Case Blanca is 80 years old and timeless.

We went to a screening of Casa Blanca at the Curzon in Ripon today, it was just magical.
I have never seen the film before which made it more special.
It was a wonderful way to spend a chilly Saturday afternoon.

Lauren Bacall obviously agreed with you Yammy.

Don’t suppose Bogie would have given me a second glance!

What I would have given to look like Lauren Bacall. Don't suppose Bogie would have given me a second look either.
There's always a kind gentle side to a naughty boy somewhere. If I had listened to my mother I wouldn't be sitting where I am perfectly content. Mine is like the Bruce Springstein song "Tougher than the rest,' but turns out an excellent Silent night in German every Christmas Eve for me.grin

I’m sure this is heresy but I never really”got” Casa Blanca and I have never liked Ingrid Bergman (or indeed many of the so-called “greats” like Bette Davis - IMO they both overact appallingly! )

I saw Ingrid Bergman on stage in 1971, I think, in Shaw's Captain Brassbound's Conversion at the Cambridge Theatre. A three-hander, alongside Kenneth Williams and Joss Ackland. I have to say she was rather wooden, but it was wonderful to have seen her in live action at all, and she looked gorgeous of course. Kenneth Williams was amazing too, in a straight role.

My favourite all time actress though is Katherine Hepburn who always portrays a strong female in every part she plays. Her stoical natural character still came through in African Queen.

Ooh yes, absolutely! And Katherine Hepburn, along with Rosalind Russell, were the only two women who could hold their own alongside the wonderful Cary Grant.

Bringing Up Baby is the funniest film ever, no contest.

Absolutely, and talking of male stars Cary Grant was the very best. I can still watch him in any of his films and swoon over him.

There's a lovely description of the making of African Queen here
