Come the next General Election, who would you most rejoice to see losing their seat?

(Apart from Boris, that is, assuming you’re not a fan.)

Mine would be Jacob Rees-Mogg, no question.

Angela Rayner, because she is uneducated, and has made no attempt to rectify her lack of education through all the opportunities available nowadays.

Let's be clear about this. AR left school at 16 with no qualifications. She trained in social care at Stockport College gained an NVQ and then worked as a carer. She joined a union and became a Trades Union Official.
Personally I'd rather have someone with real life experiences than someone from an elite school.
But she has practical training and would have been trained by the TU. So she has some education.
There are often treads on GN about the value of vocational courses.

it’s a question of understanding what constitutes acceptable behaviour.

Quite.

A braying mob of MPs - one of whom thought it perfectly OK to sprawl on the bench as if it were a chaise lounge; another who recommends the sharing of prescription antibiotics; a former PM who missed 5 Cobra meetings during the first stages of a pandemic and hurriedly signed a Deal which completely changed the constitutional and economic life of the country, but which he wanted to renege on virtually before the ink was dry; another caught on camera having a quiet grope in the corridor during work time and Lockdown...

... I can see how this feisty, attractive young woman with the wrong accent doesn't conform to such high standards of acceptable behaviour...

She failed to complete her education, made no attempt to rectify this in later life, has no qualifications yet apparently thought she was competent to become the Shadow Secretary of State for Education.

The M.P. for my own constituency IF I knew who he was? His predecessor was Rory Stewart who seemed to be everywhere doing lots of work. The one now is an unseen, unknown quantity.
He will get re-elected though as this is such a safe seat you could put a sheep up and it would get voted in.

She didn't fail anything. She just didn't do something.

The fact that you think not having an academic education beyond school is something she needs to rectify says more about you than it does about AR.

I wouldn’t rejoice to see anyone lose their seat. I’m just not that emotionally involved in politics.

Therese Coffey thought she was competent to become Health Secretary.

Tom Watson from the House of Lords.
Starmer nominated him apparently.

Perhaps the most revealing thread on GN ever. Wow.

eazybee's comment truly takes the biscuit, blimey!

I like Angela Rayner

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Oct-22 10:01:58

John McDonnell

Yes, kissngate, I was going to mention him too but we hadn't heard much from him lately so I thought he'd left politics.
If not, I nominate him.

Yes I do too. I admire what she has achieved without the benefits and advantages that so many other people take for granted.

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Oct-22 10:03:18

Why can't posters just nominate who they wish to without starting to attack other posters.

An interesting thread but going off the rails, as usual.

My local MP Gagan Mohindra, one of the 2019 bunch brought in for their Brexit stance, with little else to recommend them. IMO he is a lazy constituency MP, who tows the party line in votes and defends the indefensible when I've written to him. He replaced a well respected Tory MP who was kicked out of the party for his integrity in putting what he believed to be the national interests first.

Really? I'd be far more inclined to vote for someone who left school at 16, pregnant and then still managed to get to where she is today. Paper qualifications aren't necessarily the be-all and end-all.

timetogo2016 Tue 25-Oct-22 10:30:34

Rees Mogg would be my choice for sure.

Forsythia Tue 25-Oct-22 10:31:08

How did she get from there to where she us today?

Talent but I’m not sure she has leadership qualities, being a siren campaigner is not enough.

^it’s a question of understanding what constitutes acceptable behaviour.^
Try to deport people illegally, allow the release of effluent onto beaches, lie down on the Commons Benches, hand out antibiotics like sweeties and crash the economy.

But for goodness sake, don't be common.

I’m sure you were aware that I was referring to manners, not policies, volver.

maddyone Tue 25-Oct-22 11:16:05

I agree that Angela Raynor probably hasn’t got the leadership qualities to lead her party. I think she’s quite a divisive figure (as shown on this thread) and the Labour Party would probably divide into extreme left wing and left of centre. We’ve had all this with the Conservatives and the Labour Party will learn from what happened with both Corbyn and the Conservatives. I think Starmer is aware of this. I think that’s why he brought her in, to unite the party rather than let it divide.

MawtheMerrier Tue 25-Oct-22 11:17:42

It is so tempting - but were I to give in to this Schadenfreude the list might go on a bit!
However it would definitely include Boris, Gavin Williamson, Kwarteng, Rees Mogg, and our own (useless) Tory MP here.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 25-Oct-22 11:19:23

Truss - whose education taught her absolutely nothing.

Yes I was aware of that Witzend.

But also, "a man may smile and smile and be a villain."

Given the choice between someone with good manners and someone who thinks that all those things were acceptable, I'd go for the person with no manners. Not that I'm commenting on anybody's manners.

I quite like Pete Wishart and Mhairi Black too. Remember Denis Skinner too? They're not "nice".
