I share in your wish Rosie.
Good Morning Sunday 2nd August 2026
This week is Transgender Awareness week to help raise the visibility of trans and gender non conforming people and the struggles they face.
Culminating on the 20th November with a day of remembrance to remember all those across the globe who have lost their lives to transphobic violence

I share in your wish Rosie.
Whilst you're at it Vio letSky you could shed a tear for the 10 year old little girl who was grabbed by the face, bundled into a supermarket toilet cubicle and told to remove her trousers so that she could be raped by an 18 year old transwoman. And another tear for her mother who was threatened with being stabbed for intervening. And perhaps one more for the little girl who suffered the same fate just weeks before in another supermarket toilet.

I think people would have more empathy with the trans people if said transpeople actually went all the way to transform to their preferred sex.
Putting on a dress and taking female hormones, whilst keeping your male tackle does not make a man a woman
And vice versa.
If you're gonna do it, do it properly.
I know very little about trans women or the whole issue of gender identity come to that - but I suspect it's a bit more complex than just doing it "properly"!
Apart from the fact that some TWs may be fearful of undergoing surgery - the prospect of which makes many people nervous trans or not; I think some possibly identify with women rather than as women and maybe don't want to transition. But, as I said, I know very little about the subject.
I do know however that as a young teen I felt more comfortable identifying with men - wearing boy's jeans, not bothering with make-up nor wanting to froufrou with nails, hair or any of the other ornamentations of femininity. A weekend rough-camping with the 'gang', sitting in the local pub with half a pint of ale in the evening and playing on the dart board, had an appeal that the dance halls and girlie nights out didn't.
But, I did not want to BE a boy. I was quite happy as a girl just being allowed to do those things that were normally reserved for the male sex, and dress in the comfortable way that they did. So I obviously identified with men, but didn't want to be one. Fortunately, for women, it raised few eyebrows if they dressed like a 'tom-boy', even back in the 50s. Men who identified with women would have had a hard time though.
I just don't think gender identity is a cut-and-dried issue (I 'grew out' of that phase in my early 20s when I met my first 'serious' boyfriend, but always retained the desire to 'inhabit' their world when I felt like it, and still do - I guess it's wanting the best of both worlds).
Oh, here we go again.
Yes, there are some very troubled and troubling trans people. Yes, most just wish to live a life like anyone else.
Most violence and sexual attacks are done, as we all know, by heterosexual men against women.
Please lets keep a sense of proportion! Where are the constant gransnet threads to address this?
WyllowI've made a decision not to address this on this thread.
This thread is not about disgusting criminals
This thread is about good people living positive lives.
Tomorrow is about those who have lost their lives
I think lots of people can identify with your post Dickens and that's what should be happening now, freedom to be yourself, enjoy the activities you enjoy, dress how you like........but respect the few single sex spaces where sex is the overriding concern, and don't expect women to have to give up their words. It's fairly ridiculous when 51% of the world's population, adult human females, won't have a word that describes them exclusively. Females of animals have their specific word, why not human females? A bull, even when it becomes a bullock, isn't called a cow or a heifer.
Your right Wyllow3, we really need to have a celebratory week looking for understanding and acceptance for Ordinary People Who Live Their Lives Causing No Trauma or Harm to Others. That would include heterosexuals, gays, lesbians, trans and those that have a foot in all camps or just can't decide. They're a hugely overlooked group who regularly get pushed aside, silenced and compromised by other more vocal minority groups. I'll light a candle for them tomorrow night.
glorianny that video was so beautiful I watched it twice
There is so much good in this world and so much happiness to celebrate.
Like the father in your video who gained a son
Decent people living positive lives often don't get shouted out
This is why we have trans awareness and woman's days and black history, to shout out the amazing beautiful people amongst us and hold each other up
I don't know if anyone is aware of this but there is actually an awareness calender of events
I came across it recently and think it would be an amazing thing if people on gransnet could create threads to share, especially events close to their own hearts

