There is an obvious joke there along the lines of he is not the only Clown to be honoured in the NY's Honour's List this year.

However I'm loving that Grayson Perry has received an award. I admire him so much, so eloquent, interesting and hugely talented. #imafan

Why did only 4 of the Lionesses get awards? Did the others not play well enough? Oh I do hope it comes out that they said "No thank you".

I think this would have been the perfect opportunity to completely overhaul the honours system. I have absolutely no problem with ordinary people being recognised for extraordinary things, but there could be a separate system for sports people, for instance. There's an awful lot of cronyism involved in the current system.
And yes, volver, why only some Lionesses? I didn't get that either.

Re the Lionesses, when queried at a press conference the chairman of the sports honours committee said there was a danger of "carpet bombing" the entire squad thus rewarding someone who may have been on the pitch for only 5 minutes. Instead they have tried to reward excellence & extraordinary achievement. Apparently.
(Sorry have not yet mastered copying quotes or giving links. Will try harder.😬)

The chairwoman of a very small local charity I support has been awarded a BEM. We're all so pleased for her and for us in a way. It's a recognition and validation for all that this little charity does day in and day out. It's a massive psychological boost.

Only if you believe a British EMPIRE medal is worth anything given the connotations of "empire" and the fact that Empire is long gone .
The only validation you need surely is from the people you work for, not from those who think they are your superiors .

For once I agree with Volver.
I admire the ones that turn them down more than the ones that get them but we never get to hear of most of them.
Also, so many deserving people who go about doing good quietly are never honoured. It's time the whole thing was shelved and Charles had the ideal opportunity. So it goes on the divine right of Kings to award people honours that many others do not believe deserve them or the ones that do don't get them.
You are so right paddyann the validation from the people you work for or with is all you need.

I wish they’d do away with the BEM and OBE, or at least rename them. Why not Order of Merit or similar?
