I really can’t see the Coronation being on a Sunday.

I actually think it will be a Sunday....I can't see there being an extra bank holiday cos we've had 2 extra this year....although I would be made up with an extra one

I always appreciate a reason to throw a party, friends and relatives coming together for some tasty food and drinks and laughter. After the last few years with Covid it is what we need more than ever.
Bread and circuses? Possibly so, but as long as we do not have to fight to the death as gladiators, that’s all right.

Mapleleaf Thu 06-Oct-22 20:36:01

Oh dear, some of these posts about abolition, shedding relatives (how, exactly), etc are getting rather tiresome. If you love a republic so much, off you go and live in one then, there’s plenty of them.

Joseanne Thu 06-Oct-22 20:56:26

I think I'd be inclined to bring it forward to the weekend before, May 28th, which runs into the Spring Bank Holiday on 29th.

How dare you.

Those of us who support a republic want this country to be the best it can be. How dare you tell us to go away because we want to change the system for what we think would be something better.

You should be ashamed of yourself. It's hateful.

Galaxy Thu 06-Oct-22 21:16:14

Yes if you disagree with anything go and live somewhere elsegrin. To be fair I cant take that nonsense seriously.

I know what you mean Galaxy. But people need to be told when they say unacceptable things. I suppose I see it as a sort of public service. ?

Casdon Thu 06-Oct-22 21:33:26

I don’t actually think the way it was originally worded in the quote Grany used was acceptable though, ‘shedding most of his relations’ without context can be taken two ways, I’m sure John Vidal was being deliberately provocative. I don’t like hate quotes, whoever they are from (as those who know me are no doubt sick of me saying).

volver Thu 06-Oct-22 21:38:05

Well people can comment on that then Casdon, instead of making other unacceptable comments targeted at other Gransnetters.

nadateturbe Thu 06-Oct-22 22:11:35

EVERYONE is entitled to post their views. The rudeness Grany gets sometimes is out of order!

Callistemon21 Thu 06-Oct-22 22:25:45

Aside from shedding most of his relations
shedding? How? They could emigrate I suppose. Oh, wait a minute ?

Anniebach Thu 06-Oct-22 22:26:03

Stating posters hate when they criticise is out of order

Joseanne Fri 07-Oct-22 02:47:21

shedding?

Joseanne Fri 07-Oct-22 02:48:57

I think Vidal means putting them in here along with all the other junk.
Well, the article does call Charles the green king after all.

That makes sense.
My money was originally on the middle of February, English half term.

Calendargirl Fri 07-Oct-22 07:24:43

My money was on the middle of February

Not likely, I would have thought. February is the dreariest month of the year, even though it’s the shortest.

My prediction was June 2nd, 70 years since the Queen’s Coronation.

Ah well, only one day out.

FannyCornforth Fri 07-Oct-22 08:02:01

Calendargirl re February, tbh I didn’t think about all of the pomping about involved, street parties and the like.

For tens of thousands of people in this country, they are gladiators, having to fight - on a 24/7 basis the wild beasts that are our current government. Those wild beasts being all the horrors of on-going poverty!!!

Actually, could do without the circus' bit but perhaps some cheap or free brad would not come amiss!!!!!

Anniebach Fri 07-Oct-22 08:42:26

Street parties are not compulsory, people choose to hold them

Prentice Fri 07-Oct-22 08:51:43

Exactly so Anniebach and they are always sources of good cheer and community spirit.
For those who choose to dwell on misery, there is always plenty of that to go round in most countries, but you do not have to be a huge fan of the royal family to enjoy a party.
I wish King Charles good fortune, it is no easy position for all the luxury that comes alongside it.

Galaxy Fri 07-Oct-22 08:56:24

Not going to a street party isnt dwelling in misery grin. I am going to a football match tomorrow. I dont think those who arent going to a match are misery guts.

As long as they don't persistently tell you that you are wrong to do so! I'm guessing that would make you all the more keen to attend.

volver Fri 07-Oct-22 09:01:48

I'm just packing my cases to go and live in a Republic. Haven't decided which one yet. Probably North Korea. In the meantime...

it is no easy position

What's so hard about it? I'd love to know.

Enjoy the match. I hope your team win.
I don’t think those who aren’t going are misery guts, but I don’t criticise those who are going for enjoying a good match either.

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 07-Oct-22 09:04:51

Grany why don’t you start your own thread rather than hijack someone else’s? I say this in a kind way.
