Why should they jump the queue

I have just read that David Beckham turned down an invitation from an MP who can take up to 4 guests and jump the long queue for the Queen’s Lying in State.

Firstly, well done to DB and the other celebrities who queued and secondly, it seems very unfair that these people are given this ‘privilege’ when the majority of people are queuing in the cold and dark for many hours. We were all subjects of Her Majesty.

The elderly and disabled are rightly given a fast track, but these are able bodied people .

I was pleased to see that David Beckham queued with everyone else and am even more pleased to hear that he turned down a chance of jumping the queue.

Apart from security concerns for a few people, everyone should join the queue. Surely it's part of the whole experience, a bit like being on a pilgrimage. Being rushed in ahead of everyone else largely defeats the purpose of going.

Good for David Beckham obviously not a selfish person just queued like everyone else.

Why there isn’t a booking system is beyond me.

karmalady Sat 17-Sept-22 09:09:58

The MPs should spend their time working for us and not standing in a queue, however I am completely anti every guest being issued with 4 visitor tickets

I do agree with septima. standing in the queue must really be almost like being on a pilgrimage and just going straight in and nodding at the coffin is pretty well nothing much

Adam Hills on Last Leg, last night. I paraphrase.

People who support a hereditary monarchy are getting upset that other people are being treated with privilege because of who they are and who they know.

Oh, the irony. This is the kind of society we are.

Also, most of us haven't been subjects since 1983. We're citizens.

eazybee Sat 17-Sept-22 09:58:09

Not at all concerned at being called a subject, particularly when the late queen signed herself as 'Your servant, Elizabeth.'

timetogo2016 Sat 17-Sept-22 10:02:16

Sorry, but David Beckham will do anything to get a Knighthood.
And i don`t think anyone should jump the queue,we are all equal.

Subjects?

Subjects?

Better than serfs, I suppose.

kircubbin2000 Sat 17-Sept-22 10:19:44

Phil and Holly are too important to queue.?

I’m not sure if Pip could handle the disconnect between his own perception of his popularity with the GB public, and the reality of it.

As it says in my passport.

I've tried to point that out several times, volver but people seem to prefer to think of themselves as subjects.

The only reason I can think of is that it's one more thing to complain about. Where would we be if we couldn't complain?

I do not think that so-called celebrities should be allowed to queue jump. I thought we were all equal but I now realise some are more equal than others.

I actually admire David Beckham for queuing- I thought it was his wife who wanted the honours.

I knighted him on the other thread, Charleygirl

Even though he did play for Man United.

Who is Pip?

Georgesgran Sat 17-Sept-22 11:22:56

Philip Schofield is Pip,

Sassanach512 Sat 17-Sept-22 11:34:39

Good on David Beckham for queueing with the crowd but I'd have been even more impressed if Victoria had queued with him...I know, it's a big ask wink

Not in those shoes

No-one should jump the queue unless very elderly or with disabled cert. If they can't queue, don't go.

Agree with you entirely, karmalady. Let the MPs have a quick look and a nod and then get back to the drawing board to sort out the mess we are all in.

As for David Beckham, he's very lovely but I do wonder why such a good looking man would cover himself in awful tattoos. Leave it now, David, you've got more than enough.

volver Sat 17-Sept-22 11:53:50

I've decided to call it the Markle Observation.

Celebrity x queued with everyone else: He just wants a knighthood!

Celebrity x jumped the queue: Who does he think he is, does he think he's better than the rest of us?

?

David Beckham such a gentleman imo.Philip & Holly just 3rd rate celebrities and of no importance at all.
