Let’s have a virtual GN dinner party, you are allowed one celebrity, one historical character, one fictional character and finally a GN member you have never met.

I will start, Graham Norton will be my celebrity because he will keep the conversation going.
My historical character will be Jane Austen as she was a woman ahead of her time and I sense someone with great powers of observation.
My fictional character is Charles Ryder from Brideshead Revisited. I have so many questions!
My final GN guest will be Maw because she won’t take any

Stanley Tucci - because and as a cooks helper.
Jesus
Mary Poppins
Many and varied lovely posters, hard choice

Dolly Parton and Miss Adventure would make for a good evening I think. Inspector Brunetti, from the Donna Leon books could talk about life in Venice.
Aneurin Bevan - my hero.

Caleo Tue 25-Oct-22 12:47:19

My fictional guest would be Archer from the Whiteoaks series by Mazo de la Roche

Caleo Tue 25-Oct-22 12:49:14

I would invite Archer Whiteoak as I am shy and he would make the sort of jokes that would make me feel relaxed, and he is also intellectually stimulating.

A celebrity, Mary Berry, she seems pleasant and will have many anecdotes and we can discuss cakes and baking.
Historical character, Samuel Johnson, as all said that he was very good company.
Fictional character, I was going to say Inspector Montalbano, but he would only speak in Italian, and in any case does not like to chat when he eats dinner. That being the case I choose Father Brown he enjoys good food and can tell us about his mysterious murder cases.
I cannot say which GN member really, but Miss Adventure could liven the evening with a few Pam Ayres style poems I think.

Celebrity: Jay Rayner. Interesting, erudite and very funny.
History: Alexander the Great because I really want to know who he was about to name as his successor had he not died at exactly the wrong moment. And he loved a party!
Fictional character: Adelia Aguilar (Ariana Franklin’s mediaeval Mistress of the Art of Death novels). Ahead of her time and afraid of no one.
Gransnetter: Kittylester because we missed each other once and she’s been on my bucket list for so long!!

Sandi Toksvig - witty and irreverent; Emmeline Pankhurst - owe her a huge debt; Don Quixote- free spirit, adventurer, romantic. Lots of gransnetters whose posts I enjoy, and quite a few I definitely wouldn't want to share a dinner party with.
