My daughter’s 36 1/2 with a failed marriage and umpteen other failed ‘ relationships ‘ so as I’m nearly 70 and dying of cancer, I’ve given up hope of ever seeing a grandchild. Good luck to you and I hope your daughter has an easy pregnancy !

If first became a Grandma when I was 60. My adopted DD's two are 23 and 20.
My Aussie-living DD had a donor egg daughter when she was almost 44, and my Aussie-living DS became a dad when he was 40. The GC are now 5 and 2. Amusingly, my 2 yo GS is the only blood relation to me, out of my 4 GC, but they are all dearly loved.
I'm sure that you will love being a Gran, and you're so lucky to have then living nearby. I hope that everything goes well.

My daughter inlaw was 36 when she had my second granddaughter her first child and so was my son who was born in 85. I remember when my son said going to have a baby with my first granddaughter she is nearly 12 now then 10 weeks later my youngest said his wife was pregnant lol I got a double shock lol excitement. Congrats to your family. I’ve now got 4 plus a step grandchild

I am a Grandma. I had a Nanan and a Grandma. My children called my mum Nana.
It is whatever feels comfortable for you…. It might even change as a grandchild’s way of pronouncing may morph into a unique family name.

CathSoc62 I am sending you good thoughts and so sorry that you have to face what you are facing now. I hope you are getting loving support at least some of the time and salute you for sending good wishes to the grandmother - to - be and the baby. I hope you can find a pathway which works ok for you. I am sure there are others in GN who are also sending you loving thoughts.

What lovely news, I'm so excited for you. I wish GNs wouldn't be such snobs about the word Nanny, it feels so mean when we all know so many GNs are known by that name. Whatever you are called, it's wonderful to hear your little one saying it to you. (I'm a granny- so no axe to grind)

Congratulations, that's brilliant news. I wish you all the luck in the world. Grandparents are so wonderful. I have fond memories of being with my grandparents, and often think of them fondly. So many day-to-day triggers remind me of them because of their care and devotion. My grandmother passed away the same day as John Lennon and my grandfather followed her 12 years later while I was at teacher training. Grandparents are so important for children's development (IMO).

Congratulations, what wonderful, exciting news. In my family we have always been 'Nan's' and I remember my Nan with great affection. My Mum was Nan to all her grandkids as were my sisters. If you dont have a family tradition or one you remember fondly, Granny is lovely but a quick Google can bring up something more unusual if you like that kind of thing as I do. Often though the mispronounciation that little ones come out with are a cute alternative that often sticks.

Many congratulations Dogsmother! I left the choice of what I was to called to our first grandchild, and she insisted on Barry to the amusement of our two daughters. We now have another three, and it has stuck. Incidentally I notice that the queen’s grandchildren spelt granny as grannie, but apparently when George was smaller he couldn’t manage it and called her Gary for some time! I hope all goes smoothly.

I too longed to be a granny. Eventually it happened. Both my son and daughter took a long time to get around to it but both are happily married with two children each so now granny to four teenagers. I am very proud to be called Granny. We were given a choice and my husband chose to be called Grandfather.

Being a grandma has been one of the best times in my life

When my first GC was born I really wanted to be Nanna but I thought DIL’s mum (senior grandma by tradition) would have that title. To my delight it ended up that she was Nan and I am Nanna. The GC decided on that by the time there two of them.

Congratulations Dogsmother, and hoping everything goes well. But I am green with envy cos my daughter was born in 83 and no sign of children. Sadly a very long-term relationship ended after 8 years so she was well into her thirties when she married a fabulous loving man and she says they want children. Naturally, I keep stum but hope is fading. Fortunately for us our elder daughter has two lovely kiddies who are the light of our lives. I'm sure your grandchild will be the same for you.

His dad, my son, was twenty two when he was born.

Can I join in? Our fifth grandchild was born last Wednesday - a beautiful girl, healthy and with quite a lot of hair!

When first DGC arrived there was some debate about my name…I hoped to be Grandma but DD wasn’t keen, whereas I was reluctant to be Nanna. The compromise was Granna which I’m very happy with! Now have 4 adorable DGC…very blessed!