Thanks VioletSky I thought it was so good to hear two stories from transmen and the difficulties they had been through.
I loved it when Cal said about his mum e-mailing him back using his new name.
And the military dad who was so much loser to his son when he knew the real person,
You do cry but it is so uplifting as well.
LancashireGran I’m horrified by the story of the 10 year old girl and the so called transwoman. But of course this will be swept under the carpet by some on this thread.
I have 2 grandsons 11 an 9 and I worry about their safety too from any pedophiles.
What a sickening world we live in.
This thread gets better and better.
It ignores any support for those trans whose lives have been damaged by Trans and TRA activities.
If you take out the posts of those who have tried to include that group, you are left with Mimi and a self congratulatory echo chamber of people purporting to be all about trans, but only those trans whom they choose to support. The rest can just get on with it.
Still, it’s worth watching, just in case there is a sudden awakening of awareness of what they are doing.
I agree it is a shame that people cannot allow one thread in support of decent everyday trans people who aren't doing harm
Especially when there is an average of 2 threads a week to talk about issues people have with trans people
But I think that doesn't harm the thread in general as people are representative of themselves and it's still a space for those of us who want to share support for those who need it
I haven't seen any threads that talk about issues people have with trans people. That is a misrepresentation of the other threads in this subject, giving the impression that those threads are transphobic.
It is the behaviour of some trans that's discussed, together with genuine concerns regarding women's safe spaces, unfair competition in sports and valid concerns about proposed changes to the law.
I agree that people are representative of themselves on this thread as with all threads on GN.
Tomorrow I will light a candle for them.

Violetsky, I want to point out what appears to be a block in your reasoning here (I would say cognitive bias but I’m not sure that fits correctly and I don’t know enough about the concept to use the term). There have been threads that you personally have had an issue with (like others have here), specifically posts by parents of adult children or grandparents about their younger family members, where you steer the thread off its tracks, as you say has been done here, by choosing to needle the poster over the way they phrase things. In those instances once others tell you how unhelpful it is, you throw out all the stops that everyone else has here in defense of their opposing ideas, that you, only now that the tables are turned, find it appropriate to use in your defense. So what I’m saying is that you seem to consider yourself justified in both instances using the same lines yet no one else is unless they happen to agree with you on the subject at hand. Basically, you can’t have it both ways. I don’t know that there is any aspect in the two instances I’ve described to differentiate why one is okay but the other isn’t, the comparison looks identical.

Just a reminder
This thread isn't about me and as much as people may not like me or my advice on some issues, making it personal to me isn't helpful or productive
This thread is not about criminals or disgusting people harming innocents either
This thread is about ordinary every day trans people living good lives
So forgive me but I won't engage about off topic things and as much as others can say what they wish on any thread, I do not have to engage with them
The parents of trans children talk about their experience and offer support to others www.google.com/search?q=parents+of+transgender+people+talk&sxsrf=ALiCzsbS4mjLEJEV4Qf59pcdb3bLXfQOJw:1668889565785&source=lnms&tbm=vid&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjAovONirv7AhWUbcAKHXCcBlgQ_AUoAnoECAIQBA&biw=1440&bih=535&dpr=1#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:f9de62ac,vid:ihkEf1Tk1e4

This may not be about you, VS, but it's not for lack of trying.
Making sure everyone knows about your rather futile gesture could very easily be misinterpreted as virtue-signalling, you know.
That's lovely Glorianny

Funny isn't it there is usually a thread about wearing poppies. I wonder is everyone who wears one virtue signalling and making a rather futile gesture?
Or simply remembering and recognising a group of people they care about. Just as lighting a candle for trans people is.
My sense of humour clearly differs from yours as I rarely find the things you do 'funny'.
I've never known anyone tell others they were going to buy a poppy - have you? Most people just quietly go about doing what makes them feel good. Poppies also raise money for war veterans - they are not futile at all.
