Hello smile
We haven’t had a Night Owls thread for ages, so I thought I’d start one.
I know that there are quite a few of us about in the wee small hours, and it can be a lonely time.
So here it is.
I look forward to chatting in the nights and weeks to come x

Hoping Owls are sleeping, but thought I'd leave a message in case anyone else is whiling away the early morning hours reading GN threads. It's like reading a magazine to me and keeps me quietly occupied reading about other people's lives.

Hello Ginny42 and others night owl reporting in with too many whattifferies going on

Georgesgran Tue 14-Feb-23 04:21:27

Toilet break gets me up around now - gone back to bed, but feel quite wide awake.

I ‘ve got the tv guy coming at 10 so I’m having to tidy up the rooms he’s got to go in. I fell asleep yesterday at @ 4 and slept through till now, apart from a couple of trips to the loo. I even slept through quiz night on BBC. I have a vague recollection of shouting out one of the answers on Mastermind but that’s it! Even the dog slept through. My sleep pattern is completely bonkers but I need more sleep than I used to these days. My relaxation tapes don’t seem to be helping me to sleep any more. But I think that’s because I’m having the occasional drink of caffeinated coffee. Hopefully, in a few hours, I’ll have a working tv in each room and catchup tv again. I’m quite excited.

I'm now awake for the second time. I wonder sometimes if I'm hungry in the night as I woke up had a drink, some toast and tomatoes. did a crossword, fell sound asleep and just woke up again.

Great that you'll have your TVs working again today MayBee70, I don't watch much on TV at the moment, although there's a fabulous series of documentaries on Netflix about famous artists and I'm enjoying that.

Time for a cuppa. xx

I never used to eat in the evening but I feel hungry in the night. Was it Horlicks that was advertised as ‘ the food drink of the night’? And yet, when I was doing the 16: 8 diet I wasn’t hungry. Then again I was just watching catchup tv in the evening at that time and I’m now staying up decluttering ( when I’m not sleeping for 12 hours at a stretch that is. I’m dog sitting at my daughters next week, though, so I might get back into a routine then ( although what that routine will be is open to question!). I’m not there yet, tv wise. He’s just coming out to advise me today but will, hopefully sort out my catchup tv. I think my current dog is a problem. The previous one slept through the night but this one wakes up for a wee quite often. Even though she’ll go for hours during the day. It might just be a habit with her but I can’t ignore her in case she really does need to go out. She’s only had one accident since she’s been house trained and that was when I ignored her because I thought she was attention seeking ( she is a bit of a diva).

Morning all. It's windy here at the minute, I love lying in bed listening to it, although the dog has me up and out of it none stop for a week as she has colitis and the meds the vet gave me aren't working as fast as I'd hoped.
Hope the house clearing is getting there Ginny
I'm going to try to get another hour, hope you are all are having a lovely sleep.

Ginny42 Wed 22-Feb-23 05:26:35

Awake a couple of hours now and wondered if there were other owls awake, although it's a good sign that the usual Owls are sleeping. There is a limit to how much dreadful news I can read, so I come to GN to read the threads offering compassion, support and humour.

Still busy clearing my ex's house in preparation for sale. I'm up to getting quotes from decorators, so not too much longer.

The weather in Cheshire has been lovely the past few days. The snowdrops and daffodils are out in the woods and the hazels are heavy with catkins. I shall walk there before tackling today's tasks.

Ginny42 Thu 23-Feb-23 05:49:03

Good morning Owls. It's kind of comforting that others are managing to sleep whilst I'm awake. I'm not awake because I'm upset or worried, unless I count when I reached out to put my mug on the bedside table and missed, spilling tea all over my cream carpet. I ran to the kitchen for a cloth and cleaner (I do mean ran) and it doesn't seem to have stained.

It's painting club this morning, so I hope I stay awake and then the hairdresser, so I shall have lunch in a very nice cafe nearby.

