It was her womb, a uterine prolapse. Mares don't often survive that. The vet did really well. She seemed quite old to have just had a foal.

The op was a success.

She had an older foal, so I presume it may have been the birth that had left her with problems, but all was well, and the foal was beautiful, too.

I love dumplings in a stew too. But, Slimming World says no to them or syn them. I don't make them any more!

I like to put short rib and chunky veg into my slow cooker and leave for a few hours. Thicken and serve with mash. Yum!

Turkey stew’s a must-have here, NanKate, by about the 28th December, Loads of veg, any leftover stuffing and gravy, etc.

We once had guests with 3 dogs staying, so with our own that made four. How I wish I’d had a camera when stripping the turkey that year - turned around to see all 4 dogs sitting in a row, looking the picture of good manners and hope!
(Yes, they did all get some turkey.)

I am emptying our freezer I have venison to use up so I will be making a rich casserole with it at the weekend.

I make a lot of stews, I don't really like them but they are easy and economical - and husband enjoys them. But we can't afford to eat any other way.

It's a stew and dumplings kind of day here!
Not cold but wet and windy

I do all mine inmy slow cooker and freeze the remainder. Not sure if they could be called hearty stews. I love dumplings but I've never really been able to make them properly they always fall apart.

Also not sure what a hearty stew is exactly, is it like a casserole?

I made one on Monday in the slow cooker. Tin of vegetable soup, oxo cube, onion, carrots, celery, parsnip, potatoes, all diced. Mixed herbs, dash of red wine, bay leaf. Diced stewing steak. Thickened before serving with dash of gravy granuals and stir well.

You can't beat a good stew with dumplings (that's it I'm hungry now) just thinking about it

The green lentils, chickpeas & chorizo are simmering away as I speak - stew didn't sound right!
