Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark and wet outside here in Brackley this morning.
I think I have a cold so will take the day as it comes had plans to go to Bicester but thinking otherwise.
Take Care,
Mick

grandMattie Fri 23-Dec-22 06:13:08

Good morning from Bristol. It is also dark here, and I think it’s raining.
Iris came up with a corker of a quiz question yesterday, which had us in fits… “which of Santa’s reindeer has the same name as @ Roman god?” She then helpfully told us it began with Q. Unable to think of any, DD and I gave up. “Cupid”, was her answer. 🤣😂
Busy day with the girls coming an£ going, the parents were at work. We finally finished “cementing” the gingerbread house together. Unfortunately, the icing takes a while to dry, so we won’t be decorating it until today. Parents are off so we’ll be going out for a long walk and probably a pub lunch.
SiL always does the big meal, so we shall probably be given preparation tasks soon.
Hope everyone has a good day. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Ashcombe Fri 23-Dec-22 06:20:41

Good morning, all from a wet Torbay.

Staying in the warm is the better plan, Mick, if you have a cold. Be kind to yourself and enjoy plenty of hot drinks.

Yesterday morning, I survived the Lidl shop although I needed to sit down whilst DH put the items through the till. We were served by a favourite cashier who told us he would be working from 05.00 today until 14.00. It was busy with many folk having same idea as us.

Later I collected my prescription and delighted the staff with a box of QS to thank them for their unfailingly friendly and courteous service throughout the year.

Thank you for all the encouraging comments yesterday morning; on Boxing Day, it will be eight weeks since my heart surgery so, generally, I’m happy with progress.

Kind thoughts to those going through difficult times, especially those with family illness or a bereavement. 🦩⛄️🎄🎅🏼🦩

BlueBalou Fri 23-Dec-22 06:30:10

Good morning everyone from a very wet Wiltshire, it’s pouring down 🙄
Yesterday I finished DGC1’s socks and started another pair , this time for DDIL. I hope to get them posted next week when hopefully the Mail will have returned to some resemblance of normality.
Ocado shop this morning, I need to get the fridge cleared a bit first.
I hope today goes well for you all x

cornergran Fri 23-Dec-22 06:43:20

Morning Mick, morning All from a soggy corner of Somerset.

Enjoyed our grocery shop yesterday, not as busy as I’d feared. A long chat with a friend in the afternoon and that was my day other than getting soaked walking round the corner to check on a friends home. Heard our Littlest is very poorly, he’s stoic and doesn’t complain. A UTI and a chest infection. It took visits to 5 separate pharmacies to locate the prescribed antibiotics. A real shortage. Will check how he is later, hard not to worry.

Rest today mick, silly to push yourself. You’re right to be happy with your progress ash. Hope your walk is dry grandmattie.

Look after yourselves everyone. Hope Friday is kind to us all.

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 23-Dec-22 06:52:39

Good morning from Oxfordshire, not sure about the weather yet.
A good time to take a rest Mick enjoy your relaxing day.
GM it sounds as though you are having fun, a not to be underestimated feeling, so pleased for you.
Ash only 8 weeks! Look how far you’ve come.
Cornergran hope your littlest one is soon better.

I’m having a day off today, 2 beds to remake and some laundry drying still do to, so many huge towels to wash and dry after the visitors left and then I’m done, we still have a few left over veg from Wednesday and MrOops love Bubble and Squeak so along with some crispy bacon that’s his dinner for tonight.

Hope everyone has a good day, best wishes to those who are sad and feeling low.

harrigran Fri 23-Dec-22 07:02:28

Good morning from the NE where we had overnight rain.
Another quiet day for me as I sorted GDs gifts yesterday.
GD2 arrived home from Italy and said she had loved her ski trip and would like to go again, a girl after my own heart.
I had a Christmas card by special delivery the other day, someone paid £6.85 to ensure that I received it shock . A very caring person who always thinks of others.
Today I will watch another TV series that I have been saving for the long winter nights.
Take car all and have a good day.

glammagran Fri 23-Dec-22 07:04:52

Good morning and a pre-emptive Happy Christmas to you all.