I haven’t posted here for a while as for some reason I have been sleeping a good 7 hours. If I wake for the bathroom ,I go straight back to sleep, which wasn’t the case before. I can’t think why this change but very grateful for it. Have a restful day everyone.

Kim19 Thu 23-Feb-23 06:32:57

Please to hear this Mrs K. Funny how we can't always a count for radical changes in our bodily functions but lovely to hear when it's a positive one. Long may it continue for you. 👍

Ginny42 Sun 05-Mar-23 05:19:56

Any Owls awake? If so hope you're not awake with discomfort or feeling upset. This sleep pattern seems to have become a habit for me. I read that the temperature was going to plummet and left the heating on and woke up too hot.

MrsKen33 Sun 05-Mar-23 05:22:17

It didn’t last long. Awake just after three this morning and still awake.

Ginny42 Thu 09-Mar-23 03:56:07

Awake at 3.00 and got up to see whether there was snow. No snow here in north Cheshire at the moment. I love to see it, but it means I won't have to clear the car to go to art group this morning.

Ginny42 Sat 11-Mar-23 03:25:47

Any owls out there? I regularly hear a real owl in the woods nearby but not tonight. The foxes have been around making their eerie call though. I don't like that. The first time I heard them here I panicked as I'd never heard a noise like it before.

I peeped to see whether is was white outside but yesterday's snow melted in the bright sunshine. Off to make a cuppa and toast.

Doodle Sat 11-Mar-23 04:45:54

Hello Ginny I’m up. Despite not living near woods we have a fox too. Like you I hate the sound they make. I thought it was an animal being tortured.

Fanny I see you’re back on the the night duty thread. Can’t think how I’ve missed it before as we are usually up around 2.30 am with DHs RLS. Just for a change tonight we slept till 4. Not up with RLS now but nausea instead. 😥. Can’t win can you.

Grammaretto Sat 11-Mar-23 04:49:22

Hello night owls. I hope you are back asleep now. All quiet here but I sometimes hear a tawny owl.

MrsKen33 Sat 11-Mar-23 04:52:42

Well I’ve given up. I woke at half one and have been awake since. Given up trying so read a bit and now on here. Possible sleep after lunch. No point in worrying about it it just makes it worse

Hope everyone else had a better night .

Doodle Sat 11-Mar-23 04:53:19

Hello Grammaretto. We’re still up. DH is having a shortbread biscuit to try and overcome the feeling of nausea.
Have you got any snow where you are?

Doodle Sat 11-Mar-23 04:55:02

Hello MrsKen. It’s annoying when you’re laying there wide awake when you just want to sleep. It’s easier to get up and read or something. I often do that.

MrsKen33 Sat 11-Mar-23 05:00:01

Thanks Doodle Trouble is if I get up it disturbs Mr K and then it’s tea and biscuits and solitaire on the iPad. All sorts

Doodle Sat 11-Mar-23 05:12:46

We’re having tea and biscuits 🤣

Allsorts Sat 11-Mar-23 05:18:56

Good morning everyone, just couldn't sleep. been snowed in for three days and talking to the walls. I have my mind permanently turning over as I need to move from my too big home but too nervous as there isn't family to help, neighbours I knew most of them have died now so I just stay because I know the area.
Going to try to sleep for an hour thinking of a nice holiday in the sun.

Kim19 Sat 11-Mar-23 05:24:57

Hello all! when sleep evades I often turn to gentle music and it sometimes lulls me back into the land of nod. However I don't really mind being awake as long as I'm comfy and cosy. Just had a look through the window. Cars frosty white but no more snow. Hallelujah! Off to have my daily attempt at wordle now. Cheers!

Grammaretto Sat 11-Mar-23 05:36:04

I hope the tea and biscuits help Doodle
If I wake early I usually catch up later ongrin
Sorry about your quandary Allsorts
Not good when your night thoughts take over
I think I will try to get another half hour before I venture downstairs to the freezing kitchen to make a cuppa.
Would a teasmaid help?
