I’m fuming!

My lovely 97 year old friend has a birthday today. Her daughter was taking her to The Ivy for a celebratory lunch. She was so looking forward to it. However the daughter was held up for hours on the M25 by the Protesters on the gantries. So my friend never had her birthday lunch or saw her daughter. I’m so disappointed for her.

We are a democracy so I am not against protests per se, but when they cause such chaos and upset it’s unforgivable.

While writing the above and having watched the twitter clip of their leader and his desire to bring on the collapse of society and the international nature of these demonstrations. I am beginning to wonder just how much these demonstrations are about climate change and how much they are about using climate change as a tool on an international basis to try and bring on the collapse of society he so devoutly hopes for and all its opportunities to assert male dominance and oppress women.

In the link we were given, albeit, a snippet without any context and his connections with Calvin Robinson and his equally strange and rightwing views. I am beginning to wonder if the purpose of these demonstrations that do nothing to promote their purported cause and cause nothing but anger are part of a wider conspiracy of extreme right wing groups to to cause disaffection in society and to get people angry and frustrated, a state of mind that makes them more likely to be susceptible to fascist and extremist views. Remember, the Nazi party came into power in Germany because they were able to play on the anger and disruption of society that followed WW1.

Why don’t they just go and stand on a beach with a trident and shout at the waves ?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 09-Nov-22 07:52:16

Well they have closed the M25 at our nearest junction (10 minutes away) so they main A road is already overly busy.

It will disrupt our business yet again 🤬🤬

NanKate Wed 09-Nov-22 08:20:02

I’m sorry to hear that GG. So many people’s daily lives are being disrupted. I suspect it will continue for a while.

I’m sorry to hear that GG. So many people’s daily lives are being disrupted. I suspect it will continue for a while.

Problems will arise when company’s inside the M25 start looking to source their goods within the M25.

They will take the hit of higher prices over disrupted deliveries/supplies.

If these disruptive elements carry on there will be small enterprises going out of business and multiple job losses.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 09-Nov-22 08:27:46

As an employer why would you employ someone who has to use the M25 over anyone who doesn’t, however qualified they might be?

Working from home isn’t an option for some professions.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 09-Nov-22 08:36:02

They have just announced in the news that there has been a collision resulting in injuries as a direct result of these actions.

Do we wait for a fatality due to their actions?

JaneJudge Wed 09-Nov-22 08:41:14

I think you are right GG13 as the company I work for are being disrupted too, I imagine most companies are nr the M25 in one way or another

This is what can happen to anyone who who protests outside any building belonging to the Chinese government. This is in full view of British police.

Queen luvvy, Emily Maitless likens the protesters to Rosa Parks and the suffragettes.

Sorry so many lives have be disrupted by these idiots. Does make me laugh thought their slogan is Just Stop Oil. So does that mean olive, rape seed ,vegetable oil etc. Haven't thought their slogan through.

Do not of these people work? If they are on benefits then they need them take off them . Also a prison sentence would make them see real life.

When will these eco groups realise people come first they aren't achieving anything. They are just hurting people who are trying to get to work, medical appointments ,school etc.

They have to much time on their hands get them to do some physical labour see what real life is like.

No wonder crimes are going unsolved because the police time is taken up by them.

My favourite picture was from some time ago when a protester sat on the roof of an underground train and the commuters pulled him off and he then complained because he got beaten up. What did he expect.

I don't advocate violence but can understand why it happened.

Just Stop Oil gets most of its funding from The Climate Emergency Fund.

This is a US based network set up in 2019 to fund climate activism

Which in turn is part funded by Aileen Getty granddaddy of J Paul Getty the petroleum tycoon.

JSO is registered at Companies House, listing one director Roger Hallam.

The men were dragged into consulate grounds. When the Police were called they went in and rescued them.

How people do like to warp things to suit their own agenda🙄

M0nica Wed 09-Nov-22 14:38:46

Their wider aim is to disrupt society, to make us angry and disaffected in the hope this will leave the way open for rightwing and anarcchist groups to take over as those at the top of society.

spabbygirl Thu 10-Nov-22 11:22:56

I do agree, that is not the right way to protest

Grantanow Thu 10-Nov-22 11:25:19

This kind of protest damages people's lives and may result in deaths through blocking essential services. No doubt the protestors argue that such damage and death is marginal compared with the massive effects of climate change in the future but that doesn't wash with people whose friends and relatives are put at risk now.

Foxyferret Thu 10-Nov-22 11:29:19

I saw on twitter the French police ripping the protesters hands from the tarmac Ouch! They are going the wrong way by alienating the public. Have they considered their clothes, mobiles, trainers and possibly also their banners all contain some sort of oil. My mum is 96 and has oil central heating. She would like an alternative but cannot possibly afford it. Should we leave her to freeze to death?

Keeper1 Thu 10-Nov-22 11:45:31

I am assuming they climbed up with the traffic still moving?. So leave them there why risk emergency services lives getting them down?

sweetcakes Thu 10-Nov-22 11:49:16

I read that one gentleman missed his father's funeral he was most distraught.

PamQS Thu 10-Nov-22 12:02:03

I’m really sorry your friend’s birthday was ruined 😡 I’ve never understood the purpose of ‘stopping oil’. These demonstrators are so sanctimonious about their own views being right, they don’t care about anyone else’s views or rights, including people in need of an ambulance.

orly Thu 10-Nov-22 12:09:53

That's the problem with the general population "respecting" everyone's right to protest and demonstrate. It's OK until you are personally affected by such reckless actions. Whether it's people throwing eggs at the King or stopping traffic for hours on the motorway preventing operations or birthday treats. I hope these privileged protesters spend Christmas, New Year and Easter in jail

Nannina Thu 10-Nov-22 12:26:30

I heard a distraught man on the radio who had missed his father’s funeral due to the protesters. I think their actions are turning people off their cause, upsetting ordinary people allows the powers that be to focus on the action not on their the root c

Mauriherb Thu 10-Nov-22 12:37:18

I missed a funeral yesterday because of the protesters, and despite leaving myself extra time for the journey . Very annoying

TwiceAsNice Thu 10-Nov-22 12:55:10

There was a poor guy on the one day who missed his fathers funeral. He said he was crying in a gridlock telling his sister he wouldn’t make it. He says he’ll never forgive them and so don’t blame them. They should be responsible for the costs
