I have a couple of pairs from Josef Seibel. Trendy but well made.

I bought some Rieker ankle boots last winter. Yesterday I received a pair of Sketchers ankle boots fro QVC. These will be lovely and warm.

Knee high doc martens (for walking in town/ on footpaths)
Meindl walking boots (for fields, tracks, undergrowth, hills and dales)
Grub wellies (for extreme weather, rain mud, long wet grass)

For daily use I have one pair of Josef Seibel in blue and one Think in brown. Both knee high and flat with good grip, leather foot, suede legs and fully fleecy lined. I have some with heels for dressed occasions (Gabor & Ecco) and two ankle pairs ((Reiker & Carvela) also decidedly comfortable. All of these are at least ten years old and terrific. Would thoroughly recommend any of them.

Absolutely no use to you because I no longer live in the UK. I just want to say that as the soles of my all-purpose trainers started leaking and the rain filled up the Wellingtons that I had foolishly left on the deck, I decided to buy some waterproof boots. I just wanted something inexpensive, waterproof and practical.

I saw a pair of zip and lace-up ankle boots in a local shoe shop. They had thick, clearly waterproof soles and were black with pink flowers all over them. Two out of three because they were fairly expensive, but they are both frivolous and practical. Every time I wear them, people comment – and I absolutely love them. You don't have to be young to be a little bit silly.

My feet are as sensitive as 'the princess and the pea', so I rarely wear any brand of shoes other than Skechers. They have a huge selection of boot styles on Ebay. The sizing is usually accurate.

The best, most comfortable boots I’ve ever bought, still being worn, are from Tu, brown leather, cost £30 about 8 years ago, I’m looking there now for a black pair.

Are the crumbling soles made of rubber Prentice? This seems to be the case with so many boots these days. My ageing but still good boots have leather soles and heels, which can be repaired if necessary. Two pairs (same style, different colours) came from House of Bruar, who sell online. Other than trainers, I refuse to buy footwear with rubber soles.

Drapers of Glastonbury leather sheepswool lined long boots made in GB. A tad expensive initially but mine have lasted several winters and are so warm. Drapers now fo a short ankle version and I am very tempted. Cheaper than ch!

Is repairing the boots an option? I bought my ‘dress’ boots from M&S, and my warm, fur lined, non slip ones online, but can’t remember from where. Wellies from Clark’s.

Yes they are made of something manmade.It is true that they do not get much wear, the Winters in London have been so mild in recent years, so have been sitting in the cupboard, degrading.They are Hotters, about ten years old.

Can anyone recommend boots with 100% non-slip soles? I have osteoporosis and where we live is hilly. I am terrified of slipping on wet leaves or ice.

Don't think one can ever guarantee completely non slip soles, S. Even the best impressions can become impacted with snow or ice rendering a 'smooth' surface. Have you considered or tried crampons?

Kim19 I tried crampons for shoes but although they may give a grip I felt perched up on them and unsafe as a consequence.

In the last week I've purchased ankle and knee high, soft leather boots from Seasalt. Excellent quality. Lovely boots. Very comfortable too.
For 'dressy' wear I have a pair of Gabor, black suede with a stubby heel.

Skydancer when we had snow and ice here a few years ago I wore thick mens socks over the bottom of my boots, worked a treat. Might have looked a bit daft, but I didn’t care!
