It is said to be June3rd next year in Westminster Abbey. This is from Bloomsberg.

And is the UEFA Cup Final on the 10th ?

Yes!

Quick service in the morning ready for football in the afternoon? Well Charles did say he wanted a cut back ceremony.

Callistemon21 Fri 07-Oct-22 11:04:15

The Coronation will be in May.

Never mind all this. What apart the really important questions?

Will it be a Bank Holiday?
Is there any merchandise available yet?
Is Paddington available for the event or will there be some other animated cuddly toy on hand?

Blossoming Fri 07-Oct-22 11:13:33

About, not apart

Ashcombe Fri 07-Oct-22 11:16:21

They've never had to cook their own Christmas dinners before and are all squabbling about when to put on the sprouts.
Callistemon21

There'll probably be a power cut anyway!!

Oh dear, some of these posts about abolition, shedding relatives (how, exactly), etc are getting rather tiresome. If you love a republic so much, off you go and live in one then, there’s plenty of them.

How dare you.

Those of us who support a republic want this country to be the best it can be. How dare you tell us to go away because we want to change the system for what we think would be something better.

You should be ashamed of yourself. It's hateful.

Oooh, and here was me thinking that Volver believed in free speech!

Blossoming Fri 07-Oct-22 11:26:18

She does.

nanna8 Fri 07-Oct-22 11:26:41

To get back to the OP, it does seem like an awful long wait . I assumed it would have been straight after Christmas. They’re not getting any younger.

Juggernaut Fri 07-Oct-22 11:28:47

@Blossoming,
Aye, she does, just as long as you're agreeing with her!

volver Fri 07-Oct-22 11:32:34

OK, enough now.

Telling people who don't agree with you to get out of the country isn't free speech, its hate speech.

Someone who doesn't agree with me about the way our constitution is run told people who think like me to leave the country.

And it's me who doesn't believe in free speech, Jaberwok says. ??

Joseanne Fri 07-Oct-22 11:38:38

Who is Jaberwok?
We probably all speak nonsensical gibberish at times.

volver Fri 07-Oct-22 11:41:56

Oh goodness, sorry Jaberwok!

Juggernaut is who I'm talking about, of course.

Thanks Joseanne.

I should probably just leave the country.

I thought that too.

As I said, I thought it would be February.
Especially when I heard that Charles said that he wanted a comparatively low key coronation (I know, I know, a tautology if there ever was one).
I thought that he’d want to get it over and done with.

Mind you, since the death of his mother, it’s made me realise that they have even less say in their own lives than I previously thought.

Blossoming Fri 07-Oct-22 11:52:21

@Juggernaut, I’m not always agreeing with her but she’s never tried to tell me I’m not allowed to disagree.

After Christmas might be ok in Australia but it's a bit chilly here.

I seem to recall Prince Harry’s wedding took place on Cup Final Day, but quite early so William probably squeezed both in somehow.

He could do the same with the Coronation.

With hindsight, perhaps he wishes he had not bothered so much about fitting the wedding in!

I have seen considerable criticism of the time and money that was spent on the queen's funeral. Everything stopping for 10 days when the country is in an economic crisis. Its time we did away with all the pomp and paraphinalia and had a simple inauguration ceremony as they do in some countries. It would send a very welcome message in a time of inequality and cost of living crisis.

The new head of state simply takes an oath to uphold the constitution before the parliament. This is the type of procedure they have in Sweden, Spain and the Netherlands.

Mapleleaf Fri 07-Oct-22 13:34:38

I’m not ashamed volver and I’m not going to get into an argument with you about it. I’m certainly not hateful, either - a rather strong word for you to use.

volver Fri 07-Oct-22 13:42:09

You're not ashamed of telling people to leave the country because they have an opinion you disagree with?

Okey doke.

Eloethan Fri 07-Oct-22 14:01:31

I agree with your Grany.

I've been watching the current Channel 5 documentary on Westminster Abbey. (Fascinating!)
Given the way in which it is so booked up with events, and a case of one in, one out, something will have to give in order to clear the slot and surrounding dates for security and preparations. For that reason, I'm sure the date is already decided, and someone will soon spill the beans.
Personally I cannot wait for the music, all that Elgar and Holst, and Hubert Parry's "I was glad".
Unless Charles chooses some Barbara Streisand or Diana Ross!

I do like a bit of Pomp and Circumstance!

Why does it need to be a secret that has to be “leaked”? Treating us like infants with the slow drip feed of information. Maybe we can arrange to be out of the country. Just tell us the date fgs.
