Pj wearers taking children to school,

I live in a town, and was walking out at 8am to pick up some shopping, and while I have heard that some mums do this I’ve never actually seen it, but there in front of me three mums in full pjs walking along with their children quite happy, no coats, I felt overdressed I must admit!

It does matter what parents wear to take their children to school. After all you won’t find the teachers in their pyjamas. Nightwear is for night time. Onesies are for babies and young children.

MissAdventure Fri 23-Sept-22 14:38:18

Because the teachers are at work.
I know several who wear pjs to take their own children to school.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Sept-22 14:44:38

In all honesty I was often surprised that I got the right children at the right school with all their relevant accoutrements. Even on the day when there was a teacher training day and they shouldn’t have been there ???? (they will never let me forget that one)

In hindsight I have no idea how I coped, or indeed how our business survived

GrannyGravy you deserve a medal!

Oh I do love a thread about loungewear/pj's/any other early morning attire.

Several weeks since the last one.

Also - Queen's funeral, royal family, if Charles and Camilla are tired.

How good it is in this world of economic crisis, war in Ukraine, nuclear threats from Putin, catastrophic floods in Pakistan and climate change, that stressing about what other people wear on the school run can still feature in anybody’s thinking. hmmhmm

I meant to quote Maw.

It's good for our mental health to worry about the small stuff as it takes our minds off the big stuff. Who wants to think about all those massive worries when we can think about mums in pyjamas, Harry & Meghan, what's on TV, and the best way to sort through old photos. These things keep us sane.

Height of laziness and I can't believe people are makung excuses for them
No excuse for not getting dressed.
I grew up in a really poor, deprived area. Our parents managed to get dressed in the mornings somehow.

MissAdventure Fri 23-Sept-22 15:43:54

There are all sorts of excuses, if anyone feels the need to excuse what they do, or how they choose to present.

I go around in kaftans all the time - including going out (rarely done and always by car or taxi). I just throw a coat on top. I cant remember the last time I got dressed in "proper" clothes. However I dont wear any clothes in bed and always have a shower when I wake up. At 78 I dont give a dogs damn what anyone thinks. Ive made my contribution to the community.

GrannyGravy, I usually organised the children and dogs before driving the children to school, then off to work in my suit because formal wear needed.
One morning, I had to be in very early. No probs mr I would take the children, then aged about 7 and 8 His work base was 15 miles away. He was half way there before he remembered the children were still in his car. They’d remained unusually quiet and laughed all the way back.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Sept-22 16:24:19

Iam64 how funny ?

Blondiescot Fri 23-Sept-22 16:26:14

I'd never do it myself, and I do find it the height of laziness, but I'd never judge anyone in public for doing it. I suppose too that a lot of 'loungewear' nowadays is almost like a cross between pyjamas and outdoor wear (like tracksuits, if you know what I mean), so you could wear them indoors or out.

I’ve noticed trouser and jacket suits in Zara made out of fabric that could be for nightwear. Like every other item if clothing, covered in noisy colourful pattern. It looks like fashion following rather than setting the trend.
I do put the bin out in my night wear but I’d never do the school run or walk the dogs in my pj’s. I’d feel far too vulnerable walking the dogs in the park in pj’s. Too many incidents of men exposing themselves there

biglouis Fri 23-Sept-22 16:35:05

I rarely go out except by car/taxi door to door. So I asked my nephew if he ever sees people out in their PJs. He confessed its a regular sight in Azda. He tends to go in the evening when its quieter. Does that mean the shoppers he sees have been in their PJs all day and never changed out of what they slept in? Im typing this wearing the usual kaftan and flipflops (nothing underneath) but I would feel really grungy if I didnt have a shower when I got up.

MissAdventure Fri 23-Sept-22 16:56:08

My daughters car broke down on a roundabout, and she had to get out, dressed in a turquoise cow onesie, with udders and hooves.

Mollygo Fri 23-Sept-22 16:57:31

MissAdventure-not funny for your daughter, but ????

MissAdventure Fri 23-Sept-22 17:02:01

smile
She saw the funny side (eventually!)

MrsEggy Fri 23-Sept-22 17:05:42

I remember in the 1970s a lot of us went to parties in nighties, Jane Austen style.

MissAdventure Fri 23-Sept-22 17:08:22

My grandsons school had a pyjama day for something or other, when he was little.
All the children wore their pjs and took their favourite soft toy. smile
Lovely, and cheap, too.

Red Nose Day?
