Completed the London Marathon.
Aged 72, and I got a Personal Best time, beating my previous pb set in 2012.
I'm not what you would call a runner and I certainly didn't do any running until I prepared for my first LM in 2012---being encouraged by my 2 daughters to do it in Olympic year.
Then pauses ,with no running at all due to life getting in the way. Completed again in 2015 and 2017, then started serious preparation in January this year.
With my name on my charity top I received sooooo much support all around the course, and especially when I was struggling a bit towards the end.
Also huge cheers as I ran down the Mall to the finish.
Best one yet and definitely my last
I will stick to Half Marathons and below ftom now on.
Always good to go out on a high and kinder on my back
There are definite bonuses to being an old , crazy lady

Well done indeed! You’re a great inspiration to older people. I’ve become a total “couch potato” since I took slightly early retirement due to ill health a few years back. Reading about your wonderful achievement will hopefully encourage me to get up off my fat, lazy backside and start walking if not running more.

FannyCornforth Tue 04-Oct-22 03:04:52

I need a boot up the backside too.
I’m currently on the Good Ship Prevarication, heading towards the isle of Vague Despair.
I’m not going to be running a marathon anytime soon ever, but I definitely need a dose of your determination and focus.
I noticed that you are very self effacing lincolnimp.
If it were me I would have plastered ‘I ran the Marathon!!!’ (plus emojis) all over the title! smile
