As I scroll through various chats in here, names pop up.
One in particular always gets me going, although they are not at fault.
However, every time I see 'HowVeryDareYou' my thoughts go something like this, "What? Now what the hell have I done....oh, nothing, I'm on Gransnet! I'm ok. No problem. All's good, I'm fine. I've done nothing wrong!"
Until a few minutes later and the moniker pops up again...lol.

Do any of you have similar reactions to any names in here?

Fleurpepper

Fleur is one of my middle names, and Pepper was our first and favourite ever dog, who turned up in our front garden injured, just been knocked by a car. We had him for 17 years. His photo was in front of me on the wood burned when I signed up.

I wish Fleur was one of my names I must say.
Pepper is a very good name for a dog, was this not the name of a very large dog, perhaps a wolfhound that belonged to one of the Bronte sisters? I have never managed to get to the village of Haworth in Yorkshire but it is on my to do list.

Prentice fair enough! ?
(I’ve never come across the name is why I asked).

I think. What irritates me so much is when there’s swearing. Why do some just feel the need to swear?
I’m no Angel but really why so much on a site like this.
On MN it’s much more frequent and if swearing is so often they most probably swear in front of their precious children.

The Fleur I know in her fifties was named from the Forsyte Saga.

Minerva Mon 26-Sept-22 12:07:34

Well I never. I must read the wrong posts but I’ve never noticed swearing and I rarely swear myself.

Wasn't Teetime a character in those books by chap who died of alzheimers?

Seabreeze Mon 26-Sept-22 12:13:13

Bluebelle here's Fanny!

Yes, Fanny Cornforth was a model for the Pre Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rosetti (played by Aidan Turner in the TV series). Wonderful name and very romantic because of the Pre-Raphaelite connections.

There was a poster who swore a lot in her posts, very unpleasant it was too. She has either gone or been re-named but I've not noticed the swearing back so who knows where she is?

I love the names on mumsnet ?

Spec1alk Mon 26-Sept-22 12:20:41

Mine is an (affectionate?) nickname given to me by my OH. It has nothing to do with cereal!!!!

SueDonim Mon 26-Sept-22 12:32:00

Casdon

I think the best name is Sue Donim, that’s clever.

I wish I could take the plaudits for my nickname. The truth is, it was the name of a character in a book I read, years ago, so I stole it. grin

I love Terribull, which reminds me of Miss Trunchbull of Matilda fame. Though I am sure Terribull is nothing like that particular lady!

Lemsip makes me thinks of winter, Howverydareyou makes me sit up straight, Lauranorder is v clever, and so on.

Fleur is such a pretty name. I loved Susan Hampshire who played her in the Forsyte Saga all those years. I wanted to be as pretty and elegant as she, but that ship has long sailed! I know of a small girl called Pepper. I wonder how she gets on at nursery and school with the ubiquitous Peppa Pig being everywhere!

I didn't think of anything original and know I've been identified as a friend commented that I had posted on here. Perhaps I should change it but not sure how.

twinnytwin Mon 26-Sept-22 13:02:56

twinnytwin

I think you can guess why I chose my name. winkwink

If a sister is your twin and she was on Gransnet, she’d be twinnytwintwin, twinnytwin!

Love that - so true!

I thought we were discussing usernames ……

JdotJ Mon 26-Sept-22 13:10:10

There are some names (trolls) on Gransnet who, despite whatever the topic, are determined to disagree with whatever is being discussed and are rudeness personified.
I find myself retaliating whenever I see posts from them. If they were MY grandmothers I'd be more than ashamed to call them that!
Nasty pieces of work. So easy to hide behind a keyboard isn't it.
I left Gransnet a while ago because of one individual who is still posting, but then thought 'why should I, this isn't school'

Theoddbird Mon 26-Sept-22 13:15:07

Mine is because many think I am odd...hahaha

Nanny27 Mon 26-Sept-22 13:17:29

Reading through am now terrified that I that person. I so hope not.
Ps. I am a Nanny to seven, hence the name.

Me neither. I wonder which threads are prone to swearing.

Ethelwashere1 Mon 26-Sept-22 13:24:18

I was Etheltbags simply cos I like tea. I was off for a while and had to pick a new name so I picked ethelwas here it only accepted Ethel washere1.

pooohbear2811 Mon 26-Sept-22 13:25:04

mine came about YEARS ago when I tried to join ebay and everything I thought about was gone, and did not really it was mispelt until after it had accepted my name, think by this point I had tried about 20 different names including every configuration of my own name I could come up with. Pooh Bear because I love him and 4 numbers of hubby's date of birth, just to make me harder to hack.
I did have it as my Twitter name for a number of years but then changed it to my blog name when I started a blog.
Yes I read Mrs Hat the other way as well.

grannyrebel7 Mon 26-Sept-22 13:32:25

Usuallyright name annoys me.

Candelle Mon 26-Sept-22 13:33:04

Laura Norder is my favourite, closely followed by Sue Donim - both really amusing.

Wish I had thought of something similar.
