MissAdventure Sun 09-Oct-22 15:30:04

Ah, thank you.
It does sound simple but really tasty!

I've just remembered, I think it is kitty who made 'sausage thing' smile

Here it is, thanks to Kate54.

Asda do an over 60’s discount??

I can't find anything about an Asda over 60s discount?? Only the Iceland one. The Asda Blue Light 10% discount is not for over 60s. Anyone got any more info please?

Thank you, re; soap.

I reckon my grandson would enjoy that.

I must find the recipe at some point.

MissAdventure Sun 09-Oct-22 15:14:34

Well, for years most people had nothing but bad to say about Aldis, but that now is very accepted.

When Aldi first started competing with the major supermarkets a good friend of mine, who’s a very successful business woman, advised me to patronise several providers so that Aldi couldn’t corner the market and be able to charge without challenge.
This I continue to do, though I don’t mention in my posts on GN the seven (off the top of my head) which see my custom.
I like to share deals and hope others will too.
Frankly I am horrified by the derogatory remarks made on this thread.

MissAdventure Sun 09-Oct-22 15:06:07

Ah yes.
Soap!! That's it.

I don't know why it's called that either.

MissAdventure Sun 09-Oct-22 15:04:50

From the little bits and bobs I've gleaned from a couple of your photos on here, it'll be right up your street, fanny.
Quirky little bits and pieces, rich colours, abstracts. smile

That pork thing. It’s called SOAP dish. I think that it was Urms
I pmed her about it.
I don’t eat meat, but I wanted to know why it was called that.
I still don’t know!

FannyCornforth Sun 09-Oct-22 15:01:51

Ooh, I’ll have to go to Sainsburys/ Habitat!
I’ll do my best to not whoop too loudly ?

MissAdventure Sun 09-Oct-22 14:52:07

Oh that does sound lovely, and I really like coconut.

I'm not sure I'm up to the cooking part, though.

We should start a recipe thread, I think.

Somebody once posted about 'pork thing' that she made for her family.

Lots of people asked for the recipe and made it.

I wait until they reduce things.... grin

MissAdventure

I can really, really recommend the sainsbury Lentil Dahl soup.

It's filling enough to make a couple of meals from, too.

The recipe below is very very reasonable and delicious. I make it weekly.

Notam Ottolenghi Curried lentil and coconut soup

2 tbsp coconut oil or sunflower oil
1 medium onion, peeled and finely diced
1 tbsp medium curry powder
¼ tsp chilli flakes
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
4cm piece fresh ginger, peeled and finely chopped
150g red lentils, rinsed and drained
400g tinned chopped tomatoes
25g coriander stalks cut into 2cm pieces, plus 5g picked leaves, to garnish
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
400g tin coconut milk
Lime wedges, to serve

Heat the oil in a medium saucepan on a medium-high flame, then fry the onion for eight minutes, stirring often, until soft and caramelised. Add the curry powder, chilli flakes, garlic and ginger, and fry for two minutes more, stirring continuously. Add the lentils, stir through for a minute, then add the tomatoes, coriander stalks, 600ml cold water, a teaspoon of salt and a very generous grind of pepper, and leave to heat through.

Pour the coconut milk into a bowl and gently whisk until smooth and creamy. Set aside four tablespoons – you’ll use this when serving – then tip the remaining coconut milk into the soup pot. Bring the mixture up to a boil, turn down the heat to medium and leave to simmer gently for 25 minutes, until the lentils are soft but still hold their shape.

Divide the soup between four warmed bowls, drizzle over the remaining coconut milk, scatter the coriander leaves on top and serve with lime wedges.

Oh yes, they slip in some really interesting bits and bobs in there, don't they?

JaneJudge Sun 09-Oct-22 14:42:48

The habitat section in sainsburys holds me hostage and I must give off heavy shoplifter vibes as the security guard always follows me hmm blush

I don't have an Asda near me, but the supermarkets in my High Street closed their cafes during lockdown and I'm sure other supermarkets also closed theirs - I wonder how many Asda's have cafes?
More importantly, they also closed their toilets!

MissA it’s only in the past two months that I’ve been going into shops (since February 2020!)
I get really quite excited about the littlest things.
So far, it’s just been the co op , M&S food hall and a garden centre.
I had totally forgotten how to use the contact free thingummy.
I’m also the only person in a mask still.

I can only manage online shopping at the moment.

It would be lovely to go and admire the food in person.
I miss that, strangely enough, because I loathe shopping normally.

MerylStreep Sun 09-Oct-22 14:33:30

What kind of soup will it be.
ASDAs own I would think.

JaneJudge Sun 09-Oct-22 14:31:50

the cully and sully soups are nice too

MissAdventure Sun 09-Oct-22 14:31:49

I used to be a big fan of the packet soups, too.
I can't remember, maybe Knorr was the brand.

Heinz lentil is my favourite tinned one. I have it at least once a week.
