When's the last time you cooked roast beef?

I do buy steak and fish as well.
We will sometimes have lamb but only probably twice a year max as that has gone too expensive.

Last week, 🤩 but I have to add I stocked up my freezer when joints of meat were much cheaper or on offer , I honestly look at prices of joints,tutt to myself and move on without buying.When I’ve emptied my freezer I can’t imagine I will be stocking up again.
I fear the Sunday roast will not be a thing for long.

Twenty years ago when my mother was still alive. We very rarely have roast meat now and if we do it is pork or turkey. We much prefer casseroles these days.

Last Sunday. It wasn’t beef. I saw a lovely shoulder of Welsh lamb in Tesco and decided to go for it. Bought all the veg. I’m on my own and it’s years since I did a roast.
I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ofcourse, it was too much. Had a couple of slices and froze the rest. …..yummy

Rarely if ever these days. I think the last time was new year. Minced beef is the only beef I have nowadays. And even that not very often.

I find a full roast with trimmings much too heavy for me these days.

Also, I came to the conclusion a good while ago now that apart ftom the price, a beef joint small enough to be suitable for a small family was likely to be of poor quality anyway and too small to roast well. So I decided that, as with so many good things, an occasional treat of top quality roast beef at a good carvery is better than regular Sunday roasts of supermarket cuts. Scale counts for a lot here, a carvery can use good-sized joints.

These days if I roast anything it's likely to be a duck (a goose at Christmas; I don't care for turkey) or, when times are hard, a piece of pork belly.

About once a month we have Roast Beef DH isn't mad about meat. I have it if we go to a pub for Sunday Lunc h. My daughter's husband liked to cook his red wine marinated beef every couple of months and we go there. I often do other things for Sunday Lunch like paella, lasagne or casserole.

I have never cooked roast beef or any other meat. I do have a friend who apparently does it every Sunday though.

We rarely buy a joint, however I did invest in a piece of organic beef recently.
I shall be keeping a close eye on the serving of it though as it needs to do two meals. My husband would quite happily polish it off in one sitting! 🤨

We usually have steak on Friday evenings so don't really want more beef o n Sunday. We usually have chicken or a piece of pork spare rib.

Rarely lamb because we don't like cold lamb and one of the joys of a Sunday roast is cold meat, bubble and squeak and pickle on Monday.

I have always thought joints and roasts over rated dishes. I much prefer a casserole or stew or other made dish, although I do intend to boil a small ham hock for Sunday lunch.

Can’t remember the last time, I only really roast a chicken nowadays which I probably get 4/5 dinners out of. I do love roast beef though.

About once every couple of months or so. We're having some of the neighbours round on Sunday for roast rib of beef: well done on the outside, rare in the middle. Sandwiches for the next few days. Yum.

I bought a joint months ago and cut it into two, then froze both pieces. I roasted one on Saturday and made cottage pie today with the leftover meat and gravy.

One joint always does us for two meals and on larger joints, I slice up the rest for sandwiches.

We buy good quality beef from our local independent butchers. I roast it on Sunday, with Yorkies, roasted veg etc, then we have it cold or reheated in gravy on Monday. I also freeze two more meals for two, sliced in gravy which we eat on subsequent Sundays. So overall it is very cost effective as a £16+joint serves 8 portions. I don't need to put the oven on each week either, as I reheat in the microwave.

Was watching 'Maxine' on TV the other night and in it she says how they had just cooked Roast Beef and all the trimmings.
This was set about 2002 or thereabouts (I think)
And I realised wirh a bit of a shock that it's a been a couple of years since I bought a decent joint of beef to roast
I tend to go mainly for Chicken or pork these days.
Probably because it's cheaper.
And yet back in the day when I had a young family and not much money we ate roast beef regularly.
I think most young families wouldn't be able to afford it now.
What with the astronomical increase in food prices, it was shocking to realise how much life has changed since 2002.

My son was 15 ( now 25 ) It was my first and last time ever cooking a large joint of beef , it was perfect but too pink for him and friend, so I cooked theirs longer, mine was great, I think of it from time to time lol ( Hindsight tells me they would have preferred a McD's )
I ticked a box that I could cook it and well
I need to marry a millionaire (not an option) to afford that roast again

About a month ago - probably 3 months till I buy another joint.I don't miss the actual roast so much as the cold beef with buttery peppery mash & lots of pickles, which we'd have the next day.

We have a roast every week and rotate between beef, lamb, pork or chicken.

I use a small family butcher not far from where I live and usually get a small joint of beef every couple of weeks. He cuts me a piece just big enough for two of us and a piece of fat to go with it. It's good quality meat (not like supermarket stuff) and not expensive.

Last Sunday and surprisingly from Asda
My GD fancied roast beef with all the trimmings and bought a piece of topside for me to cook.
It was lovely, roast potatoes, hispi cabbage, carrots and Yorkshire puddings,
We devoured it
And enough to freeze in gravy for another meal.

Must be at least 20 years for me. I leave those indulgences for when I eat out.

The rest is in the fridge ready to be made into cottage pie today.

I have never cooked a joint of roast beef and never will.
Other than an odd organic chicken for my family many years ago I haven’t cooked any joints of meat.
