I first had a suspected gallstone attack in August 2021, then a few more over the following weeks, and realised each one had been after eating beef (mince, roast, pie) or lamb (chops). I sadly cut those out, then had an attack after a dessert with whipped cream, so cut out cream, then after over-indulging chocolate. All good for a few months, then I had a venison burger and ended up in A&E last spring with pain, and 12 hours of incessant vomiting. Ultrasound only showed “gravel” rather than measurable stones, no huge urgency to remove the gall bladder, I just forgot that venison is red meat so it’s off limits.
All good then, still eating chicken and fish, and greatly increased the quantity and variety of vegetables and fruit, easily topping the “30 plants a week” suggestion. And my digestive system responded with horrendous IBS. On to the low FODMAP elimination diet since October and I’m slowly re-introducing foods that are potential triggers.
I now know I can’t eat leeks, onions, cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms, any pulses, apples, plums, cherries, dried fruit, cashews.
For my first 65 years I could eat anything, I hate having to be so cautious.
