Good morning from the NE where we had heavy overnight rain.
Had a lovely day with DS and GD2, love to hear her playing the piano. I have a traditional piano, she has an electric one and the feel of the keys is not the same so she likes to practise on mine.
I am a member of an antiquarian society and we have just been informed that one of our historians has died. He gave talks on every aspect of local history but as an ex policeman his knowledge of historical crimes was phenomenol. He had a captive audience whenever he gave talks, he was also the author of many local history books.
SIL coming this afternoon, we will make dinner together, tonight we are going to have pork medallions in a wholegrain mustard sauce served with roast root vegetables.
Good to hear your family have found a home, I used to live in Cumbria and I know how difficult it is to acquire affordable housing. Where I lived rented accommodation was prohibitive and I was just outside of the national park.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest coast.
DS still here and cooked a chicken last night, then we watched some tv. DS, DD in south and yours truly had a face time which lasted two hours fifty minutes😳 DS tried to put an extra piece in my watch as it’s now too tight on my wrist, to no avail, will take it to a watch shop. I had booked a ticket for a local play, just for myself, but having DS here was so nice, I didn’t go and think of it as a donation to the theatre.

Final rehearsal with band here this afternoon, so will have a tidy up.
Haven’t read through properly yet, but thoughts to anyone with worries.

Megs36 Sun 20-Nov-22 10:52:37

Good morning all, nearly afternoon but I’ m still in my dressing gown, must get moving meals on wheels here soon.
Bad news from consultant yesterday, biopsy confirmed my suspicions, lung cancer, operation and radio therapy not possible, too widespread. Conventional chemo mentioned but immunotherapy ,targeted treatment maybe considered, depending on a couple more reports on biopsy. Will meet oncologist in the next couple of weeks for discussion. how did this happen, always been fit, never ill , ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 all familyquitestrong, a few tears but trying to hold up. Think of me!

Good morning from a dank Co Armagh,
Nothing planned for today , I’m hiding in Neighbours house while my lovely Latvian lady works her magic in my house , if I don’t leave we spend the time talking and laughing 😂

Bluesapphire I would have liked to have been at the Gurkha remembrance service. DH served with them in Borneo just after we got married and they were very special to him, as they are to me. “Ayo Gorkhali”! Roughly translated - “The Gurkhas are upon you”. They were such good mannered, gentle chaps, if you didn’t know, you would have wondered where they got their fearsome reputation.

I like the cauliflower cheese that comes frozen in a bag. The ones from Lidl and Aldi are particularly nice. Adding cheese on top is compulsory though.

Another hack is using half fat creme fraiche instead of a roux when making a cheese sauce.

‘Food hacks’ I like that Gala! 😁
Yes I’m all for short cuts after almost 50 years in the kitchen. I do my own roasties though!

I desperately need some food hack lessons 🤣

Good morning Mick and everyone. It’s cloudy and bright in my corner of Lancashire. Currently 8°C.

I haven’t read the thread properly yet, only skimmed, just want to wish MOMB and her guests a successful outcome today.

Wishing you all a Happy Sunday 🌻

Good morning from Durham where I can’t believe it isn’t still raining! My plans for today for a walk with DGS1 in the deep dark woods, followed by an hour with DGS2 have been thwarted, as Amazon is delivering an item which must be accepted by someone over 18 and signed for. I have plenty to do around the house and I may even make a start on my Christmas cards, although I’ve made a decision to cut them down quite drastically to my friends and family, rather than DH’s friends and relations, most of whom I didn’t know and never saw.
Nice to see a few familiar names returning to the GM thread, I often think of ‘sheep’ and wonder where GSMum has gone.
Best wishes to all. X

Of course it is fairfraise the same date in Scotland too!😂🤯

Morning Mick and All

Thanks Mary and NannyJ DH much improved other than losing his taste. I have a sore throat and cough so I am glugging down hot fresh lemon and honey 🍯 which has done the trick. Will see a bit later if I am positive, 3 negatives so far, how strange. 😷

fairfraise Sun 20-Nov-22 09:42:57

Good morning all from South Wales. Kalu the winter solstice here is 21st December!wink

Gala Sun 20-Nov-22 09:42:25

Me too*Urms*. I 'customise' mine with a bit of grated cheese on top (I have been known to use a cheese slice when needs must🤭). After 50+ years of cooking from scratch & all that endless prepping I have now become adept at cheating. I prefer to call them 'food hacks'. 😬

luluaugust Sun 20-Nov-22 09:39:06

Good morning all from a wet W Kent. Wrapping Xmas presents today and cooking some pork chops found in the freezer.
Best wishes to all

Kalu Sun 20-Nov-22 09:28:08

Good morning all from Glasgow where it is currently damp with patches of blue sky. Winter Solstice tomorrow and the days will start to slowly begin to get lighter before sunset.

So pleased to hear your Ukrainian family may have found a home of their own MOMB. I am sure this family are so grateful for the kindness you have shown, taking them in to your own home and all you have done for them.
17yr old GD1’s quandary at the moment is, finding a dress for. next years prom, formerly known as the school ball! Eye watering prices for a dress which will be worn for a few hours, Granny is having to zip it as I am not saying what she wants to hear. 😄

Best wishes to all for a good day and a better day for all with worries and illness.

Some photos of Winchester from yesterday.

BlueSapphire Sun 20-Nov-22 09:13:30

Good morning everyone from a bright dry Northampton, but showers are forecast this afternoon.

It was a beautiful day yesterday in Winchester, bright sunshine and thankfully dry. Sadly the cathedral was closed to visitors as they had performances of The Nutcracker on, but they had a service on when I enquired, and they can't stop you going to services so in I went. It was a Remembrance service for the Gurkhas and was rather lovely, including a lament played by a Gurkha bagpiper.

Then I had a good wander around the many stalls in the Christmas market, and enjoyed a German Bratwurst and a glass of mulled wine. The afternoon was spent in the city centre exploring the many shops. Arrived back in Northampton at 6pm and had not long to wait to get a bus home.

A busy afternoon ahead; it is our dance school Tapathon for Children in need. Apparently all those taking part all over the country have learnt the same routine to the same music and we'll all be performing it at the same time. Then we also have a chance to show off other short routines we've learnt, and after that a quick change into ballet shoes to do the same but with ballet routines instead. That will be followed by cake and tea/coffee and a quiz, which my team won last year.

Home to pork chop and roast potatoes, and time to put my feet up!

GrannySomerset Sun 20-Nov-22 09:00:31

An empty day beckons so I could usefully do some clothes sorting though I seem to lack the will power. Perhaps I will feel the urge if I only get started rather than talk about it. Meanwhile the sun is shining and I am looking for other blessings to count as I send good wishes to all our posters who are having a less than easy time.
