What’s in your garden?

As it’s such a cold day, I intend to stay inside, but was out early to feed the birds.
At the moment, there’s half a dozen blue tits on the fat ball hanger, while three fat wood pigeons, a pair of black birds, a magpie, and a robin are attacking the seed mix on the ground.
What’s in yours?

Blue tits great tit long tail tits constantly feeding from the suet balls. Resident robin chasing blackbirds and wood pigeons. Every day squirrels wait outside the kitchen door for me to put the nuts out. A female actually takes them from my hand since the end of May. A timid little mouse has been been eating scraps fallen from a fat ball this morning. I spend a lot of time watching the garden visitors and have done since I was very young.

Our shared garden is full of foxes. So sadly we can’t feed the birds as we would like to. Neighbours feed them so the squirrels and birds don’t stand a chance. Such a shame.

Some of your gardens sound absolutely wonderful - teaming with wildlife. I had 2 hedgehogs who came every night to feed a few months ago, so I hope they’re safely hibernating in the little house hidden in the corner of my garden. This isn’t an area for squirrels, so I was delighted to have one (unfortunately a grey) visiting in January and bought proper squirrel food for it and named it Hazel - I hope it comes back.
An apple is going out every day for the blackbirds, the wood pigeons are getting fatter on all the seed, and I can barely keep up with the fat balls for the tits! I’ve special food for my robins, but it’s a free for all out there - I don’t mind, as they all need to feed to live.
It’s such a pleasure to watch them, from inside a warm house.

I heard an owl out hunting last night - not heard that since last Spring.

We haven't heard our resident owl for a while. I hope he/she is ok.

I get doves, and piegeons daily. Also a cheeky little robin comes to feed on birdtable too. Tuesday my neighbours were here for a cuppa and we spotted through the window a heron flying overhead and landing on the tall conifers at the back. We were all fascinated to see this. It looked like a prehistoric bird with long neck and legs and massive beak. Cats are visiting too as foot prints in the snow.

A plate of oatmeal boiled in a little water and quite a lot of olive oil. Cooled, and placed under the crabapple tree to give them a change from the crabapples. They did nor even taste it. I think the fallen crabapples may have become alcoholic.