The last 6 days have been truly awful. DGC came over with DD on Sunday afternoon when the 20 month old threw up. He’s never sick. By the evening he had a 39.9° temperature and was very lethargic. Next day he was prescribed amoxicillin for a throat, ear and eye infection. DGD then got similar symptoms with vomiting and a high temperature but very much milder. Following another GP visit for both of them DGD was given no more antibiotics as she had some a fortnight ago. This afternoon it was apparent DGS was really poorly having not eaten since Sunday am and was sleeping nearly all the time so his parents took him to A&E. He’s been admitted and swabs taken tested positive for RSV on top of his bacterial infection. His oxygen levels are currently on the low side. We were frantic with worry as we were sure he had strep A as he had all the symptoms. He is exactly the same age now as his mother was when she got sepsis after a severe ear infection. My poor daughter has not really slept since Saturday night as he’s clung to her like a limpet day and night and she’s hosting 12 of us on Christmas Day (she’ll get lots of help). There’s a good chance DGS will be out tomorrow so long as his oxygen levels improve. I think the RSV was caught from my husband who has been coughing non stop for 2 weeks and is quite unwell himself (we have DGS one day a week). He constantly picks up infections from his nursery he goes to one day a week. It’s so hard as how much time can a working parent take off? Nurseries can’t take ill children.

Got everything needed for Christmas now. Tomorrow we have relatives from Luxembourg staying overnight en route to Devon but will put them off if we have to.

So sorry to read about shocking news of loved ones. Best wishes to everyone who is poorly.

karmalady Fri 23-Dec-22 07:16:31

Good morning from s somerset. It`s raining, it`s pouring.

So sorry to hear about so many being poorly and the worries with little ones. I used to draw my small family together and closed the door on anyone else when my little ones were so ill. Peace and quiet is what is needed

An easy day today with some brightness and a candle to mark day two of the 12 days of yule

Susan56 Fri 23-Dec-22 07:19:52

Good morning from Shropshire.

I am so sorry to hear of so many little ones unwell and the shortage of antibiotics is very worrying.DD2 spent two days trying to source antibiotics for DGS.DD has a chest infection which has exacerbated her asthma.Luckily she arrived at the pharmacy as their delivery arrived and was able to get all her medication.I hope the little ones feel better soon and that your DD gets some rest glammagran.

Hopefully a quiet morning here then this afternoon we will go over to DD1’s.SIL and DD are doing the tractor run tonight so we will look after the children while they decorate the tractor and then will go to see them when they drive through the village later.

Have the best day you can everyone.🎄🎅🏼

Good morning from a dark, wet but mild Colchester. I have just been reading about the blizzards in the US and am grateful for our grim climate here.
Today's plan is to potter ahead of a busy weekend. We have enough food to feed an army but DD wants to eat out tonight. They are staying with her in laws who live a short walk from us so it'll be a last minute decision.
Love to all 🦩 x

ginny Fri 23-Dec-22 07:28:17

Good morning everyone.
Finished all the gift wrapping yesterday and the food shopping. Got a bit carried away in the local deli. Everything looked so delicious.
Hope to finish rest if Christmas jobs this morning.
This afternoon Y am off to the Pantomime ( Oh Yes I am) with t the two little DGS, DDs2&3 and SIL
First time the youngest has been.

Sorry to hear of all the poorly people and little ones. Sending healing thoughts.
Wishing all a good day.

baubles Fri 23-Dec-22 07:33:34

Good morning all from cloudy South Lanarkshire.

Take it easy Mick, this cold/flu virus is a nasty one.

Good to hear that you’re doing so well Ashcombe.

So sorry to hear about the little ones being ill, sending prayers for them. Our own GC who has been so ill this week is recovering slowly, I understand the worry.

I’ve a million and one things to do today starting with a hair appointment in an hour’s time so I’d better get cracking. I’ll be wearing a mask as I’m coughing a lot and want to avoid spreading it around.

Thinking of everyone feeling under par especially Marydoll.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Beechnut Fri 23-Dec-22 07:34:12

Good Morning everyone from Severnside. It’s still very dark and raining.

Tractor runs are becoming popular aren’t they. It’s nice to see all the old ones and they look so tiny up against the monsters of today. A bit like the old mini and the new one.

I’ve ironing and a hospital appointment today and then I will potter.

I hope all the poorly people feel better soon and everyone has a good day 🎄🦩

dragonfly46 Fri 23-Dec-22 07:34:37

Good morning from dark breezy Leicestershire.

So sorry to hear about your little ones Glammagran I hope things improve soon.

Having had two panics this week with the Dutch tax office and the car I was waiting for the third.
Sure enough it came in the form of a text from DD at 5.30pmwho was supposed to exchange contracts on their new house. Apparently the solicitor needed extra information from me concerning a loan and I needed to confirm my identity. Apparently there is an app you can use to scan my passport in.

After a couple of hours it got sorted and when I thanked the solicitor she told me she was ill with a chest infection.
Hopefully contracts will be exchanged this morning.

DD and SiL travelling up tonight with doggy so looking forward to seeing them.

Wishing everyone a good day.

