to say thank for supplying free soup,a roll and unlimited tea/coffee for the months of November and December to the over 60's?

FannyCornforth Sat 08-Oct-22 06:37:16

It’s not free. It’s £1
There was another thread about this yesterday

Sorry,forget it was a flat rate of a pound,am I forgiven?

Still a good bargain though.

Not all of us live near an Asda.

By the time I’ve driven 20 odd miles, would be cheaper to eat at home.

Of course! smile
Funnily enough, yesterday’s thread also mistakenly said that it was free, so perhaps there is something subliminal going on in the reporting of the deal.

I alternate between Asda and Aldi so yes and if I meet my friend we can be two old birds chatting over the soup after
we ve done our shopping Why not goods and prices no better no worse

I know it's £1 but in my head the headlines said 'giving away', I cant find any of those headlines now thoughgrin. I think asda do some good community initiatives but I rarely shop there.

FannyCornforth Sat 08-Oct-22 07:55:19

Asda do some nice clothes too, their leggings are very good.

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 08-Oct-22 08:42:19

I can get Asda delivery but it would take me 45 minutes to drive there, so I won’t be going there to shop.

I use them occasionally for grocery deliveries, 2 of their lovely ducks are nestling in my freezer. I also use their optician and just last week ordered 2 new pairs of glasses.

We don't have a restaurant in our local Asda only in Morrisons where they offer free meal for a parent & child, if parent is eating the child eats free I've often wondered how this would be received if I ordered for my 51yr old daughter grin.

NotSpaghetti Sat 08-Oct-22 11:07:36

No!

kittylester Sat 08-Oct-22 11:09:21

I really don't like Asda.

Kate1949 Sat 08-Oct-22 11:14:54

Asda were dreadful here during the main part of the pandemic. We had broken bottles, rotten eggs, a whole lot of frozen food not delivered with no explanation for which I was charged. When I rang them, there was no apology. I was told 'You'll have to go on line and sort out your refund.' Tescos have been fantastic

greenlady102 Sat 08-Oct-22 11:16:03

nope I think asda is rubbish

Yammy Sat 08-Oct-22 12:01:55

My trip would be at least a 40 miles round trip.
This sounded very philanthropic to start with and then I thought, will it take a lot of shoppers away from other supermarkets? So who will follow next? Sceptical me as always.hmm

MissAdventure Sat 08-Oct-22 12:09:48

I like Asda.

It'll be interesting to see who is next- perhaps one of the more expensive stores?

Rosie51 Sat 08-Oct-22 12:10:11

As only one third of their stores actually have a cafe, this is not an incentive for people to switch to the other two thirds. 3 large Asdas near me, none have a cafe.

MissAdventure Sat 08-Oct-22 12:12:04

As long as it helps some, it doesn't matter the reasons.

They're a business, so they're not doing it because everyone reminds them of their grannies.

BlueBelle Sat 08-Oct-22 12:12:46

No problem if they all do it
In my area there’s only Asda or Morrisons with a restaurant I think….. Tescos too far from me and too expensive anyway, Aldi iceland and Lldl don’t have cafes
So I m happy to shop at Asda never had a problem with them. They are just as good as the others in my opinion
I called in Iceland today 10 am they advertised Air fryers so I went especially for that I couldn’t see them anywhere I asked an assistant and she told me they only have five and they all went out on deliveries !!!

Do some research on the people who own Asda and ask yourself what their motives are.

Kim19 Sat 08-Oct-22 16:47:19

I pop into Asda quite regularly and will certainly investigate this offer at least once. Sounds like a nice gesture.

Blossoming Sat 08-Oct-22 16:50:23

There is no Asda near here.

YorkLady Sat 08-Oct-22 17:11:45

Sounds like a good way to keep warm. I can see some paying the £1 for soup and staying all afternoon for the unlimited tea/coffee.
You would be lucky to get a table. ??
