Surely it wasn't put on a 9 year old's school record? A gentle chat would have been in order.

However, as every 9 year old girl knows, boys are aliens.

Oops, is that non pc?

If we were that school you would now have that put on your record for the rest of your life.

We are not so you are safe.

I wasn't referring to your post Maggiemaybe

I know, Callistemon. smile

Yes it was wrong but he needed guidance not punishment. He is still young and still learning so will make mistakes.

^All he needed was someone to explain to him why it wasn’t the best thing to have said ….blooming ridiculous^

Yes, I agree. He's probably heard the phrase somewhere and was showing off. But he's 9, and to get the highest sanction the school offers for this, and have it forever on his record, is way too harsh.

Yes, far too harsh. That report will follow him throughout his school life.

Oh dear, sense of humour failure.

I am the mother and grandmother of boys ?

This is like saying - boys will be boys

Even aliens can behave w/o putting anyone down

Still unacceptable

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not a wind up sounds about right for one

Callistemon21 Sat 17-Sept-22 14:41:38

Although just looked and is not a new poster. Am going to stop now as have accidentally started troll hunting across sites which is surreal. I dont like troll hunting and will end up having to report myself.

Galaxy

It's a wind up thread in my view.

I thought that too

Yes. MN has been having problems with little people with wild hair just lately, apparently.

This post made clear what was wrong with the boy's comment :

The punishment seems harsh but the phrase is very misogynistic. It's used as an insult. Being beaten by a girl is more humiliating because girls are obviously less good at things than boys and boys should beat them.

His mother is not a true feminist, obviously

This is not even a micro agression

Yes, we do have some embedded sexist statements in all languages but

The fact that the parents think the school overreacted is the main problem and parents do not recognized how it is demeaning to women

Well done for school - 10/10 for me

I’m not sure if cross referencing threads is a good idea.
I (we?) would not like it if it happened t’other way round

No problem.

I’m just surprised that the little lad said it, his mum being a feminist ( her words)
Surely he’d been raised to understand that both sexes are equal and therefore not make that comment.
But once again teachers have gone right over the top.

I was horrified to hear what this school had done to this boy, but lots of Mumsnetters seem to think it is fine.

What do you think?