Jaxjacky Fri 23-Dec-22 07:44:39

Morning all from a very wet S Hampshire. We’ve been lucky avoiding the water crisis others around us are going through, Southern Water are dire.
Started the defrosting rota earlier, duck and gammon out of the freezer, turkey will be tonight, before bed, I need to sort out fridge space too. Bathrooms will also get a quick clean.
So many poorlies this morning, especially youngsters, here’s hoping all are on the mend quickly.
A worthy çelebration Ash.
Enjoy your day all 🦩🦩

Grandmabatty Fri 23-Dec-22 07:46:58

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 2° and raining. Sorry to hear that you are feeling unwell Mick. Get better soon. Grandmattie Iris made me smile.
Yesterday my aunt and uncle arrived with Christmas gifts. Fortunately they got in touch first so I had a mad hour cleaning and tidying and wrapping their presents. It was nice to see them and to hear about their Antarctica adventure. Later mum phoned to tell me she's cancelled going to dd for Christmas dinner. I am furious with her. She has form for this but has never cancelled Christmas before. I'm just anticipating her cancelling New Years Day at my house.
Today I'll go to Tesco for some bit and pieces. I have a couple of cards and gifts to deliver them back home to wait for the plumber to fit my new shower. And finish wrapping presents. Sausage and mash for dinner. Have a good day all.

kittylester Fri 23-Dec-22 07:47:34

Good morning all from North Leicestershire where the weather is, presumably, very similar to dragonfly's.

I am sorry to hear of poorly people especially the children.

Today is a big day as I am having my hair cut and coloured for the first time since July!

dragonfly46 Fri 23-Dec-22 07:53:21

Hey great news kitty what a boost that will give you!

brook2704 Fri 23-Dec-22 07:54:55

Good morning everyone from Cambridge where it looks like a grey and wet day
So sorry to hear of so many poorly little ones and families, especially glammagran, I hope your DGS is out of hospital very soon. The shortage of meds is a real worry too. Wishing everyone as quick a recovery as possible
Yesterday we all enjoyed a lovely family day out, a short walk around the local country park in the morning and then festive afternoon tea in town. We all wore our Christmas jumpers! Today my plans are to travel back home to Inverness so I’m keeping everything crossed due to travel disruptions. There’s delays and some cancellations on the trains to the airport but as my flights domestic the border force issue shouldn’t affect me. I’ve warned DD1 that I might be back sooner than planned!
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Marydoll Fri 23-Dec-22 08:00:41

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where its 3°C.

Mick, best to be sensible and stay in. I understand that you enjoy the social aspect of the trips to Bicester, but you don't want another collapse and having to spend Christmas in hospital.
What a terrible time your family is having, glammagran. 💐

I was supposed to pick up my turkey from the butcher's today, but DS1 is going for it, 🥰 because I'm feeling under the weather. Thank goodness I have a Tesco delivery this morning, I couldn't face going out. I hope the rain stays off long enough , for the trays to be emptied.

I may be mistaken, but I haven't noticed Gwen posting, I hope she is ok and that Baubles wee one is on the mend.

Enjoy all the busyiness today folks.

Nannagarra Fri 23-Dec-22 08:04:31

Good morning from Sefton.
Pictured is Liverpool’s iconic exceedingly bare statue seen on our way home from the Spirit of Christmas at The Philharmonic last night. This magnificent carol concert is one of the highlights of the season for us.
The nail bar, a click and collect and food shop at Sainsbury’s (not local, so more gadding about the city) will keep me busy today.
Whatever your plans, enjoy Friday.

NanKate Fri 23-Dec-22 08:04:57

Good morning Mick and All.

A damp day in prospect in West Sussex.

The DGSs will arrive here tomorrow at their Dad’s having been with their mum a week. They both have colds so I suspect DH and myself will catch it 🤧🤧 Sorry to hear about the other poorly children.

I’m glad we arrived a day early, I suspect it will be very slow going on the M25 today.

Grandmadinosaur Fri 23-Dec-22 08:14:32

Good morning all from East Yorkshire.

Gosh the last two mornings have been so dark I’ve had trouble motivating myself getting out of bed. I’m also starting to feel pretty shattered with all the doings of the season.

I got a lot done yesterday shopping, wrapping etc then had a short visit from DS and GS after tea.

I feel like having a quiet day today so will see how that goes. I do need to make sausage rolls and fetch out and wash the Christmas crockery. DH as usual is oblivious to what needs doing I think he thinks I’m Mary Poppins clicking fingers and it’s done. I can’t wait for my empty this evening.

My heart goes out to grans with poorly GC and fingers crossed they will feel better soon.

Safe travels brook you’ve had a very festive time with your Cambridge family.

Hope you feel better soon Mick .

Marydoll hope you don’t overdo things. Easier said than done when you want things done ‘your way’ as I well know!

Have a good day everyone.

Nannagarra Fri 23-Dec-22 08:29:50

Sorry to hear about those who are unwell; glammagran what an awful time for you.
