulated world. I think it’s quite selfish if I’m honest.

Would you say that in 'real life' to someone who has just told you that they become a parent or a grandparent? hmm

Sago Mon 12-Sept-22 20:29:44

GraceQuitrel Is out for a fight (like a lot of posters today!) Let’s not give her one.

acornlady Mon 12-Sept-22 21:17:39

Our DDIL and DD are due on 24 November and 6 December respectively. Our DS and DDIL already have a little boy so very quickly we are going from 1 DGC to 3. I can't wait.
