I'm sure CCTV will be being scanned. I just wonder if it was mindless vandalism by bored, thick, people or more meaningfully by, well, people with an unpleasant agenda.

In my view there would have been a certain amount of planing to this action, and have chosen this memorial because they realise exactly what the reaction will be.

So why the war memorial? I mean, to what end?

This act is pure evil. I hope they can be found and shamed. Disgraceful.

There has been so much on the TV from last week about this special time of remembering so they are bound to know the significance of it all and to show such disrespect and hatefulness is unbelievable.

I don't think this was a "pure evil" act. I don't think it was hateful or any of that. I do think they were probably just daft laddies doing for a "laugh". I could be wrong, we'll see.

In contrast, the children of a primary school near us researched all the men who are commemorated on the local war memorial and made a poppy for each of them. The poppies were then mounted on the gates/walls the actual houses the men had lived in.

A good project for that school. I remember my Grandad telling me about his time in the trenches. He only told me about the interesting things like how they decorated the dug outs or about the horses. Like so many he didn't talk about the unspeakably hellish sights and sounds he must have experienced.

It made an impression on me. Brought it all to life. That school project will have done that too. Well done teachers!

As an ex military wife and also a military mum my son and my daughter inlaw both serving military things like this are totally disgusting and disrespectful. Anyone who does stuff like that are just like them that displayed the flag over Churchill on Saturday totally disrespectful
