What are the things you like most in your home?

Big, small, expensive, cheap, or any other variation.

Grandchildren go without saying, so what else do you really like?

AngieLC

What ‘make’ is your dog FannyCornforth? , she’s gorgeous!,

Thank you Angie! Her mum was a Bichon frise and her dad a Tibetan Spaniel.
She has something called a ‘hot spot’ at the moment which is a type of dermatitis. She is wearing a special scarf to stop her licking it.
Here she is with her ‘sister’ Rosie

I’m with you, kittylester. I’d hate to live anywhere isolated - I’d feel vulnerable all the time, especially at night. I can walk into town, to the bus and railway stations, to the library, yet meadows and beauty spots are all nearby. It’s quiet, pretty and so accessible. Each to their own, but it suits me fine!

A mirror - 2' high and 4" wide with an elegant snowdrop motif, in a sort of art nouveau style. I saw it in the gift shop of an estate that specialises in spectacular snowdrop collections and couldn't get it out of my mind; so - when I got home, I went on line and ordered it. I found it was hand made in the west of Scotland!

Some strictly fans are going to be a bit miffed by the group dance on Strictly this weekend.

This thread is wonderful. Since posting yesterday I’ve noticed that every room I go in to I find another favourite thing, even the mug I drink from. Last night getting ready for bed I realised I was wearing my favourite pyjamas, using my favourite night cream and sleeping with my favourite man.

This is my rag rug which I made a few years ago. It was stashed away in a cupboard, half done, after a house move and I recall sitting on the floor watching Mrs Doubtfire on the telly while I completed it.

Later on, my last cat did a stress wee on it and it had to be carefully cleaned and placed on the whirly gig in the garden to dry out. Then it snowed! DH offered to tactfully dispose of it, but I insisted on getting it properly dry, first in the garage, then on a heated airer before it could be used again - so, it's been through the wars! Haven't we all. Happy to say that it is now odour-free.

I downsized 12 years ago from a 4 bed 2 public semi to a two bed flat. I love it. Its best feature is a laundry cupboard! Oh and my boiler cupboard because I put a clothes rail in it and utilise the heat to dry my clothes quickly and out of site. I think after years of laundry everywhere (3 children) I love it only being me and everything out of site. Obviously my dog is my other favourite house item lol

These are mine…

For me, it's the Regency (I think) sewing table with two shallow and one deep half-moon drawers. I know it belonged to my mother and grandmother, I like to think great-grandmother... I love having their things still.

kittylester Thu 10-Nov-22 18:35:42

Isn't it funny how different we all are?

Lots of you have talked about relishing the peace and quiet.

We really love being in the middle of the village and seeing all the busyness going past our windows. We do have canal and river walks for peace and quiet if we need it but it's not really what we want.

Love my sunroom. Use it day and evening.. Looks out to the garden, the small woodland at back of fence, watch the birds and squirrels. Can't remember last time I sat in front sitting room. GC used it for setting up car and train tracks when younger, now its for computer games.

Joseanne whover made that horse is very talented, no wonder it's a favourite thing for you.

Thank you 4allweknow. His talents are wasted as a Physics teacher, he should have made wooden toys and ornaments.
Lots of little bottoms have sat on the horse's back, sometimes two or three at a time!

My latest favourite thing. It came into our charity shop this morning and had my name on it.
I’ve always had a serious love of these yachts and was lucky enough to live next door to one.

My favourite thing is my lovely lurcher Dudley who is over 14 years old. He's a rescue so I don't know his exact age. He costs me a fortune in medication as his insurance skyrocketed after he was savaged a few years ago and we decided to cancel it. He is worth every penny and is the last of four dogs my late husband and I got from rescue centres over the years - Jack, Fergus and Lucy.
My second favourite thing is a tiny pair of clogs worn by my late Dad when he was a toddler (and by his three younger siblings). They must be about 88 years old and I cherish them

Junesun Thu 10-Nov-22 18:00:38

Haha Fannycornforth...love it what you did to Johnny depp!

Susieq62 Thu 10-Nov-22 17:57:14

I love where I live, near to the canal, train station, our allotment, WI, library, walking netball etc.
My kitchen is 4 years old and still delights me plus we adore our rescue kitten, Elsie

Happysexagenarian Thu 10-Nov-22 16:48:50

I like nearly everything about our home.
Our large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner that overlooks our big garden.
The lovely view from the garden across the village.
Our dog, of course.
My collection of children's books.
My very old wooden Noah's Ark and hand carved animals.
A beautiful hand thrown pottery vase, a gift from my husband.
And a slightly strange thing: A circular pattern formed by the branches of the tall trees on the farmland behind us. It was one of the first things I noticed when we moved here and every morning I wake up and look for it. It's oddly reassuring, I don't know why. But a few days ago I realised it's disappearing as the younger branches grow up and obscure it. I felt so sad, I shall miss it.

My brand new kitchen! I am in heaven.

Alioop Thu 10-Nov-22 15:28:13

I knocked down a bedroom wall in my bungalow and now have have big live in kitchen with patio doors to a South fscing garden. The dog and I spend so much time in there, especially in the summer with doors wide open.

Oh that is beautiful, Nankate.

I had trouble believing it wasn't a painting for a minute. Stunning.

Maywalk

You have a real knack of bringing your words to life.
No wonder that lovely brooch means so much. smile

Thankyou...MissAdventure.
Nice of you to get back to me.

Sawsage2 Thu 10-Nov-22 15:22:33

I have lived in a furnished rented bungalow for 6 years. (I use a rollator to help me walk). It's like stepping back in time: grandfather clock, old fashioned patterned carpet, 30s tie back velvet curtains, oak sideboard, the bathroom has tiny pink flowers on the sinks. But the owners kept it clean and beautiful. Feel like I'm in the house in 'Gone with the Wind' film. I love this bungalow and would hate to leave (my landlord is very nice)

Mamma7 Thu 10-Nov-22 15:22:00

I love my house, it’s very cute and cosy - a real winter house so suits the fire, candles, the Aga, furry throws …. Oh and the cat and dog……and the husband too.

Joseanne

This pet, who needs neither feeding nor walking. A family member carved him, painted him and added the finishing touches. He likes being part of Christmas in the study.

I love your beautiful rocking horse Josanne. He has such a gorgeous face.
