This week is Transgender Awareness week to help raise the visibility of trans and gender non conforming people and the struggles they face.

Culminating on the 20th November with a day of remembrance to remember all those across the globe who have lost their lives to transphobic violence

Glorianny
Thank you. With a few vital and truthfully made amendments, that’s a really good message.

So

^Deepest sympathy to all whose Awareness of Trans has been raised by suffering from the actions of those trans and fans
•who have made you feel vulnerable,
•or deprived you of an award
•or deprived you of the right to live your lives in peace without being damaged by the T&F actions.
Love to all who support and care for those going through such difficult issues caused by the T&F
May God bless and keep you always.
May your wishes all come true.

I thought as we haven't any trans posters on GN (I think) it would be good to hear from some trans people. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJDZ3kNAIGg

Mollygo Sat 19-Nov-22 13:51:49

Are they people who want to live in peace, unaffected by the Joke, or the T&F who have
damaged the image of trans and who agree about the damage done by T&F?
What a good idea that would be. A real trans person who could point out that to the unbelievers.
That would be really good.

I know quite a few trans people as we share a common problem.

We are No Contact with family members. Sadly in their case due to family ostrasising them or refusing to accept their transition or trying to force them into conversion therapy or having forced them into conversion therapy at a young age and damaging their mental health. Sadly this often comes with abuse tactics and gaslighting.

Sometimes we have to go No Contact with people who are abusive or controlling to the point where they cannot love and accept us as our authentic selves, preferring us either to be some sort of ideal that reflects back their vanity or a punchbag for their unresolved issues.

In life some people need scapegoats. They are unable to find joy in the same way as healthy people and instead find joy in arguments, putting others down or causing hurt and pain by inserting themselves in places they don't need to be.

Here is my message to them:

I feel for you, I feel for whatever it was that broke you. I feel for your inability to express empathy for anything or anyone that does not fall within your own experience or world view. I feel for the fact that one day, you will be left with no one but those who are like yourself and all you will ever know is a competition of misery.

No Contact means for us, when all hope for change or redeemable qualities in a person is lost, that we do not communicate, phonecalls aren't answered, messages are thrown away or left unread.

When it comes to our rights, and those rights include children, none of us ever have to take ourselves where the harm is and we do not owe any other person any of our time or energy. It is freely given or it is taken away.

I have stayed off this thread, as I can see that it was meant to show compassion to transpeople, and whilst I have serious issues with the GRA and with self-id, I share that compassion, and wish transpeople all sentiments of the Bob Dylan song quoted upthread.

However, I cannot sit by and read yet more passive aggression and 'some people' references which position anyone who disagrees as 'unhealthy', 'argumentative', 'hurtful' and unable to accept others for who they are.

That is insulting, inaccurate and highly personal, which, I think, takes it well into 'not in the spirit of Gransnet' territory.

FannyCornforth Sat 19-Nov-22 14:28:51

That transwoman at 14.14 really had nothing of interest to say.
They appeared totally obsessed with their looks.

snowberryZ Sat 19-Nov-22 14:31:41

I think people would have more empathy with the trans people if said transpeople actually went all the way to transform to their preferred sex.
Putting on a dress and taking female hormones, whilst keeping your male tackle does not make a man a woman
And vice versa.
If you're gonna do it, do it properly.

Doodledog Sat 19-Nov-22 14:34:37

I now have a Wham! earworm grin

Funny you should mention that VS as the sentiments you express are reflected in so many of your posts, presumably what makes them spring to mind when you are finding joy in arguments.

Particularly when you’re being unable to find joy in the same way as healthy people, and putting others down or inserting yourself in places where you do not need to be.

All such P-A statements with the implication of what you see as your perfection.

(Are you now the appointed arbiter of where posters can post? I must have missed that. Who appointed you?)

Equally, I feel for you, I feel for your inability to express empathy for anything or anyone that does not fall within your own experience or world view

Yes, that’s what I expect when I read your posts, though unlike you I would not be so patronising as to say it.

Such accurate self reflection does you credit, but constantly accusing others of such things, dressed up in saccharine statements like,
“My message to you . . .

That gives a very poor impression.

Three transgender people. Transman to the left, transwomen centre and right. The centre one is the Coach model.
The finale to this person's protest was shouting in the face of 81 year old Jim Fouratt, a gay rights activist from the original Stonewall riots that he is a "f*cking faggot" while being escorted away by police. Homophobia from a transwoman, surely not?
That a high profile model for a prominent brand feels absolutely entitled and secure to threaten violence against women is very revealing.

Smileless2012 Sat 19-Nov-22 15:51:06

hmm have read your summary of the link and have decided not watch it Rosie. Prefer not see any gay man being insulted in that way, especially an 81 year old who'll have lived through the darkest times of homophobia.

Rosie51 Sat 19-Nov-22 15:52:16

The gentle transpeople linked to are no problem, the ones I've linked to are.

Rosie51 Sat 19-Nov-22 15:54:17

The link is to the earlier protest not the bit where Jim is insulted.

Glorianny Sat 19-Nov-22 15:54:35

So some more trans voices to celebrate and inform on Trans Awareness week. 2 transmen tell their stories. Just a warning you may not want to watch if you are feeling a bit down. It's quite emotional. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBOOER0gPi4

What a pity you can't allow one thread to celebrate and raise Trans Awareness in a spirit of kindness and understanding Rosie51 I am sorry you feel so threatened by trans people.

Smileless2012 Sat 19-Nov-22 15:59:28

Oh right thanks Rosie.

LancashireGran Sat 19-Nov-22 16:02:53

Rosie51 are you saying that VioletSky and Glorianny are asking that trans people be shown compassion and acceptance and understanding despite evidence to show that a trans person has screamed homophobic abuse into the face of an 81 year old gay man? How can that be when they've drawn so many parallels between transphobia and homophobia? This would mean that some of the trans community is as bigoted and sectionalist as those they're demanding respect and understanding from. That can't possibly be right. Can it?

I don't feel threatened by transpeople, I do feel concerned about a movement that has loud voices trying to deny women their rights. Do you really want to wear rose coloured glasses and deny this reality? I wish they'd pipe down and leave transpeople to live peaceful lives, perhaps you need to have a word with them?
