Snobbery- many different forms

Lidl cheese and charcuterie is excellent. As is their chocolate

I'm an egg snob

I have preferences for knitting yarn - I love cashmere but if not I use merino or other natural fibres only. It’s my hobby as well as clothing so I indulge myself even though it costs more.

On the same lines, I don’t like fake leather or anything passing itself off as being a natural product but really man-made. Handbags, shoes, sofas - no ‘pleather’ or ‘suedette’ thanks. (Apologies to vegans here).

I’m not a brand label snob, but do check labels for the fibre content- a bit of a blend will sometimes get through, but I am a purist at heart .

I would rather have tea as instant coffee but I’m fine about teabags over leaf tea, and happy with supermarket tea. I am happy with supermarket brands in general, and not bothered if it’s Aldi or Waitrose, and definitely don’t look down on people with different preferences - I just hope they don’t make me a cup of coffee

I am a plastic bag snob. It has to be Waitrose or M and S. Nothing else bothers me

I have noticed lots of comments on GN where posters describe something as ‘good’ as in good coffee, good cheese, etc. Do they mean expensive or just a brand they like? We all have preferences, but not always linked to cost.

I can only answer for myself, but for me with coffee I prefer it less processed, I like beans that I can grind myself, and a particular blend. Instant coffee tastes revolting to me because it’s had all the oomph taken out it is the best way I can describe it. It shouldn’t logically be more expensive to buy coffee beans, but it definitely is, and other people see you as a coffee snob if you seek out only the blend you like best.

I don't drink usual tea, only Earl Grey with lemon which always makes me sound a bit of a prima donna, but I don't like milk. So, when we have an away bowls match, afterwards it is tea and biscuits...no thanks to tea, no thanks to instant (sometimes powder!!) coffee, so I end up with a glass of water. I must be earning a reputation for difficult to please, but I just don't get the obsession with a 'nice cup of tea'.

As far as I can see there is only one snob here ( so far) 😉
Everything else is preference.

I am a snob where vulgar behaviour is concerned where people show off. I really do look down my nose at name droppers, the ego brigade and conversational bores. I don't say anything, just politely remove myself as it jars on my sense of balance, beauty and harmony.

Dark chocolate, well Bournville is ok but I much prefer milk chocolate.
I have to have PG Tips, at a push Tetley, but not any shops own!
I love a good gin, but am happy with Aldi's as well as M&S.
I'm not bothered by 'names' but if I saw a nice item of clothing in a charity shop that fitted me, I might buy it if ut was reasonably priced - I had a lovely Timberland sweatshirt a few years ago!
Washing powder...well darn it, I'm allergic to Persil and shops own brands, so I stick to Surf!
Cheap copy perfumes are a no-no, too.
So, I guess, because of allergies, I'm a bit of a snob haha.

I wear dresses 90% of the time and buy them in online sales, often paying no more than £20 for something with a much higher starting price. Who could tell? It’s nonsense to judge on the potential expenditure of an item.
Snobbery is all about judging others. Surely what was meant was personal preference - unless there is some ‘judging’ going on….

In the days before all plastic bags had to be bought I always turned any inside out that I had to pay for; refused to personally pay to advertise a store/company no matter how cheap the bags were.
Now we have to pay for all bags I always take my own cotton tote bag. Sorted.

When I said I was a malt whisky snob, I don’t look down on people who drink blended scotch - I hate it, but DH drank it all the time; he couldn’t be bothered with the subtleties of malt. I am a brand snob. There are some I don’t think are worth spending good money on. Unfortunately now, I can’t afford the ones that are, so “how are the mighty fallen”!

Ali, nought wrong with milk chocolate, as long as it has actual chocolate in it (and not palm oil and sugar- for many reasons, as well as taste (not 'taste' but taste, as in tastes good )

I'm paranoid I'm the only snob but with eggs you really do get what you pay for. I buy Burford browns if I can't get organic free range ones in our farm shop, which we can't atm as I guess they've all stopped laying because of lack of sunlight and avian flu!

I did wonder if it was Black Bomber but it was even better imo. It wasn't round, it was an oblong and really, it was one of the best cheese I've ever eaten too.

It was made in Cheshire, I think.

I'm a cup snob - tea only tastes nice to me if it's in a China cup! And as for tea or coffee in glass mugs or cups - no, most definitely no!

It is indeed just amazing, I agree. That with the best Stilton, and I am in heaven. British cheeses were just appearing on EU markets and having such great success- teaching the French and others a thing or two about great cheese- when sadly (won't say the word). What a shame.
