Once again when I sat down to do a bit of mending I looked through my needles and heard my mother saying " Please thread me a needle and not a dagger " . It never fails .

Cuddling the dog I hear mum say not to put my face next to the dog’s head. She didn’t trust dogs. I trust mine and do it despite the warning voice in my head.

My dad died when I was 5 but I can still remember him cleaning the shoes and teaching me about elbow grease a wonderful product.
If I rolled my sleeves up DG would ask if I was planning to do a day's washing.

Yes and I love it. Cooking …Mom is there, as well as cleaning. Dad is there when I’m gardening or working on the lawn…sometimes grilling. Makes me feel good.

Going out without a vest my Dad would say I'd be sorry when i was older as I'd have a bad back! The chill I suppose!

My MIL would warn about your kidneys getting chilled.
The vests had to be long.

She'd be horrified if she could see her DGGGD!

I came out with
“Would you be as quick in my grave?” to DS the other day when he sat in MY chair. My father used to say it.
He was a miserable bu##er.

Dinnae cast a cloot, till May is oot!
Do not discard warm clothing at glimpses of the sun cos it is freezing still - Scotland lol

Oh yes, the English version too.
Cast ne'er a clout
'Til May is out

Is it the month or the flower?

My mother had a thing about vests.
I was allowed to leave the vest off at Whitsun and start wearing summer dresses.

My dad would often say ‘You haven’t washed your neck’ and he was usually right. 😏

I swear my mum was psychic when it came to knowing about unwashed necks, untucked vests, and other crimes against all that is decent. smile
She checked necks, random spot checks, and we betide anyone who had a "tide mark".

Yes I too feel sorry for those without happy memories of their parents. I loved mine dearly and still miss them. 'Least said soonest mended '! Oh, and ' The soft answer turneth away wrath ' That actually does work, well, sometimes!!

At the end of everyday, when I am sitting down, I can hear my mother saying ''Someone bring me a coffee made with milk please''She would say this every day when she eventually sat down on an evening. It was her version of a latte,a cup full of hot milk with a teaspoon of instant coffee stirred in.
When ever we asked our grandmother if she would be going to any event her stock reply was ''I will be there if The Lord spares me''

"Oi! Pack that up your head will cave in" if "some person" was caught picking her nose. blush

Casdon Fri 30-Dec-22 21:01:26

When she was surprised by anything my nana always said ‘Well, I’ll go to our house!’ No idea why, and I’ve never said it myself, but I think of her saying it when something happens.

Wyllow3 Fri 30-Dec-22 20:49:59

I hear my Mum saying "your head will never save your legs" when I go up or come downstairs without something that needed to be taken up or down

I can hear my Mum saying "Will you fetch ........ from upstairs for me - your legs are younger than mine"
